In FIG. 1, 1 is a glass rod, 2 is an optical fiber, and 3 is a temperature converter. The glass rod 1 and the optical fiber 2 constitute a sensor probe 4. Section A in FIG. 1 is an enlarged view of the tip of the glass rod 1. As shown in part A, a cavity 11 is provided near the tip of the glass rod 1, and a black body 12 is constructed by applying a black coating B to the inner surface of the cavity 11. Radiant light having a radiance corresponding to the temperature near the tip of the glass rod 1 is emitted by the black body 12, and is transmitted through the optical fiber 2 into the temperature converter 3, where it is converted into temperature. . Here, the cavity 1 is filled with a gas such as CO 2 which has good absorption of infrared rays. Further, the glass rod 1 and the optical fiber 2 are made of quartz glass in order to improve the transmission of infrared light. This is because radiation in the infrared region is used for low temperature measurements. Now, in general, metals have poor absorption of infrared light, and have the disadvantage that the tip of the sensor probe 25 as shown in Fig. 2 is difficult to warm up due to radiant heat transfer. As shown in FIG. 2, by sealing a gas with good infrared absorption around the black body 12, the sensor probe of the optical fiber thermometer has good responsiveness even at low temperatures by efficiently absorbing radiant heat.

It has become possible to measure the ambient temperature well.
