In the conventional swirl-type intake port structure, air is supplied from the intake port passage, for example, from the top of the cylinder toward the cylindrical side, and this air flows along the circumferential surface of the cylinder. By flowing in, a flow with eddies (swirl state) is created.

However, in such a conventional swirl intake port structure, the number of revolutions at which the swirl rotates inside the cylinder (hereinafter referred to as "swirl ratio") from the start of intake until the piston reaches top dead center during compression. ) is fixed, which has the disadvantage that it is not possible to satisfy the desire to increase the swirl ratio when the engine rotates at low speeds or to decrease the swirl ratio when the engine rotates at high speeds.

Therefore, in the variable swirl intake port structure of the present invention, in order to supply air to the cylinder in a swirl in a diesel engine cylinder, there is a helical port that generates a swirl, and a helical port that is connected to the cylinder below the helical port. It is equipped with an intake port for increasing volumetric efficiency that increases the amount of air, and a control mechanism for controlling the amount of air supplied from the intake port to the cylinder. A peripheral wall surface for generating a swirl and a peripheral wall surface for reducing swirl generation that supplies a straight air flow are formed, and these peripheral wall surfaces provide a flow to the cylinder head below the position where the high swirl flow and the straight air flow diverge. It is characterized in that the intake port is open.

This port 2 is formed as a helical port. That is, as shown in FIGS. 4 to 12, a spiral high swirl generating peripheral wall surface 2a that generates a high swirl in the clockwise direction in FIG. 1 is formed on the upper part of the helical port 2. The cylinder 1 is designed to supply a high swirl air flow A to the cylinder 1. (See FIGS. 13 and 14) Further, at the lower part of the helical port 2, there is formed a peripheral wall surface 2b for reducing swirl generation and blowing the air flow B linearly toward the cylinder 1.

By supplying these air flows A and B to the cylinder 1, a small vortex, which is a flow that does not follow the circumferential direction of the center O of the cylinder 1 (reverse swirl), is not generated, but a swirl is generated along the circumferential direction of the center O. A stream of air is supplied to the cylinder 1.

At this time, the air flowing into the cylinder 1 is strongly blown along the circumference, resulting in an air flow with a large swirl ratio, and the opening 3a is located at the position where the high swirl flow A and the straight air flow B diverge. Since it is provided in the lower cylinder head 6, the flow of the high swirl flow A and the straight air flow B is not disturbed by the opening 3a.

In addition, the valve 4 is configured to be able to adjust its opening degree, and is normally biased by a spring (not shown) to be in a closed state, so that compressed air is supplied from the compressor to the intake port 3. When it is sent, it resists the biasing force of the spring and opens.

As detailed above, according to the variable swirl intake port structure of the present invention, in order to supply air to the cylinder in a swirl state, there is a helical port that generates swirl, and a helical port below the helical port that is connected to the cylinder. The simple structure in which the intake port is open has the advantage that the swirl ratio of air supplied to the cylinder can be appropriately controlled.
