A metal vapor laser is provided in which the mixing ratio of atoms and buffer gas is maintained substantially equal. By maintaining this mixing ratio at the mixing ratio within the capillary, noise contained in the laser output light is reduced.

The cathode 30 is formed in a coil shape and is located within 5 cm from the open end of the capillary 10, and the discharge distance from the open end of the capillary 10 to the cathode 30 is maintained within 5 cm. 第2B図に示すように大幅に低減される。 According to the embodiment of the present invention described above, when a discharge occurs between the anode 20 and the cathode 30 via the H e gas and metal vapor is supplied from the metal reservoir 24, a discharge occurs between the tip of the anode 20 and the opening of the metal reservoir 24. At this point, a substantial He gas discharge occurs, and between the opening of the metal reservoir 24 and the cathode 30, a substantial mixed discharge of C d vapor and He gas occurs. Therefore, the Cd metal molecules are excited, and laser output light is generated from the blue star windows 12 and 14, and the laser output light is led out from either of the reflecting mirrors 4 or 2. The noise contained in the laser output light is significantly reduced as shown in FIG. 2B compared to the conventional laser of FIG. 2A.

が低減されると推測される。 That is, while the laser output light obtained from conventional lasers contained as much as 17% peak-to-peak noise, the laser output light obtained from the laser of the present invention contained 2% peak-to-peak noise.
The noise can be kept to ~8%. The reason why the noise is reduced by the embodiments of the present invention is presumed to be based on the following facts. The C d vapor transferred within the capillary 10 by the cataphoresis effect flows from the open end of the capillary 10 into the expanded section 32 having a large space, and is deposited on the C d vapor coagulation section 34 . continuously
Since the expansion part 32 into which the C d vapor flows has a large space itself, the concentration of the C d vapor within it does not become large, and the C d vapor that flows into this space does not increase.
The C d vapor is solidified in the coagulation part 34 whose inner diameter is expanded so that the C d vapor can be easily solidified and whose surface temperature is kept low compared to other surface areas. Approximately 5cm from the opening end
The space within is maintained at approximately the metal vapor concentration within the capillary 10, and the mixing ratio of He gas and metal vapor within the capillary 10 is maintained. Since the cathode 30 is provided in a space within approximately 5 cm from the open end of the capillary 10, the mixed discharge generated within the capillary 10 is directly generated in the discharge path from the open end of the capillary 10 to the cathode 30, and as a result, It is assumed that noise in the laser output light is reduced.

る。 In the embodiment described above, the metal reservoir 24 is directly connected to the capillary 10, and metal vapor is directly supplied from the middle of the capillary 10. Moreover,
This metal vapor supply position is kept within approximately 5 cm from the open end of the capillary 10 on the anode side. By attaching the metal reservoir 24 to the capillary 10 in this manner, the laser beam is substantially output between the opening of the metal reservoir 24 in the capillary 10 and the tip of the anode 20, even though substantial He gas discharge occurs. It is possible to further reduce noise.

is attached to the capillary 10, and a cathode 30 is likewise located within 5 cm from its opening. Therefore, noise in the laser output light can be similarly reduced in this modified embodiment. In addition, the same parts in the figure as shown in FIG. 1 are given the same reference numerals and additional symbols a and b, and the explanation thereof will be omitted.

A path will be drawn from the open end of the pipe 0 to the Brew Star Window attachment part 18, and then bend and return to the opening of the branch pipe 36.
Further, the metal vapor transferred inside the capillary 10 by the cataphoresis effect is transferred to the capillary 10.
The coagulation part 34 and branch pipe 36 within the expansion part 32 flow into the expansion part 32 from the open end of the expansion part 32 without stagnation.
The water flows toward the coagulation section 42 provided protruding from the surface and is coagulated on this surface. Therefore, the noise in the laser output light is reduced because the density gradient when the metal ions in the discharge path return to metal atoms due to the action of self-heating heat due to the discharge is made gentler.

験的に確認されている。 Further, as shown in FIG. 5, the capillary outer peripheral portion 44 of the extended portion 32 is formed to be smaller than the other portions, and its cross section W 2 is the cross section W 1 of the other portions.
It is preferable that the area is smaller than that of . Since the outer circumferential portion 44 is small, the temperature within the outer circumferential portion 44 is higher than other portions, and therefore, C d ions adhere to the solidified portion 34 gently, and the ions and C d atoms are separated. The density gradient can be made gentler. Further, the distance t 1 between the end of the outer circumferential portion 44 and the open end of the capillary 10 is within 3 mm, or a portion with a width of W 2 is formed beyond the tip of the capillary, and the opening of the capillary 10 is It has been experimentally confirmed that it is desirable to maintain the distance t 2 between the edge and the center line 40 at 5 mm or more in order to obtain the desired effect.
