Moreover, the purpose is to maintain the reliability of the system that uses the line, and when a failure occurs in the current line termination equipment of the communication line, the current line is switched to a backup line and the failure is rectified. A line switching device in a system consisting of a plurality of lines configured to switch a faulty device to a protection line terminating device connected to a protection line, wherein each protection line is connected or disconnected from each other via a switch means. The configuration is such that one protection line termination device is provided for each of the protection lines that are connected to each other.

It is wasteful to make all lines full-duplex, so it is effective to make lines with high frequency of failure full-duplex, and to install backup lines for every few lines with low frequency of failure.

A working line termination device is connected to each working line 7 (indicated by an arrow), but is omitted from the figure. The switch means 3 is closed at (m-1) points,
One protection line termination device is shared by each group in which protection lines are connected to each other. Failures of two or more lines within the same group cannot be responded to at the same time. Therefore, it is necessary to increase or decrease the number of interconnections of protection lines depending on the failure occurrence rate of the line.
