(Field of Industrial Application) The present invention relates to a novel member for protective equipment and a method for manufacturing the same, and more specifically, it is lightweight and has excellent bullet resistance and cut resistance, and is suitable for use in helmets, shields, and bulletproof clothing. The present invention relates to a member suitable for use in protective equipment such as belly pads, shin pads, shoulder pads, etc., and a method for manufacturing the same. (Prior Art) Conventionally, protective equipment or its components for protecting the body from weapons such as bullets, knives, or fragments of explosives have been made of metal plates, ceramic plates, high-strength nylon fabrics, or para-aromatic materials. Polyamide (eg Du Pont Kevlar) fabrics or combinations thereof have been used. However, metals such as iron and aluminum alloys and ceramics
It has the disadvantage of being heavy and lacks maneuverability, and high-strength nylon fabrics have the disadvantage of being bulky due to the increased number of layers due to poor ballistic resistance. On the other hand, para-aromatic polyamide fiber fabrics have high strength and high impact resistance.
It can reduce the laminated weight compared to strong nylon, and is preferred as a material for bulletproof armor. However, although para-aromatic polyamide fabrics can provide bulletproof clothing that is flexible and comfortable to wear, and has good bulletproof performance, it is surprisingly easy to penetrate with Japanese blades, deba, ice picks, awls, etc. It has the disadvantage of being forgiving. Furthermore, although it does not allow bullets to penetrate, the fabric is flexible, so the amount of deformation toward the back side, that is, the human body side, is large, and it has the drawback that accidents such as rib fractures are likely to occur even if it does not result in death. Ta. On the other hand, in order to improve the above-mentioned drawbacks, protective equipment or members for protective equipment have been proposed, which are made by impregnating and hardening a thermosetting resin into a multi-layer lamination of high-strength nylon fabrics, para-aromatic polyamide fiber fabrics, etc. In this case, the fabric is filled and fixed with resin, so it is resistant to being punctured by a knife.
It is also possible to impart structural strength, making it useful for helmets and shields. However, it has the disadvantage that it is 30 to 40% heavier than a laminate made of woven fabric alone, and the amount of resin impregnated is 40%.
On the other hand, if it exceeds this level, bullets tend to penetrate more easily, so if the amount of resin impregnated is not sufficiently controlled to be uniform, there will be local variations in bulletproof performance. (Problems to be Solved by the Invention) The present inventors have solved the problems found in conventional protective equipment or members for protective equipment as described above, namely, fabrics such as high-strength nylon fabrics and para-aromatic polyamide fiber fabrics. Poor blade resistance and large deformation when hit by bullets in soft type protective equipment (components) made of
And hard protective equipment (members) such as metal plates, ceramic plates, or thermosetting resin-impregnated fabrics.
As a result of intensive research in order to provide a new protective equipment component that is lightweight and has good bullet resistance and cut resistance, the excessive weight of the fabric has been improved. When impregnating and curing a laminate with a thermosetting resin, even if the impregnation and curing with the resin is limited to only the surface layer of the laminate, the remaining fabrics can be bonded to each other on their entire surface to achieve a moderate level of hardening. By providing rigidity and suppressing the occurrence of displacement of the fabric structure such as misalignment, sufficient edge resistance can be obtained without impregnating and curing the entire laminate with resin, and also because of partial impregnation. Not only is it possible to reduce weight, but
Regarding ballistic performance, because there is a non-impregnated layer with moderate rigidity (in other words, moderate flexibility) mentioned above, there is a possibility that the amount of resin may be partially excessive as in the case of hard type resin-impregnated fabrics. We found that there was no problem such as the bullet penetration caused by bullets, and that the amount of deformation when hit was significantly reduced.Based on these findings, we conducted further studies and completed this research. . (Means for solving the problems) That is, the present invention first of all has a tensile strength of 20
It consists of a multi-layered structure of fabrics made of high-strength organic synthetic fibers of g/d or higher, and at least one of the outer layers, both the front and back, is impregnated and hardened with a thermosetting resin, and the remaining fabric is A protective equipment member characterized by being bonded to each other and substantially over the entire surface thereof with an adhesive, and secondly, a fabric made of high-strength organic synthetic fibers having a tensile strength of 20 g/d or more. A high-strength organic synthetic fiber fabric with a tensile strength of 20 g/d or more is impregnated with a thermosetting resin on either or both of the upper and lower sides of a plurality of sheets laminated with a film adhesive. This is a method for manufacturing a member for protective equipment, characterized by stacking prepregs and heating and pressurizing them to cure the prepregs and thermally bond them with a film adhesive. The high-strength organic synthetic fibers with a tensile strength of 20 g/d or more referred to in the present invention include para-aromatic polyamides conventionally used as materials for protective equipment (e.g., Kevlar manufactured by Du Pont, Teijin Ltd.). made
HM-50, etc.] and aromatic polyesters [e.g.
