Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a blood pump which is small in size, is light in weight, is easy to be produced, lessens the generation of hemolysis, has good discharge efficiency and is usable safely over a long period of time. CONSTITUTION:A pedestal 5 formed to a circular conical shape having a base of a circular shape of 50 to 55mm in diameter is housed in a housing 1 and plural vanes 6 are formed of straight plates each having 20 to 50 deg. inlet angle on the circular conical surface of this pedestal 5. The pump is so formed that the ratio (L/H) between the length L along the curved surface of the vanes 6 and the height H parallel with the revolving shaft of a vane wheel at the front end of the radial direction of the vanes 6 disposed radially is 2.5 to 6.0.

[0004] This centrifugal blood pump does not require an expensive artificial valve or a synchronization device unlike pulsating blood pumps, so it can be made smaller, lighter, and lower in cost. Furthermore, unlike roller pump type blood pumps, the tubes do not break and can withstand continuous operation for long periods of time.

The blood pump shown in FIG. 6 has an impeller in the space of a housing 16, which is composed of a cylindrical pedestal 11 having a conical upper end surface and a plurality of blades 12 provided radially on the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical pedestal 11. When the shaft 14 is rotated by a motor (not shown), blood flows like a blood flow 13 in the figure.

However, this blood pump has a pedestal 11.
Since a vortex flow 15 is generated near the outer periphery of the blood cell and a very large stress is applied to the blood cells, there is a problem that the blood cells are destroyed and hemolysis occurs.

On the other hand, the blood pump shown in FIG.
7 and a plurality of plate-shaped blades 18 radially provided on the curved surface from a position a certain distance away from the apex of the pedestal 17. When the shaft 20 is rotated by a motor (not shown), blood flows out. It has a structure in which blood flows like the blood flow 21 in the figure. In this blood pump, the bottom surface of the pedestal 17 is a housing 1 that accommodates the pedestal 17.
Since it has an area that covers almost the entire inner bottom surface of 2,
The generation of vortices as in the blood pump shown in FIG. 6 is not observed.

However, even with this blood pump, the occurrence of hemolysis cannot be effectively suppressed to a satisfactory level, and the blood ejection efficiency is also not sufficient. Furthermore, since the blade 18 is a curved plate (as viewed from above), there is a problem in that it is difficult to manufacture when integrally molded with the pedestal 17. The present invention has been made to improve the above situation.

[Means for Solving the Problems] In order to achieve the above object, the present invention includes a plurality of blades that are erected approximately radially on the curved surface of a substantially conical pedestal from a position a certain distance away from the apex of the pedestal. In a centrifugal blood pump having an impeller in a housing, the bottom surface of the pedestal has a diameter of 30 to 5 mm, covering almost the entire inner bottom surface of the housing.
The plurality of blades are each formed of a straight plate having an entrance angle of 20 to 50 degrees, and have a length L along the curved surface of the blade.
and a height H parallel to the rotational axis of the impeller at the radial tips of the radially arranged blades (L/H) is 2.5 to 6.0. It's a pump.

In the blood pump of the present invention, it is preferable that the diameter (R; unit: mm) of the pedestal and the ratio (L/H) satisfy the following relationship. 30≦R≦55, 2.5≦L/H≦6, L/H≧0.133R-2.33, L/H≦0.133R+0.51.

[Operation] In the blood pump of the present invention, since the bottom surface of the conical pedestal covers almost the entire inner bottom surface of the housing, there is no vortex flow of blood, and therefore less stress is applied to the blood.

[0015] Furthermore, since the pedestal is approximately conical and a straight plate is erected as a blade on this curved surface, the blood flows smoothly, and the blood flowing inside the blood pump is free from stress caused by, for example, shearing force or vortices. There is less stress. Furthermore, since the bottom surface of the pedestal is formed into a substantially circular shape with a diameter of 30 to 55 mm, the occurrence of hemolysis is effectively suppressed.

Furthermore, in the present invention, as shown in FIG. 2, the angle between the tangent of the circle connecting the tips on the blood inflow side and the tangent of the blade on the blood inflow side, that is, the inlet angle β is 20 to 50 degrees. Therefore, the occurrence of hemolysis can be suppressed while maintaining good pump discharge efficiency.

As shown in FIG. 2, the impeller has a structure in which a plurality of blades 6 are erected in a substantially radial manner on the curved surface of a substantially conical pedestal 5, and each blade 6 is arranged from the apex of the pedestal 5. [0025] Although it is called plastic, it is not preferable to use acrylic resin, which is often used in conventional blood pumps, because it may crack. In the present invention, the bottom surface of the pedestal 5 is approximately circular with a diameter of 30 to 55 mm, and it covers almost the entire inner bottom surface of the housing 1.

When the bottom surface of the pedestal 5 is formed into a substantially circular shape within the above range, hemolysis can usually be suppressed to 0.1 to 100 g/100 liters or less, and sometimes even to 0.05 g/100 liters or less.

If the diameter of the bottom surface of the pedestal 5 is less than 30 mm, hemolysis tends to occur; for example, if the diameter is 26 mm, the diameter of the bottom surface is 0.109
Hemolysis occurs at around g/100 liters.

Further, it is not preferable that the diameter of the bottom surface of the pedestal 5 exceeds 55 mm because the amount of priming becomes large. The apex angle α of the approximately conical pedestal 5 is 120 to 160.
It is better to take it as a degree. This is because if the apex angle α is less than 120 degrees, the pump efficiency will be poor, and if it exceeds 160 degrees, unnecessary vortices will tend to occur when blood flows in.

Furthermore, as shown in FIG. 4, the blades 6 have a length L along the curved surface of the pedestal 5 and a height H parallel to the rotation axis of the impeller at the radial tips of the radially arranged blades. The ratio L/H must be in the range 2.5-6.

[0037] When this condition is satisfied, the blood pump of the present invention can maintain good discharge efficiency. On the other hand, when L/H is less than 2.5, the amount of hemolysis increases;

In a more preferable blade 6, the diameter (R; unit: mm) of the pedestal and the ratio (L/H) satisfy the following relationship. The vane 6 that satisfies the following relationship has good pump discharge efficiency and can prevent hemolysis. 30≦R≦55, 2.5≦L/H≦6, L/H≧0.133R-2.33, L/H≦0.133R+0.51.

Impeller material: Polycarbonate resin Outer diameter of pedestal: 36 mm Height of pedestal: 7.5 mm Inlet angle of vane: 20 degrees Vane length L Ratio of blade height H (L/H): 3.5 Number of blades: 6 The hemolysis test was conducted under the following conditions. (a) The differential pressure across the pump was kept constant at 100 mmHg. (b) The pump flow rate was measured every 1 liter/minute from 1 to 5 liters/minute. Note that this pump flow rate range is the range most often used as the amount of extracorporeal circulation by the cardiac assist device after open heart surgery. (c) During continuous operation for 5 hours, sampling was performed every 30 minutes, the amount of free hemoglobin in the plasma was measured by the SLS hemoglobin method, and the hemolysis index (I.H = Index
ofHemolysis) was calculated. In addition, I.
H represents the amount of change in free hemoglobin per 100 liters of pump discharge, and the allowable amount for biological applications is 0.1 g.
The following is considered. The results are shown in FIG.
