四サイクルエンジンは、シリンダーヘツドにカ
ムシヤフトを軸架してクランクシヤフトに連動さ
せて回転させ、カムシヤフトのカムの回転によつ
て吸気弁及び排気弁をバネに抗して押下げて開く
ようにしている。カムシヤフトは軽量化のために
芯に合せて芯孔を切削加工して設けているが、多
気筒でカムシヤフトが長くなると、芯孔の切削加
工が面倒で高価につく。このため、鋳鉄で鋳造す
るカムシヤフトの芯に合せて鋼管の中子を配置し
て鋳込むことにより、鋼管の芯孔を設けるように
したものがある。例えば実公昭50−38648号公報
参照。このようにすれば、芯孔の切削加工が省け
て安価にできる。ところが、鋳造の際湯口の位置
によつて、カムシヤフトの冷える早さが異なり、
熱変形してカムシヤフトが曲がつてできる不都合
があり、カムシヤフトの切削仕上げによる切削代
を多くしておかなければならず不経済である。

エンジンのカムシヤフトを得ることを目的とす

の湯口方向にして鋳込まれているので、鋳鉄湯の
冷える早さが異なる上下方向に、中子管の剛性の
高い長径方向が向けられていて、鋳鉄湯の冷え早
さの違いによるカムシヤフトの曲がりを防ぐこと
ができる。このため、カムシヤフトの切削仕上代
を少なくできて、安価になる。又、中子管は、両
端部が細径円形の断面にしてあるので、鋳型への
セツトが容易で、鋳鉄湯との結合不足で抜けてく
ることもない。
