Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain monitoring with a control signal with excellent SNR by implementing a transmission/reception function of a control signal between opposite optical repeaters through a photocoupler. CONSTITUTION:A control signal component is extracted from a transmission signal by a band pass filter 2 in incoming and outgoing repeaters, amplified at an amplifier 3 and outputted to a buffer circuit 5 and a photocoupler drive circuit 7. A photocoupler 8 driven by the photocoupler drive circuit 7 outputs a control signal to a buffer circuit 5 of an opposite repeater. The control signal from the buffer circuit 5 is decoded by a decoding circuit 6 and used for various monitoring. Thus, the transmission and reception is implemented by using a signal with excellent SNR and the deterioration in the SNR due to the signal transmission/reception is reduced.

This conventional optical repeater monitoring circuit superimposes the control signal on the transmission signal and transmits it, so the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is poor. As a result, the SNR deteriorates further, and it is necessary to adjust the level diagram and DC level at the input point to the demodulation circuit so that they are the same for upstream and downstream control signals.

By doing this, in this embodiment, control signals are exchanged between the upstream and downstream repeaters by the photocoupler drive circuit 7 and the photocoupler 8, so the signals after identification and reproduction, that is, signals with a good SNR, are exchanged. This makes it possible to reduce SNR deterioration due to signal exchange. Further, there is no need to strictly adjust the level diagram and DC level of control signals for uplink and downlink lines.
