In general, a shadow mask type color picture tube has an envelope typically made of an insulator, as shown in FIG. 1, consisting of a substantially rectangular panel 1, a funnel-shaped funnel 2, and a net 3. . For example, a striped phosphor screen 4 that emits red, green, and blue light is provided on the inner surface of the panel 1.
On the other hand, the net 3 is provided with so-called in-line electron guns 6 which are arranged in a line along the horizontal axis of the panel 1 and emit three electron beams 10 corresponding to red, green and blue. Further, a shadow mask 5 having a curved main surface with a large number of through holes is disposed close to and opposite to the screen 4. The peripheral part of the shadow mask 5 has a skirt part 8 that is bent according to the outer shape of the panel.
is supported and fixed by a mask frame 7 having an L-shaped cross section, and further, the mask frame 7 is locked by a pin (not shown) embedded in the inner wall of the panel 1 via a spring 9. In such a color picture tube, the three electron beams 10 emitted from the electron gun 6 are deflected by a deflection device (not shown) disposed outside near the funnel 2, and are deflected into a substantially rectangular shape. The colors are sorted so as to scan a rectangular area corresponding to the panel 1 and through the holes in the shadow mask 5, and the colors are projected onto the light-emitting striped phosphors of each color in the correct manner to reveal a color image. Due to its mechanism, the effective amount of electron beams passing through the holes in the shadow mask 5 is less than 1/3, and the remaining electron beams impinge on the shadow mask and are converted into thermal energy, sometimes heating the shadow mask up to about 80 degrees Celsius. . Shadow mask 5 generally has a thermal expansion coefficient of 1.2× at 0 to 100℃.
The mask frame 7 supporting the skirt portion 8 of the shadow mask 5 is made of a thin plate of 0.1 mm to 0.3 mm thick made of so-called cold-rolled steel whose main component is iron, which has a large temperature of 10 -5 /°C. It is also made of cold-rolled steel that has been subjected to blackening treatment and has a strong L-shaped cross section with a length of around 1 mm. Therefore, the heated shadow mask 5 easily undergoes thermal expansion, but since its periphery is in contact with the mask frame 7 which has been subjected to blackening treatment and has a large heat capacity, radiation and conduction cause the mask frame to expand from the periphery of the shadow mask. Heat moves to the area, and the temperature around the shadow mask becomes lower than the center. Therefore, a temperature difference occurs between the central portion and the peripheral portion of the shadow mask 5, resulting in a so-called doming phenomenon in which the central portion is relatively heated and expanded. As a result, the distance between the shadow mask 5 and the phosphor screen 4 changes, disturbing the accurate landing of the electron beam and causing deterioration of color purity. This phenomenon is particularly noticeable in the early stages of operation of a color picture tube. In addition, when a high-brightness image is partially projected on the image screen, and especially when this high-brightness image part is stopped for a certain period of time, an electron beam with a high electron flow density may be partially generated on the shadow mask. , causing a local doming phenomenon.

In order to prevent such a doming phenomenon in a color picture tube, a layer made of glass, for example, lead-borate glass, is formed on the main surface of the shadow mask 5 on the electron gun side. A proposal for suppressing the transmission of heat generated in the glass to the shadow mask 5 was made in Japanese Patent Application No. 148,843/1983 by the same applicant as the present invention.

For this lead-borate glass layer, before the panel 1 and the funnel 2 are sealed together, lead-borate glass dissolved in a butyl acetate alcohol solution containing several percent nitrocellulose is applied to the electron gun side of the shadow mask 5. After drying, this shadow mask 5 is installed inside the panel 1. After that, place panel 1 and funnel 2 on a predetermined frame, and
When the temperature is raised at a heating rate of °C/min and passed through a furnace with a maximum temperature of about 440° and a holding time of 35 minutes or more, vitrified lead-borate glass is formed on the electron gun side of the shadow mask 5. A layer can be formed. However, with this method, the shadow mask 5
When forming a glass layer on a glass layer, there are the following problems. Firstly, when the shadow mask 5 coated with liquefied lead borate glass is mounted inside the panel 1, the glass drips and adheres into the panel. Second, combine the panel and funnel 2 to 10
When heating at a heating rate of ℃/min, the binder such as acetic butyl alcohol containing nitrocellulose decomposes and dissipates, and then the temperature inside the furnace reaches 440℃.
When the maximum temperature is reached, the lead-borate glass begins to crystallize, but by the time the binder dissipates and the bond between the lead-borate glass and the shadow mask 5 begins, vibrations in the furnace cause the lead-borate glass to move away from the shadow mask 5. It separates and attaches to the funnel 2. These deposited lead-borate glasses are likely to crystallize at the deposited location due to the subsequent furnace temperature and become a cause of screen defects and voltage withstand defects after the color picture tube is completed.

