(Prior art and its problems) Conventionally, in metal communication cables, in order to prevent water from penetrating into the cable, a water-absorbing and swelling material that absorbs water and becomes a gel is pressed and wrapped around the tape. It has been practiced to contain it or fill it around the core wire.

In recent years, similar measures have been used for optical fiber cables. For example, in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 58-207007, an optical fiber and an intervening string are arranged around the outer periphery of a tension member. A so-called twisted optical fiber cable whose outer side is covered with a press-wrap tape and a sheath is disclosed in which the press-wrap tape and the intervening string contain a water-absorbing and swelling substance. In such an optical fiber cable, the water-absorbing and swelling substance absorbs water that has entered through cracks in the sheath, swells and becomes a gel, and seals the voids within the cable, thereby effectively preventing water running.

However, when using optical fiber cables containing water-absorbing and swelling substances in cold regions,
When the temperature drops below freezing, the gel water held in the water-absorbing and swelling material freezes and expands in volume, applying lateral pressure to the optical fiber cable and causing microbending, which causes transmission loss.

(Objective of the Invention) The present invention has been made to eliminate the drawbacks of the above-mentioned prior art, and even when used in cold regions, by preventing gel water from freezing, transmission loss due to microbending of optical fibers can be reduced. To obtain a water running prevention type optical fiber cable capable of preventing water running inside the cable without causing water running.

(Structure and operation of the invention) The present invention is an anti-water running type optical fiber cable that includes an anti-water running material containing a water-absorbing and swelling substance and a surfactant protein. In other words, since the water running prevention type optical fiber cable of the present invention uses the above water running preventing material, water that has entered the cable is absorbed by the water-absorbing and swelling substance and retained as gel water, while at the same time absorbing surfactant proteins. Because it dissolves, the gel water does not freeze and its volume does not expand, so no microbending occurs in the optical fiber.

The surfactant protein 14 used in the present invention must exist stably when the optical fiber cable is in normal use, dissolve when water enters the cable, and exhibit a freezing point lowering effect. . Surfactant proteins exhibit a large freezing point-depressing effect even in small amounts; this is because the freezing-point-depressing effect of surface-active proteins is caused by supercooling of water, unlike the freezing point-depressing effect that is proportional to the solute molar concentration. it is conceivable that. This is presumed to be because surfactant proteins have the effect of inactivating ice crystal nuclei, and water does not start to turn into ice even when the temperature drops below freezing. For example, if this surfactant protein is made into an aqueous solution with a concentration of 0.03% by weight or more, this aqueous solution will not freeze even at a temperature of -5°C. In addition, the surfactant protein here refers to a protein in which a hydrophobic amino acid ester is added to a hydrophilic protein in the form of a peptide bond by the so-called enzyme modification method, in which a functional group is added to the protein using an enzyme as a lytic medium. A reaction product using succinylated αs 1 -casein and leucine n-dodecyl ester as an amino acid ester for a hydrophilic protein, and a reaction product using gelatin and leucine n-dodecyl ester as an amino acid ester for a hydrophilic protein (hereinafter referred to as "interfacial") active gelatin).

FIG. 2 shows an example of the pressure-wrapping tapes 4, 12, which contain water-absorbing and swelling substances 13 in the form of granules, powders, fibers, etc. and surface-active proteins 14 in a matrix 15 such as bulp fibers. It is. In order to increase the bonding strength of the tape, water may be added and heat and pressure applied, or thermoplastic resin powder such as polyethylene may be added and heat and pressure applied. Other examples of the pressure-wrapping tapes 4 and 12 include non-woven fabric-like water-absorbing and swelling materials (for example, long-fiber cellulose non-woven fabrics with carboxylmethylated cellulose) holding surface active proteins;
A film-like water-absorbing and swelling substance that holds surface-active proteins, or a fibrous water-absorbing and swelling substance (for example, a polyacrylate-based copolymer that is moderately cross-linked on the surface of acrylic fibers) etc.) is made into a sheet of non-woven fabric, which holds surface-active proteins. In particular, when tape strength is required, a reinforcing material 16 such as tissue, nonwoven fabric, woven fabric, mesh, etc. may be laminated on the presser winding tapes 4 and 12 described above. This is an example of tape laminated with reinforcing material.

An example of manufacturing the presser tape used in the present invention is shown below. First, a mixture of 35 g/m 2 of pulp, 14.5 g/m 2 of cross-linked sodium polyacrylate, 0.5 g/m 2 of surfactant gelatin, and 3 g/m 2 of polyethylene powder was accumulated on 17 g/m 2 of tissue paper using the air-lay method. After that, heat and pressurize. Next, 40 g/m 2 of long-fiber polyester nonwoven fabric was laminated on the side opposite to the tissue side to obtain a press-wound tape. 1 on this tape
Hold 1000cc of water per m 2 and heat at -5℃ in a constant temperature bath.
When the water was cooled to temperatures of -7°C and -10°C, the water did not freeze at either temperature. on the other hand,
When identical tapes were formed and similar experiments were performed, except without the addition of surfactant gelatin, the water froze at both temperatures.

In addition to the above-mentioned presser-wrapping tape, the intervening string 10 is also used as the water running prevention material. This intervening string 10 may be made into a string by twisting the above-mentioned pressure-wrapped tape into slits, or may be made into a string by forming a water-absorbing swelling substance and a surfactant protein together with other fibers or resin. etc. are used.

In addition, in the present invention, the water running prevention material is not necessarily limited to the presser-wrapped tape or the intervening string;
Any material that can be used for cables may be used as long as it contains a water-absorbing and swelling substance and a surface-active protein. Good too.

The waterproof optical fiber cable of the present invention includes:
If a crack or the like occurs in the sheath 6 for some reason,
When water from the outside world enters, the water-absorbing and swelling substance 13 contained in the water running prevention material quickly absorbs this water and swells into a gel, thereby preventing water running. At the same time as this water absorption, surfactant protein 1
4 is dissolved in water, the surfactant protein is dissolved in the gel water held by the water-absorbing and swelling substance 13, and even if the temperature drops below freezing, the gel water will not freeze and expand in volume. Therefore, when the anti-water running optical fiber cable of the present invention is used in a cold region, the gel water retained in the water-absorbing and swelling material will not freeze even if the temperature drops after absorbing water, and it will not absorb light. There is no need to worry about transmission loss caused by micro-pending in the fiber.

Although the explanation has been given using a unit-type optical fiber cable as an example, the present invention is not limited to this, and can be applied to spacer-type optical fiber cables, twisted-type optical fiber cables, optical fiber cords, and cord-stranded cables. (Effects of the Invention) As described above, the anti-water running optical fiber cable of the present invention contains an anti-water running material containing a water-absorbing swelling substance and a surfactant protein, so that water that enters through cracks in the sheath, etc. , water is quickly absorbed by the water-absorbing and swelling substance, and the water-absorbing and swelling substance swells and becomes a gel, thereby preventing water running. In addition, since surfactant proteins are dissolved in the gel water that is absorbed and retained by the water-absorbing and swelling substance, even if the temperature drops below freezing after absorbing water, it will not freeze and expand in volume. Therefore, the anti-water running optical fiber cable of the present invention can effectively prevent water running, and even when used in cold regions, it can prevent various problems such as microbending of the optical fiber due to freezing of intruding water. It is extremely useful because it can be used without any trouble.