Preferred examples include ECONOL manufactured by Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd., and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fibers and the like can also be used. There are no particular restrictions on the composition of the woven fabrics using these high-strength organic synthetic fibers used in the present invention, but generally and preferably 150 to 2000 d, particularly 1000 d
A filament yarn of ~1500 d is used, which is made into a plain weave or a diagonal weave. In this case, it is desirable that the weaving density (fabric weight) be close to the critical density for each weave design. For example, for a 2x2 basket weave using 1500d thread, the weaving density (fabric weight) should be Density is 34 x 34 pieces/
If it is a plain weave using 1000d yarn, it will be about 31 x 31 threads/25mm (the weight of the fabric is about 280g/ m2 ).
g/ m2 ) is preferably used. There is a tendency for ballistic resistance to decrease as the driving density decreases. The protective equipment member of the present invention has a basic structure composed of multiple layers of high-strength organic synthetic fiber fabrics as described above, and the outer layer of the fabric is impregnated with a thermosetting resin.
The fabric is cured (hereinafter sometimes simply referred to as curing in such cases), and the remaining laminated fabric is bonded on its entire surface with an adhesive. The amount of lamination of high-strength organic synthetic fiber fabric varies depending on the use of the protective equipment (components), but for example,
If the purpose is to protect against 38 caliber or 45 caliber handguns, it is desirable that the total weight is in the range of 3500 to 5000 g/m 2 , and if it is in such a range, it will be difficult to pierce with a knife. It is also possible to provide sufficient resistance to. The extent to which the outer layer of this woven fabric laminate is hardened with thermosetting resin varies depending on the purpose of use of the protective equipment (member), but generally the weight of the woven fabric corresponds to 200 to 1000 g/ m2. The amount of the outer layer portion to be cured may be selected from this range depending on the above-mentioned purpose of use. The thermosetting resin used for curing the outer layer of the laminate includes epoxy resin, unsaturated polyester resin,
Suitable examples include thermosetting resins commonly used for laminates, such as vinyl ester resins and phenol resins. The amount of the thermosetting resin used (the amount of impregnation) is suitably in the range of 30 to 60% by weight based on the weight of the cured layer (total weight of the fabric and resin). When the amount of resin used is less than 30% by weight, there is a tendency for the blade resistance to become insufficient, while when it exceeds 60% by weight, the ballistic resistance decreases. The above-mentioned hardened layer of thermosetting resin is usually formed on either the front or back outer layer of the textile laminate (the side that would be hit by a weapon when used as a protective device), but in some cases it is formed on both the front and back. It is also possible to cause the formation of Further, the fabric to be cured with the thermosetting resin may be a single layer or a multilayer fabric, as long as it satisfies the weight range of the fabric to be cured as described above. However, in terms of the manufacturing process, a single layer generally has the advantage of being easier to operate. In the protective equipment member of the present invention, the portion other than the above-mentioned hardened layer has a structure in which woven fabrics are bonded together with an adhesive, thereby providing appropriate rigidity (in other words, appropriate flexibility). has been granted. in this case,
It is important that the fabric be joined to each other on substantially its entire surface, which not only gives uniform rigidity to the entire fabric, but also provides resistance when being hit by a bullet or being pierced by a knife. The occurrence of misalignment, etc. is suppressed, resulting in improved ballistic resistance and
Blade resistance is significantly improved. In addition, this rigidity imparting,
Furthermore, from the perspective of preventing misalignment, adhesives are applied not only to virtually the entire surface of the fabric, but also to a certain extent to penetrate into the threads that make up the fabric and make them stick together. It is preferable to do so. The adhesive may be thermoplastic (thermofusible) resin, thermosetting resin, or elastomer, but thermoplastic (thermofusible) Resin-based resins are preferred because they are easy to handle, and in particular, if a resin that plasticizes or melts at a temperature below the curing temperature of the thermosetting resin constituting the cured layer is used, the cure of the cured layer and the heat generated by the adhesive can be avoided. There is an advantage that adhesion and further thread sticking can be performed at the same time. Preferred adhesives from this point of view include polyethylene, polypropylene, and low-melting point copolymer polyester, and it is particularly desirable to use film-like materials of these adhesives since they can be easily bonded over the entire surface. The amount of adhesive used is 5 to 15% of the weight of the fabric (the weight of one layer of fabric to be laminated and bonded) in terms of solid content.
It is preferable to set it in the range of % by weight. If the amount of adhesive is less than 5% by weight, there is a risk that the bonding of the fabric, as well as the sticking and fixing of the threads that make up the fabric, will be insufficient, and the amount of deformation when hit by a bullet will increase. 15% by weight
If it exceeds this value, no further improvement in ballistic resistance or edge resistance will be observed, and this will simply result in an increase in weight, which is not preferable. There are various methods for manufacturing the protective equipment member of the present invention having such a configuration.
