The present invention relates to a surface-treated steel sheet for containers used as a material for cans, general containers, etc. In recent years, can-making methods by welding (for example, Sudronik welding method) or can-making methods by drawing (for example, DI processing method) have diversified and are showing remarkable progress. In addition, there is a demand for inexpensive can-making materials (container materials) that have excellent performance and are compatible with these can-making methods. In order to meet these requirements, it is necessary to have excellent weldability and drawing and ironing workability (corrosion resistance against can making tools), as well as the performance required for container materials, namely corrosion resistance, paint adhesion, and corrosion resistance after painting. It must be a combination of the following. Conventionally, tinplate and electrochromic acid treated steel sheets (TFS) have been widely used as materials for containers.
However, there is still room for improvement in terms of price, weldability, corrosion resistance, moldability, and coating performance of the material for making cans using the new method. That is, when tinplate material is welded, Fe in the base material diffuses into the molten metal to form an Fe-Sn alloy, and the surface of this alloy is significantly oxidized. For this reason, the welded portion and the heat-affected zone in its vicinity turn black, impairing its appearance and deteriorating its corrosion resistance and paintability. Furthermore, in the can manufacturing method using drawing forming, for example, in manufacturing DID cans, the adhesion of paint after can manufacturing is not necessarily satisfactory. On the other hand, electrolytic chromic acid treated steel sheets (TFS) are widely used and are superior in terms of economy and cost. However, TFS is composed of a chromate film consisting of metallic chromium and chromium oxide mainly composed of hydrated chromium oxide. Therefore,
As is conventionally known, these metallic chromium and chromate coatings are metals or oxides that are difficult to weld, and therefore, in the case of can manufacturing by welding, there is a drawback that the strength of the welded portion is often insufficient. Therefore, when using TFS as a material for welded cans,
A commonly used method has been to mechanically grind and remove the TFS surface corresponding to the welded part to manufacture welded cans. However, in this method, TFS has a metal Cr layer of about 70 to 150 mg/ m2 per side and about 10 to
Since it is generally formed with a chromate film layer of 30mg/ m2 , it is difficult to grind and remove it, and the ground chromium oxide, metal chromium, iron powder, etc. are picked up near the welding part, and the can is damaged. This may cause problems such as staining the inside and outside surfaces.
There are also many problems with the method of grinding and removing TFS surfaces. In addition, when this electrolytic chromic acid treated steel sheet is subjected to drawing processing, for example DI processing, some of the metal Cr is fused to the tool due to friction with the tool, resulting in linear formation in the subsequent product. It has disadvantages such as scratching, galling, and deterioration of appearance corrosion resistance. This invention was made in order to improve the above-mentioned drawbacks of conventional container materials, and provides an inexpensive steel sheet for containers that can be made by welding or drawing, and has excellent corrosion resistance and painting performance. This is what we are trying to provide. The gist is that Sn-Zn alloy plating containing 1 to 30% Zn is applied to the surface of the steel plate at a rate of 50 to 3000 mg/m 2 per side, and on top of this, a chromate coating is applied at a rate of 2 to 30 mg/m 2 per side in terms of Cr.
This is a steel sheet for containers that has undergone surface treatment. Hereinafter, the surface-treated steel sheet for containers of the present invention will be explained in detail. A steel plate manufactured as a surface treatment original plate is coated with Sn-Zn alloy plating as a lower coating layer.
Sn-Zn alloy plating has a corrosion-resistant effect that prevents corrosion of the pinhole area and significantly suppresses the elution of Fe even from acidic foods with low pH. The effect is influenced by the composition of the Sn-Zn plating alloy and the amount of plating deposited. When the Zn content in the Sn-Zn alloy is low (less than 1%), it has corrosion resistance comparable to that of tinplate, and black discoloration occurs in the weld zone and weld heat-affected zone during welded can making, resulting in poor corrosion resistance and paintability. deteriorates. Also
Sn-Zn alloy plating with a Zn content of over 30% causes paint film swelling equal to or greater than that of tinplate materials due to corrosive aqueous solution penetrating through the paint film after painting.
That is, Sn--Zn alloy plating containing 1 to 30% Zn has excellent corrosion resistance, appearance during welded can manufacturing, and coating performance. Similarly, in order to obtain these effects satisfactorily, the amount of Sn-Zn alloy plating should be regulated to 50 to 3000 mg/ m2 per side, and if the amount is less than 50 mg/ m2 , pinholes may occur. If the amount exceeds 3000 mg/m 2 , the corrosion resistance effect reaches saturation, resulting in high costs. In this way, Sn-Zn has excellent corrosion resistance.
The plating bath for alloy plating metal is not particularly limited, but generally a mixed bath of Sn salt and cyanide compound is used, and furthermore, due to the problem of waste water treatment of the bath, borofluoride bath, pyrophosphate bath, A mixed bath of a phenolsulfonic acid (ferrostane-based) Sn bath and a zinc sulfate-based bath may be used. Furthermore, the present invention provides Sn of the lower coating layer as described above.
