Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a deodorant for effectively eliminating unpleasant body odor such as armpit smell, foot smell and sweat smell and capable of eliminating even the smell component in sebum to which conventional deodorant has insufficient elimination effect. CONSTITUTION:The objective deodorant having excellent deodorizing effect and useful especially for the elimination of body odor can be produced by compounding (A) preferably 0.1-30wt.% of powder of an oil-absorbing polymer such as an acrylate copolymer composed of the structural unit of formula I and formula II (R is 1-30C straight or branched-chain alkyl or alkylene), a porous vinyl polymer produced by polymerizing and poromerizing one or more vinyl monomers having a solubility parameter of 7-10 and preferably capable of absorbing >=1.5 times weight of squalane, as essential component and preferably further (B) preferably 0.05-30wt.% of an insoluble metal oxide such as zinc oxide, magnesium oxide, calcium oxide, titanium oxide and alumina to further improve the deodorizing effect. The weight ratio of A:B is preferably 1:20 to 20:1.

[0003] Substances that cause unpleasant body odor include various substances such as lower fatty acids such as acetic acid, butyric acid, propionic acid, and isovaleric acid, and steroids. Methods for eliminating the odors of these substances include methods that utilize physical adsorption with porous materials such as activated carbon, sensory deodorization methods such as masking with fragrances, and methods that utilize metals such as zinc oxide, magnesium oxide, titanium oxide, and alumina. [Problems to be Solved by the Invention] However, physical deodorizing methods using activated carbon etc. do not have sufficient adsorption capacity for lower fatty acids, and there are also problems in terms of usability and sustainability.
Sensory deodorization such as masking with perfumes changes the quality of malodors using perfumes, but since the malodors themselves still exist, there is a limit to the deodorizing effect. On the other hand, metal oxides such as zinc oxide, magnesium oxide, titanium oxide, and alumina have a deodorizing effect on lower fatty acids, but these are not satisfactory. The reason for this is thought to be as follows. In other words, the skin surface contains a mixture of sebum and sweat.
When a metal oxide is applied here, the surface of the metal oxide easily absorbs water and therefore easily gets wet with sweat, making it difficult for the metal oxide to come into contact with sebum. Therefore, although the causative substances in sweat can be eliminated, the oil-soluble causative substances in sebum remain unerased, and the deodorizing effect as a whole is considered to be incomplete.

One that can absorb 5 times or more squalane is preferred. Here, the oil absorption is determined using squalane and is determined by JIS K510.
1 (1978). Specifically, 1 g of powder was placed in a 50 ml beaker, and squalane was added dropwise little by little while kneaded with a spatula. The end point is when the powder becomes completely paste-like, and it refers to the weight (g) of squalane required per 100 g of powder. These oil-absorbing polymers are preferably contained in the deodorant of the present invention in an amount of 0.1 to 30% by weight (hereinafter simply referred to as "%").

[0014] Deodorizing test method: Deodorizing agents having the compositions shown in each example were produced. Next, healthy men (20 to 40 years old) with strong armpit odor were selected through sensory evaluation by an expert panel, and the above deodorant was evaluated. The deodorant was directly applied by roll-on or spray to one axillary area once each day in the morning and once in the afternoon. The axillary area on the side to which no application was applied was used as a control. The evaluation was conducted by four expert panelists, and the results are shown in each example.
