力端子間に、複数のコンデンサ3,4と該コンデ
ンサ3,4に充電方向のダイオード5との直列回
路6を接続すると共に、前記コンデンサ3,4の
両端を放電方向のダイオード7,8を介して同一
方向に接続して、前記全波整流回路2の出力電圧
のピーク値より低い電圧で整流平滑する平滑回路
9を形成し、前記全波整流回路2と平滑回路9と
で構成される直流電源回路10と放電灯13との
間にインバータ12を介装し、該インバータ12
を介して放電灯13を点灯するようにした放電灯
点灯装置において、 オン時に前記全波整流回路2の出力電圧を平滑
回路9で平滑した高電圧がインバータ12側に印
加すると共に、オフ時に全波整流回路2の出力電
圧を前記複数のコンデンサ3,4で分割した低電
圧がインバータ12側に印加するように、前記平
滑回路9にスイツチ23を設け、インバータ12
を発振させて放電灯13のフイラメントを予熱し
た後に前記スイツチ23がオンするように、該ス
イツチ23を制御する制御回路24を設けたこと