Considering the role of protective equipment in protecting lives and bodies from firearms and other deadly weapons, it is particularly important that protective equipment and, by extension, protective equipment components have a consistent quality. Furthermore, considering the ease of operation and ease of process control in the manufacturing process, we decided to use the method described above, in which prepreg is arranged on an alternate laminate of high-strength organic synthetic fiber fabric and film adhesive. The method of applying heat and pressure is exemplified as the most preferable method. In carrying out this method, the prepreg is preferably a high-strength organic synthetic fiber fabric having a weight that satisfies the above-mentioned range of weight of the cured layer fabric (200 to 1000 g/m 2 ). A material that has been impregnated with the above-mentioned thermosetting resin in accordance with a conventional method is used. This prepreg constitutes the hardened outer layer in the protective equipment member of the present invention, and by using such prepreg, for example, after forming a textile laminate, the outer layer can be impregnated with a thermosetting resin. Compared with the curing method, it is possible to make the distribution of the resin in the cured layer more uniform, and it is also easier to adjust the amount of resin impregnated. As the film adhesive used for forming the textile bonding layer, thermoplastic resin films such as the above-mentioned polyethylene film, polypropylene film, and low melting point copolymerized polyester film are most suitable; however, in some cases, epoxy resin films may also be used. May be used. It is particularly desirable that these film adhesives have a softening point or melting point lower than the curing temperature of the prepreg. In the method of the present invention, for example, high-strength organic synthetic fiber fabrics of appropriate weights and film-like adhesives as described above are alternately laminated, and on the upper surface of this laminate, or on both upper and lower surfaces as the case may be, prepregs, generally their total fabric weight is 3500~5000
g/m 2 and the weight ratio of the prepreg (cured layer) fabric is 200 to 1000 g/m 2 , and heat and press this using a heat press machine etc.
This is carried out by curing the prepreg and thermally bonding it with a film adhesive. Heat and pressure is applied at a temperature higher than the curing temperature of the prepreg (thermosetting resin) and the softening or melting temperature of the film adhesive, usually under a pressure of 1 to 30 kg/ cm2 .
This is done by holding for ~60 minutes. In this way, the protective equipment member of the present invention, which has a hardened fabric layer on the outer layer and a textile bonding layer on the inner layer, is obtained. When applied to protective equipment that has a curved shape, the heating and pressurizing process described above is performed using a mold for the protective equipment, and the outer layer and the inner layer are integrally molded in the mold. It is desirable to do so. The member for protective equipment of the present invention can be used in addition to the above method.
For example, a method may be used in which the outer fabric hardening layer and the inner fabric bonding layer are manufactured separately and then bonded and integrated by appropriate means, or the fabrics are laminated in multiple layers using a film adhesive or the like. It can also be manufactured by a method in which the outer layer is soaked and hardened by impregnating the outer layer with a thermosetting resin. However, in the case of the former post-adhesion method, not only does it add one step to the process, but it is also difficult to mold the protective equipment with a cubic curved surface, and in the latter post-impregnation method, the impregnated resin None of these methods are as good as the previously detailed methods in terms of uniformity of distribution, etc. (Function) The protective equipment member of the present invention has a structure in which the outer layer of a laminate of high-strength organic synthetic fiber fabric is hardened with a thermosetting resin, and the inner layer is fully bonded with an adhesive to have appropriate rigidity. This not only makes it possible to maintain penetration resistance at a sufficiently high level even though only a portion (the outer layer) of the laminate is cured, as in the case of hardening the entire laminate, but it also makes it possible to maintain penetration resistance at a sufficiently high level. As for resistance to bullets, the synergistic effect of the hardened surface layer and the internal bonding layer prevents the bullet from penetrating, and the bonding layer has an appropriate degree of rigidity (flexibility) to disperse the energy of the bullet. It has the effect of reducing the amount of deformation toward the human body by absorbing it, and combined with the weight reduction due to partial hardening, it is lightweight and has excellent ballistic and blade resistance. For the first time, it became possible to provide components for protective equipment. Next, the present invention will be explained in more detail by giving Examples and Comparative Examples. In addition, in these cases, the bullet resistance and blade resistance of the members for protective equipment were evaluated as follows. Bullet resistance: A 30cm square sample is pasted vertically on a 20cm thick oil clay wall, and three shots each are fired from a 38 caliber and 45 caliber handgun at a distance of 10m, with each firing point at least 10cm away. The bullet resistance was evaluated based on the degree of bullet penetration and the depth of the dent in the clay on the back of the sample. Blade resistance: A sample attached to an oil clay wall in the same manner as above was stabbed vigorously with a Japanese sword and an ice pick using both hands, and blade resistance was evaluated by determining whether the cutting edge reached the oil clay wall. Production Example Various fabrics shown in Table 1 were woven using Kevlar (manufactured by Du Pont), which is a para-aromatic polyamide fiber, as a high-strength organic synthetic fiber.
