FIG. 1 shows a document with a destination mark attached thereto in one embodiment of the present invention. This manuscript 1
A black band-shaped document identification mark 2 is printed on the front edge of the document at an interval of about 4 mm from the front edge. Following this, a destination mark 3, a start mark 4, and an end mark 5 are arranged in a line with a margin of about 1 cm as in the conventional case. Following these marks 3 to 5, necessary data such as specifying the scanning line density and specifying the number of documents to be transmitted with the same destination mark is written on the document 1 as optically distinguishable marks. There is. The remaining part of the manuscript 1 in which these data are written does not contain any information to be transmitted. That is, this document 1 is used as a read-only sheet (hereinafter referred to as an OMR sheet) of an OMR which is a destination document. Therefore, when setting originals in the feeding device, the operator places a predetermined number of originals (hereinafter referred to as transmission originals) having the same destination and containing information to be transmitted under the OMR sheet 1. If there is a document to be sent to another destination, an OMR sheet with that destination written thereon is interposed, and the document for transmission to that destination is placed below it.

Now, in FIG. 2 showing the basic configuration of the sending mechanism of the facsimile machine, it is assumed that the OMR sheet 1 is first fed from the automatic document feeder to this mechanism. This OMR sheet 1 is sequentially scanned by an optical system 6 starting from the front end where the original discrimination mark 2 is attached. Then, an optical signal corresponding to the density of the OMR sheet 1 is input to the photoelectric conversion circuit 7. The photoelectric conversion circuit 7 converts this optical signal into an electrical analog signal and then into a digital signal. The digital signal 8 obtained in this manner is once supplied to a document discriminating section 10 which is discriminating means. At the same time, the document discriminating section 10 outputs an encoding prohibition signal 12 to the encoding section 11.

The document discrimination section 10 compares the digital signal 8 obtained by scanning the document area to which the document discrimination mark 2 is attached with data stored in advance. Based on this result, it is determined that the fed document is OMR sheet 1. Based on this determination, the document discriminating section 10 subsequently outputs an encoding prohibition signal 12 to the encoding section 11. As a result, the digital signal 9 input to the encoding unit 11 maintains a state in which any encoding such as run-length encoding is prohibited. Therefore, in this case, a modem (modulator/demodulator, not shown)
No image information is supplied to the This is to prevent the receiving device from transmitting codes that should not be transmitted, such as a destination mark.

When all of the OMR sheets 1 have been read in this way, a document 20 for transmission is fed from an automatic document feeder (not shown). This document 20 is sequentially scanned by the optical system 6 from its front end. Accordingly, the photoelectric conversion circuit sends out a digital signal 8 corresponding to the density of the original to the original discriminating section 10. The manuscript discrimination unit 10 compares data,
It is determined that a document discrimination mark is not attached to the leading edge of the document 20. Based on this determination result, the encoding prohibition signal 12 that had been output to the encoding unit 23 is canceled, and the encoding unit 1
The digital signal 9 supplied to 1 is encoded.

On the other hand, the discrimination result of the document discrimination section 10 is also supplied to the main control section 13 as a document discrimination signal 14. The main control unit 13 is thereby switched to a mode for controlling the original for transmission. That is, the main control section 13 supplies the document feed control signal 16 to the mechanism control section 15,
The drive mechanism of the facsimile device is controlled in the document mode for transmission. In addition, the main control section 13 includes the document discriminating section 1
A discrimination control signal 17 is supplied to 0, and the document discrimination operation is stopped until the next document is fed. As a result, even if the destination mark and confusing image information are written on the document 20 for transmission, the destination determination unit 1
8 does not send the destination data 18 to the automatic destination sending control section 19.

When the automatic destination sending control unit 19 is newly supplied with the destination data 18, it rewrites the stored previous destination data with the new destination data. Therefore, in such a case where destination data is not newly supplied, the previously supplied destination data is preserved as is. Therefore, the facsimile signal encoded by the encoder 11 is transmitted to the destination specified by the OMR sheet 1.

In this way, image information about the original document 20 for transmission is transmitted. This operation is repeated as long as the document for transmission continues to be fed. and
When the OMR sheet 1 is fed, the document discrimination section 10 discriminates it and changes the destination of the next document for transmission. Since the number of originals to be transmitted is written in advance on the OMR sheet 1, the main control unit 13, which is both a counting means and a comparison means, uses a counter installed inside the main control unit 13 to calculate the number of documents to be transmitted. The number of original documents 20 is counted. Then, before the number of originals 20 for transmission reaches a predetermined number, other
When the document 20 for transmission ends, for example, when it becomes clear that the OMR sheet 1 has been fed, double feeding of the documents is detected, and the operator is notified of this by a notifying means (not shown). Further, as a result of the comparison in the main control unit 13, if the originals 20 for transmission have been fed even after the number of originals 20 for transmission has reached a predetermined number, a control signal 21 is sent to the automatic destination sending control unit 19. and suspends the automatic destination sending function. In addition, the original 20 for transmission
If no documents are fed within a certain period of time after reaching a predetermined number of sheets, the sending operation of the facsimile device is terminated.

Even if image information is transmitted after determining the type of each document, there is little risk that part of the image information will be transmitted because of this. In other words, in a normal document without markings for identification, image information that requires transmission is almost never written in the leading edge of the document. Therefore, even if it is confirmed that the original is for transmission as a result of scanning the leading edge of the original, it is possible to completely transmit the image information without having to start scanning again from the leading edge of the original. Furthermore, since the type of each document can be ascertained, there is no risk of erroneously transmitting information written on the OMR sheet that should not be transmitted, and double feeding can be easily detected.

Since the mark for identification is placed on the portion of the original including the leading edge, the mechanical identification of the original by the facsimile device is extremely quick. Further, the operator can easily determine the type of the stacked documents from the side surface of the stacked documents without having to turn over the stacked documents one by one.
