(Prior Art and its Problems) Generally, the resolution of an ultrasound microscope increases as the wavelength of ultrasound in a propagation medium becomes shorter, so it is desirable to use a medium with a low sound velocity. Therefore, ultrasonic microscopes using liquid gas as a medium with low sound speed have been developed. In particular, liquid helium 4 He
Since the speed of sound becomes extremely small at temperatures below 1K,
It is an indispensable medium when seeking submicron resolution, and has already been developed by Stanford University as a liquid medium.

ACOUSTIC MICROSCOPY. IEEE Trans.
Sonics and Ultrasonics 1985 pp 139-151). Temperatures below 1K are achieved by diffusing 3He into liquid 4He , but the cooling capacity at this time is on the order of 10 3 erg/sec at a temperature of about 0.1K, and the , electrical and mechanical disturbances must be prevented as much as possible.

Due to these circumstances, the size of a cooling device (cryostat) that maintains a temperature below 1 K usually requires a height of about 2 m, even if it is small.
Therefore, in the case of an ultrasonic microscope, it is necessary to exchange the sample, so the sample is fixed to the tip of a nearly 2 m long rod (hereinafter referred to as the sample rod) and inserted from the top of the cryostat. Normally, this approximately 2 m sample rod is supported at the upper flange, and the gap between the ultrasonic transducer installed at the bottom of the cryostat and the observation surface of the sample is finely adjusted by moving the upper flange fulcrum using a micrometer, etc. I was getting used to it.

However, this type of system has the following problems. That is, since the fulcrum and the operating point are far apart, parasitic vibrations are likely to occur due to weak mechanical vibrations occurring outside or inside the device, and in order to suppress this, the sample rod must be made thicker. There are limits to this equipment as well. In order to suppress this parasitic vibration, it is possible to fix the sample stage near the ultrasonic transducer to the wall of the 4 He medium container with a diaphragm, etc., but this structure is difficult due to the need to exchange the sample. be. Therefore, in this case, it is inevitable that the insertion of a thick sample rod will have an adverse effect on the cooling system and that the quality of the ultrasonic image will deteriorate due to parasitic vibrations.

The liquid 4 He for the medium is at a temperature of 1K or less and is in a superfluid state, so it is easy to exchange heat with parts with a temperature of 1K or more due to film flow. In particular, since the sample stage is directly immersed in this 4 He, a complicated structure such as cutting the film flow is required.

The sample rod has a large temperature gradient of 300K on one side and 1K on the other within its 2m length, and the liquid level in the 4K 4He part inside the cryostat decreases over time, so the length of the sample rod is The length will change over time. Therefore, the micrometer must be readjusted more frequently, which is very inconvenient.

Now, if it were possible to break off the direct connection to the flange at the top of the cryostat while the sample was immersed in the 4 He medium, the problems mentioned above could be significantly resolved.

Therefore, the present invention was developed in view of these points, and it allows for rapid and stable setting of the sample at extremely low temperatures (below 1K), improving the cooling effect of the cryostat, and accurate scanning of the ultrasonic beam. An object of the present invention is to provide an ultrasonic microscope device that achieves this.

(Means for Solving the Problems) In order to achieve the above object, the present invention, as shown in the basic configuration diagram of FIG. A support stand 4 has a support rod 2 rising vertically from the bottom and fixedly supports an ultrasonic transducer (with lens) 3 that emits and detects a focused ultrasonic beam, and a support base 4 that acts on the support rod 2 and has a bottom surface 1a. a translator 5 that applies bending moments in two axial directions parallel to and orthogonal to each other;

It is provided between the body and expands and contracts in the axial direction by electrostriction, and the holding table 9 is attached to the bottom surface 1.

(Function) After the sample stand 8 holding the sample 7 is set on the holding stand 9, it is separated from the sample rod 11, and the optimum gap between it and the ultrasonic transducer 3 is adjusted by the expansion and contraction of the piezo element 10. . Then, by operating the translators 5 and 6, the ultrasonic transducer 3 is vibrated along two axes, that is, the ultrasonic beam is

(Example) Examples will be described in detail below with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 2 shows an embodiment of the present invention, and the same reference numerals as in FIG. 1 indicate the same elements. In this example, each translator has two
It consists of a set of magnets 13 and 15 and two sets of coils 14 and 16. Only one axis is shown here.
When a current is passed through the coil 14 in the magnetic field of the magnet 13,
A force is applied to the support rod 2 in a direction perpendicular to its axis, and the support rod 2 receives a moment and is displaced. On the other hand, due to this displacement, an electromotive force is generated in the coil 16 connected to the support rod 2 in the magnetic field of the magnet 15 in accordance with the displacement speed of the coil. Therefore, if the drive current of the coil 14 is controlled so that the electromotive force from the coil 16 is constant, linear scanning with respect to time is performed.

The sample 7 is fixed to a sample stand 8, and the sample stand 8 is locked to a rigid holding stand 9 by a locking member 17. This locking member may be one based on friction using a spring or the like, or may be fixed using a screw or the like. Alternatively, the device may be locked in a predetermined position by its own weight without using any particular locking member. The sample rod 11 is connected to the sample stage 8 only when replacing the sample, and is taken out from the upper flange. Alternatively, the sample stage 8 may be suspended by a thin wire and taken in and out. The housing 18 is a 4K liquid contained in the wall of the cryostat 19.

The liquid surface 22a of the medium 4 He22 tries to crawl up the inner wall of the housing 18 due to superfluidity, but is blocked by the heater 23 at the sample introduction part into the low temperature cell. During the measurement, the sample rod 11 is raised to a height where it is not immersed in the medium 4 He22. In this state, the bottom part 1 of the casing forms part of the wall of the cryogenic cell, and the ultrasonic transducer 3 and the sample 7 are connected by the piezo element 10 independently of the upper part of the cryostat.
Gap adjustment can be made.

(Effects of the invention) As explained above, according to the invention, the sample is separated from the sample rod and held by a stable holding member, so mechanical parasitic vibrations do not occur as in the conventional case. Furthermore, the gap between the sample and the ultrasonic transducer can be easily finely adjusted using an electrostrictive element or the like, and ultrasonic microscope images at extremely low temperatures of 1K or less can be obtained with good resolution. Additionally, the time required from changing the sample to operating the ultrasound microscope used to take two hours.
There is also the advantage that this time can be significantly shortened.
