【発明の詳細な説明】
〔産業上の利用分野〕
本発明は印字ヘッドに対してプラテンを接近・離間する
方向に移動させるプラテン位置調整機構によりヘッドギ
ャップを設定するために、用紙の厚さを測定する用紙厚
さ測定機構を具備したプリンタの用紙厚さ検出方法に関
する。

プラテン．に対向してその軸方向にキャリッジとともに
往復運動するワイヤドット方式の印字ヘンドにより印字
を行うプリンタにおいては、ブラテン上の用紙表面から
印字ヘットの先端までの距離（以下ヘンドギャノプとす
る。）が適正に保たれていないと、その距離の離れすぎ
による印字品質の低下や、接近のしすぎによる印字ヘッ
ドのワイヤ折れやインクリボンからの不要なインク付着
によるキャリソジのスペース動作不良等を招くことにな
り、これらを回避するためには常に適正なヘッドギャッ
プを保つことが必要となる。
往復運動するワイヤドット方式の印字ヘンドにより印字
を行うプリンタにおいては、ブラテン上の用紙表面から
印字ヘットの先端までの距離（以下ヘンドギャノプとす
る。）が適正に保たれていないと、その距離の離れすぎ
による印字品質の低下や、接近のしすぎによる印字ヘッ
ドのワイヤ折れやインクリボンからの不要なインク付着
によるキャリソジのスペース動作不良等を招くことにな
り、これらを回避するためには常に適正なヘッドギャッ
プを保つことが必要となる。
そのため、オペレータは用紙を装着のつど、用紙の表面
から印字ヘッドの先端までの距離が適正な値となるよう
操作または、確認をしなければならず非常に不便であっ
た。

Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 １、用紙を支持するプラテンと、 該プラテンに沿って平行に往復移動しつつ印字を行う印
字ヘッドと、 用紙の送りを行う用紙給送機構と、 プラテン上の用紙表面から印字ヘッドの先端までの距離
を調整するヘッドギャップ調整機構と、装着された用紙
の紙厚を測定する用紙厚さ測定機構とを有するプリンタ
の用紙厚さ検出方法において、 当該プリンタの使用対象となる用紙のうち最も薄いもの
の厚さの１／２を判定値として予め定めておき、 装着された用紙の厚さを２点において測定し、その２点
の測定結果の差の絶対値と前記判定値とを比較し、 その絶対値が前記判定値と同等以下の場合は測定値の平
均値を用紙の厚さとして決定し、 その絶対値が判定値と同等以下でない場合は、装着され
た用紙の厚さを前記２点とはさらに異なる２点において
再測定し、 その再測定した２点の測定結果の差の絶対値と前記判定
値とを比較し、 その差が判定値と同等以下の場合は再測定値の平均値を
用紙の厚さとして決定することを特徴とするプリンタの
用紙厚さ検出方法。