- Apply chromate coating to the Zn composite plating layer. Sn
- The Zn alloy plating layer can be said to have an excellent anodic corrosion protection effect due to Zn, but if the plating layer is relatively thin, pinholes will occur, deteriorating the corrosion resistance and significantly shortening the product life. The chromate coating layer prevents the progress of corrosion generated from such pinholes, and also prevents the elution of the Sn-Zn alloy plating, further improving the corrosion resistance of the plating layer, and at the same time imparting coating performance. Chromate coating is composed of chromium oxide or metallic chromium mainly composed of hydrated chromium oxide, and a chromium oxide coating mainly composed of hydrated chromium oxide formed on its surface. Must be between 2 and 30 mg/ m2 . If the amount of chromate coating is less than 2 mg/m 2 , the effect of improving the corrosion resistance and coating performance of the alloy plating layer cannot be obtained. When the amount of chromate coating exceeds 30 mg/m 2 , the effects of improving corrosion resistance and coating performance become saturated, and the following problems occur in terms of performance.
In the case of can making methods by welding, weld nuggets are not sufficiently uniformly generated during electric resistance welding.
The occurrence of "splashing" is also significant, making it impossible to obtain the required welding strength. In addition, in the case of a can manufacturing method using drawing, when the amount of chromate coating increases, a phenomenon sometimes occurs in which part of the chromate coating peels off during drawing and ironing, resulting in deterioration of its corrosion resistance. The chromate film is preferably formed under the following conditions. Chromate treatment is performed by adding anion (SO 4 -2 , F-, etc.) is used. In particular, the addition of anions can eliminate pinholes in the Sn-Zn alloy layer by depositing a metallic chromium layer by cathodic electrolytic treatment in a chromate treatment bath and by selecting an appropriate current density. Further improves sealing and corrosion resistance. However, the addition of anions produces a large metallic chromium layer that has a negative effect on weldability or galling resistance, so chromate treatment conditions should be selected so that the amount of metallic chromium layer is 15 mg/ m2 or less. This is desirable. The concentration of the chromate treatment bath in this case is 10~
150g/is appropriate. A concentration of less than 10 g/l is unfavorable in terms of stability and aging properties of the treatment bath. Moreover, if the concentration exceeds 150 g/l, the effect of improving the corrosion resistance etc. is saturated, and a large amount of the processing bath is taken out by the glazed plate, which is uneconomical. The chromate treatment is also carried out by cathodic treatment or a combination of cathodic and anodic treatment. The current density and processing time are selected so as to obtain the required amount of coating, and it is usually preferred that the current density is 5 to 30 A/cm 2 and the processing time is 1 to 3 seconds. Sn− of the present invention plated on a steel plate as described above
Zn alloy plated steel sheet improves the reactivity with the chromate bath through the local battery action of the Sn and Zn in the plated alloy, forming a surface coating layer with extremely few pinholes, and improving corrosion resistance and paintability over tin plate. do. The plated steel sheet of the present invention may also be manufactured by the method of alloy plating followed by chromate treatment as described above, or by applying a flux after alloy plating to heat the plated steel sheet.
It may be manufactured by heating and melting at 240 to 350°C to form an alloy layer and then chromating it. In particular, when the alloy plating layer is melt-treated as in the latter case, the metallic luster is increased, the appearance is improved, and the corrosion resistance is improved by sealing pinholes. Next, examples of the present invention will be described. Table 1 shows a comparison of the test results for weldability, etc., which were subjected to plating and chromate coating under various conditions. Each performance was evaluated as follows. (1) Evaluation of corrosion resistance After immersing the sample in 0.5M tartaric acid at 25°C for 48 hours, the corrosion loss was measured. (2) Evaluation of weldability Steel plates were welded using a method (Sudronik type) in which electric resistance welding was performed by overlapping the wires under pressure while moving a steel wire (about 1.5 mmφ) as an electrode. Then, the weldability was evaluated within a range of current and pressure in which uniform nugget formation and sufficient welding strength were obtained. In addition, the appearance of the welded part was evaluated based on the degree of discoloration of the welded part and the vicinity of the welded part due to thermal effects during welding. (3) Performance evaluation after painting After painting the epoxy phenol paint to a thickness of 4.5 μm, it was immersed in an air-saturated aqueous solution containing 1.5% NaCl and 1.5% citric acid for 96 hours. Secondary paint adhesion was evaluated using a goblin test. In addition, a scratch was made on the painted surface, and the corrosion resistance of the paint was evaluated based on the corrosion state of the scratched portion after the above-mentioned immersion. (4) Corrosion resistance after DI processing After performing DI processing on a can with a diameter of 202φ, after degreasing and washing with water, immersion treatment in a chromium-phosphoric acid bath, washing with water and drying, and then spray painting with 4.5 μm thick epoxy-phenol paint. , 110 in 0.5% ammonium polysulfide solution
C. for 1 hour to investigate its corrosion resistance. Note that the evaluation symbols in Table 1 indicate the following contents. ◎...Remarkably good ○...Relatively good△...Slightly inferior ×Remarkably inferior The surface-treated steel sheets of the present invention shown in Test Nos. 1 to 4 deviated from the scope of the present invention and were tested as comparative materials.
Compared to Test No. 5 (Sn-Zn alloy plating area weight 45 mg/m 2 ), Test No. 6 (Zn content of Sn-Zn alloy plating 33%), and Test No. 7 (Sn plating), the container material It has the advantage of stably achieving excellent properties such as weldability, paintability, and corrosion resistance after painting, which are required for.
