Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording material which donates adequate performance to various functions such as coloring properties as well as high sensitivity and solvent resistance by allowing the presence of fluoran derivative having an alkylamino group substituted by an aryloxy group or an arylthio group at the 6th position as an electron-donative colorless dye. CONSTITUTION:A thermal recording material containing an electron-donative colorless dye and an electron-receptive compound consists of a thermally coloring layer containing a fluoran derivative with an alkylamino group substituted by an aryloxy group or an arylthio group at the 6th position as an electron- donative colorless dye, provided on a support having a smoothness degree of 500sec. or higher as specified by JIS-P-8119. The fluoran derivative is such as 2-anilino-3-methyl-6-N-ethyl-N-(2-phenoxyethyl)amino fluoran, for example.

These thermal recording systems are being applied to a wide range of fields such as facsimiles, printers, and labels, and their needs are expanding. In the past, there was a strong demand for high-speed recording, low-energy printing, head matching properties, etc., but recently, with the expansion of applications, there has been a growing demand for heat-sensitive recording materials that are highly sensitive and have excellent background preservation. There is. In particular, it is the resistance when using products that use solvents, such as solvent pens, diazo copying materials, and adhesives that are often used as office supplies, and also the resistance in the storage state of printing. In order to meet these requirements, many proposals have been made, including the use of protective layers and the use of solvent-resistant color developers. However, these methods have not been able to achieve high sensitivity. In addition, the present inventors have found that solvent resistance can be imparted by using a fluoran derivative having an alkylamino group substituted with an aryloxy group or an arylthio group at the 6-position. The problem was that the sensitivity was lower than the high-sensitivity color formers currently available.