A large number of holes are formed in the shadow mask of a color picture tube as shown in FIG. 1 by selectively etching it using an exposure method. Next, the main surface having a large number of through holes is press-molded into a curved shape, and the peripheral portion is press-molded into a skirt portion for supporting the main surface, thereby completing the prototype of the shadow mask. After such a shadow mask 5 is formed into a predetermined shape, a layer mainly made of glass, for example lead borate glass, is formed on the main surface which becomes a concave surface on the electron gun side when disposed close to and facing the screen 4. is formed. For this lead-borate glass layer, before the panel 1 and the funnel 2 are sealed together, lead-borate glass dissolved in a butyl acetate alcohol solution containing several percent nitrocellulose is applied to the electron gun side of the shadow mask 5. do.
Thereafter, the shadow mask 5 is heated to semi-melt the lead borate glass and temporarily fixed to the shadow mask 5. By the way, in general, one of the conditions for metal and glass to be effectively sealed is that the metal and glass should be compatible with each other, that is, they should get wet with each other, and as in the case of the present invention, lead borate Similar conditions are required when glass is temporarily fixed to the shadow mask 5, and the temperature that satisfies this condition is the softening temperature of the glass. Next, as a method for raising the temperature of the shadow mask 5 to the softening temperature of this glass, a furnace method using thermal power or electricity requires a huge amount of equipment, and it takes a long time for the shadow mask 5 to reach the required temperature, making it unsuitable for mass production. be.
Therefore, the inventor of the present invention focused on the fact that the material to be adhered to is a good conductor called the shadow mask 5, and as a result of various experiments, found that if a high frequency current is passed through the coil and the shadow mask 5 is placed inside this coil, the shadow mask 5
It was confirmed that since the shadow mask 5 is a good conductor, the shadow mask 5 can be heated to a high temperature in an extremely short time by the eddy current generated in the shadow mask 5 by electromagnetic induction. For example, a lead borate glass containing at least about 75% by weight of PbO and about 9% by weight of B 2 O 3 is coated on the electron gun side main surface of the shadow mask 5 made of cold rolled steel with a thickness of 0.18 mm. When heated in a coil connected to a high-frequency power supply with a transformer output of approximately 15 kVA and a working frequency of approximately 400 KHz, the temperature of the shadow mask 5 reaches the softening point of lead-borate glass.
It was found that the temperature reached 400°C within 5 seconds, and after 5 minutes, the lead-borate glass had become half-molten and had adhered to the shadow mask. Although the glass layer formed in this way is only temporarily attached, it is bonded to the shadow mask 5 through chemical bonding, so the adhesive strength is significantly improved compared to conventional binder bonding, making it extremely difficult to fall off during subsequent processes. can be reduced to

After applying the glass layer as described above and semi-melting it into a temporarily fixed state, the shadow mask 5 is mounted inside the panel 1. After that, the panel 1 and the funnel 2 are placed on a predetermined frame and passed through a heat treatment furnace with a maximum temperature of about 440° and a holding time of 35 minutes or more, so that the electron gun side of the shadow mask 5 is vitrified. A lead-borate glass layer can be formed. This lead-borate glass vitrifies at PbO weight percentages ranging from 44% to 93%, but is stable against crystallization.
It is 70-85%, and this range is suitable for mass production.
Furthermore, in general, when sealing metal and glass, it is necessary to prevent excessive strain from being applied to the glass. The compressive strength of glass is about 10 times the tensile strength, so it is better to have a slight compressive force applied to the glass after sealing. Preferably it is slightly larger. Generally, the thermal expansion coefficient of the shadow mask 5 made of cold rolled steel plate is approximately 1.2×
10 -5 /℃, but the weight percent of PbO is
The thermal expansion coefficient of 70-85% lead borate glass is 0.7
~1.2×10 -5 /°C, making it very suitable for sealing to a shadow mask made of cold rolled steel plate. By the way, in order to crystallize such lead borate glass, a maximum temperature of 400°C to 600°C and a furnace that can maintain it for more than 30 minutes are required. If it is crystallized in a sealing furnace at the same time as the sealing with the shadow mask 5,
It would be very advantageous industrially if the shadow mask structure including the frame 7 were crystallized at the same time in the stabilizing process. In order to achieve optimized crystallization under conventional heat treatment furnace conditions, ZnO and CuO
may be added to the lead borate glass. In this case, it becomes possible to crystallize at a lower temperature without significantly changing the coefficient of thermal expansion.

When the color picture tube formed and completed as described above is operated, the heat generated in the lead-borate glass that the electron beam strikes will be absorbed by the lead-borate glass, which has a thermal conductivity of 6 W/m・K. Since the temperature is about 1/8 of that of the shadow mask made of inter-rolled steel plate, the amount transmitted to the mask is small, and the temperature rise of the shadow mask can be effectively suppressed.
