Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain the exchange of cooling fans without stopping the operation of a working electronic equipment by providing a control means which invalidates the alarm signal of the cooling fan for a prescribed time. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 4 is provided together with a heating body 3 consisting of plural heating elements, plural cooling fans 7-1 - 7-n, a power unit 1 which supplies the power to each cooling fan, the fan alarm detecting parts 101-1 - 101-n which detect the alarm signals sent from the cooling fans, and a control means 102 which invalidates the detected alarm signals for a prescribed time. I such a constitution, all fans 7-1 - 7-n can work continuously except the one that is under exchange. Thus the exchange of cooling fans is attained without stopping the operation of working equipment.

(Problem to be Solved by the Invention) However, in recent years, the number of systems that operate 24 hours a day has increased, and it has become impossible to stop the system at all. Therefore, it has become difficult to find time for regular maintenance. That is, in the past, the cooling fan could not be replaced without stopping the electronic device, so there was a problem that scheduled replacement of the cooling fan could not be performed. Conventionally, if a part of the cooling fan is replaced while the system is in operation, an alarm signal is generated due to the cooling fan's rotation stopping or decreasing, resulting in the system being stopped.

However, in the cooling fan replacement method for electronic devices, the cooling capacity required to cool the heating element is estimated at the design stage, and the rotation speed and number of fans required to cool the heating element are calculated. It has been decided. Therefore, when replacing the cooling fan while the fan is in operation, the problem remains that until the fan replacement is completed, the cooling capacity decreases, causing an increase in the temperature inside the device and causing malfunction of the device.

The illustrated device prevents an increase in internal temperature of an electronic device due to a decrease in cooling capacity when replacing a cooling fan in an operating state. For this reason, the number of rotations of other cooling fans is increased only when a cooling fan is replaced to increase the cooling capacity.

In a DC fan, increasing the applied voltage increases the current and therefore the amount of heat generated. This heat shortens the life of the fan, so it is undesirable to drive the fan at high voltage for a long period of time. In the present invention, high voltage drive within the rated voltage range is performed only when replacing the cooling fan.

Next, the operation of the above-mentioned apparatus will be explained using an example in which the cooling fan 7-1 is replaced. As explained in FIG. 1, the maintenance person presses down the control means 102-1 to disable the fan alarm detection signal and stop the power supply to the fan 7-1. Furthermore, the control means 102-1 controls the supply voltage level switching means 301 from the fans 7-2 to ? -n
to increase the supply voltage level.

The supply voltage level switching means 301 selects a voltage higher than the normal voltage from the voltage level output from the power supply device 1,
It operates to supply cooling fans 7-2 to 7-n.

(Effects of the Invention) As explained above, according to the cooling fan replacement method of the present invention, since the control means for disabling the alarm signal of the cooling fan at a predetermined time is provided, the operation of the electronic equipment in the operating state is stopped. This makes it possible to replace the cooling fan without having to do so. Therefore, maintenance of the cooling device can be performed even in a system that continues to operate 24 hours a day.
