Conventional resistors of this type have a bimetal exposed on the outside of the resistor, and the reaction is affected not only by the heat generated by the resistor itself, but also by the heat received from the surroundings, resulting in abnormal detection. There were cases where the circuit was cut off.

This idea includes a resistance element on the outer periphery of an insulating cylindrical core with a hollow hole, a cap-shaped upper terminal at the upper end of the core, and several ring-like legs at the lower end. A vertical annular lower terminal is fitted, and a lead wire that passes through the hollow hole of the core and extends downward from the lower terminal is connected to the back side of the upper terminal.
The reason is that a temperature sensing element is interposed in the part of the lead wire located inside the hollow hole.

To explain this idea in detail, as shown in the cross-sectional view of Fig. 1, the core body 1 is formed into a cylindrical shape such as a cylinder or square cylinder made of an insulating material, and is hollow with both upper and lower ends open. A resistance element 3 made of a resistance wire or other element is wound around the outer peripheral surface of a core body 1 having a hole 2. Further, upper and lower terminals 4 and 5 are connected to the resistor element 3 and attached to both ends of the core body 1, respectively.
The upper terminal 4 is formed into a cap shape that covers the upper end opening, and a lead wire 6 is fixed to the center of the back surface of the upper terminal 4, and the lead wire 6 is inserted into the hollow hole 2 of the core body 1 and lowered. The lead wire 6 extends further downward from the end, and a temperature sensing element 7 such as a bimetal or a fuse is interposed in the intermediate portion of the lead wire 6 corresponding to the inside of the hollow hole 2. The lower terminal 5 is formed in an annular shape, and several leg pieces 10 each having a step 9 are protruded from the lower end of the ring part 8 at equal intervals along the circumference. Several claw pieces 11 are provided that protrude into the interior, and the core body 1 is supported by each claw piece 11. Further, each outer surface of the ring portion 8 of the upper terminal 4, the resistive element 3, and the lower terminal 5 is coated with an insulating protective layer 12 coated with an insulating material such as a nonflammable silicone paint.

The temperature-compensating resistor according to this invention has a core provided with a resistance element formed into a cylindrical shape, and a lead wire is passed through the hollow hole of the core to the back side of the upper terminal placed over the upper end of the core, and further downward. A temperature sensing element is interposed in the part of the lead wire located inside the hollow hole, and a lower terminal is attached to the lower end of the core, with the lead wire and temperature sensing element exposed on the outer surface. The temperature sensing element operates only by the heat generated by the resistor, and is not affected by heat from the outside because it is placed inside the hollow hole of the core. It operates by reliably detecting abnormalities. Furthermore, a lower terminal is provided at the lower end of the core with a ring shape and several leg pieces protruding around the circumference, and the lead wire is extended downward from approximately the center of the lower terminal, so that the resistor can be connected to a printed circuit board, etc. There are some that can be mounted upright, reducing the area they occupy and increasing the packaging density. Further, if the temperature sensing element is a fuse, it is irreversible, but if a reversible element such as a bimetal is used, it can be used again.
