[Industrial Field of Application] The present invention is particularly applicable to the production of magnetic particles for magnetic recording, in which the particle size used as a starting material is fine and the axial ratio (long axis: short axis) is large. 5:
The present invention relates to a method for producing goethite particle powder consisting of spindle-shaped goethite particles having a particle size of 1 or more, uniform particle size, and no dendritic particles mixed therein. [Prior Art] In recent years, as magnetic recording and reproducing equipment has become smaller and lighter, there has been an increasing need for higher performance recording media such as magnetic tapes and magnetic disks. That is, high recording density, high sensitivity characteristics, high output characteristics,
and low noise characteristics are required. In order to satisfy the above-mentioned requirements for magnetic recording media, the magnetic material particles must have fine particles, high coercive force, and excellent dispersibility. That is, in order to achieve high sensitivity, high output, and low noise in magnetic recording media, it is necessary for magnetic particles to be as fine as possible and to have high coercive force. ``Development of magnetic materials and high dispersion technology of magnetic particles'' (1982) published by Sogo Technological Center Co., Ltd., page 310, ``The aim of improving magnetic tape performance is to achieve higher sensitivity, higher output, and lower noise.'' Therefore, the emphasis was placed on increasing the coercive force and making the acicular γ-Fe 2 CO 3 particles finer.'' and on page 312 of the same document, ``Acicular γ-Fe 2 CO 3 It is clear from the statement that there is a relationship between the particle size of the magnetic tape and the noise of the magnetic tape, and that the noise decreases as the particle size becomes finer. In addition, in order to achieve high recording density of magnetic recording media, the above-mentioned "Development of magnetic materials and high dispersion technology of magnetic particles"
The conditions for high-density recording in coated tapes on page 312 are to be able to maintain high output characteristics with low noise for short wavelength signals, but in order to do so, both coercive force Hc and residual magnetization Br must be large. In addition, it is necessary that the thickness of the coating film be thinner. '', it is necessary for the magnetic recording medium to have a high coercive force and a large residual magnetization Br, and for this purpose, the magnetic particle powder must have a high coercive force, have good dispersibility in the vehicle, and have a good coating film. Excellent orientation and filling properties are required. The residual magnetization Br of a magnetic recording medium depends on the dispersibility of the magnetic particles in the vehicle, the orientation and filling properties in the coating film, and in order to improve these properties, it is necessary to disperse them in the vehicle. It is required that the particle size of the magnetic particles is uniform and that dendritic particles are not mixed therein. Furthermore, as is well known, the magnitude of the coercive force of magnetic particles depends on any one of shape anisotropy, crystal anisotropy, strain anisotropy, and exchange anisotropy, or the interaction thereof. Currently, acicular magnetite particles or acicular maghemite particles, which are currently used as magnetic particles for magnetic recording, utilize the anisotropy derived from their shape, that is, the axial ratio (long axis : A relatively high coercive force is obtained by increasing the short axis). These known acicular magnetite particles or acicular maghemite particles are produced by mixing goethite particles as a starting material in a reducing gas such as hydrogen at 300° C.
It is obtained by reducing it at ~400°C to give magnetite particles, or by oxidizing it in air at 200-300°C to give maghemite particles. As mentioned above, magnetic particles with fine particle size, large axis ratio (major axis: short axis), uniform particle size, and no dendritic particles are currently in most demand. In order to obtain magnetic particles with such characteristics, the starting material, goethite particles, must have a fine particle size, a large axial ratio (long axis: short axis), and It is necessary that the particle size is uniform and that dendritic particles are not mixed. Conventionally, the method for producing goethite particle powder, which is the starting material, is to add a solution containing ferrous hydroxide particles obtained by adding an equivalent amount or more of an alkaline solution to a ferrous salt solution, and then heating the solution containing ferrous hydroxide particles at a temperature of 80°C or higher at a pH of 11 or higher. A method of generating acicular goethite particles by performing an oxidation reaction by passing an oxygen-containing gas at a temperature, and a method of generating oxygen-containing aqueous solution containing FeCO 3 obtained by reacting an aqueous ferrous salt solution with an alkali carbonate. A method is known in which spindle-shaped goethite particles are produced by performing an oxidation reaction by passing a gas through the material. [Problems to be solved by the invention] Magnetic particle powder is fine in particle size, has a large axis ratio (long axis: short axis), is uniform in particle size, and does not contain dendritic particles. , which is currently most required, is the former method of producing goethite particle powder as a starting material, in the case of the former method, the axial ratio (major axis: minor axis)
Although large acicular goethite particles are produced, dendritic particles are mixed therein, and in terms of particle size, it is difficult to say that the particles have a uniform particle size. In the case of the latter method among the above-mentioned known methods, particles with an axial ratio (long axis: short axis) of about 5:1 to 7:1 are obtained, and the particle size is uniform and dendritic particles are mixed. However, the particle size is large and
The particles are 0.60μm or larger. In addition, in the latter method, spindle-shaped goethite particles are created by pre-existing water-soluble silicate in an aqueous solution containing FeCO 3 before an oxidation reaction is carried out by passing oxygen-containing gas through the aqueous solution. A method of reducing the particle size is also known, but when this method is used, the particle size becomes smaller and at the same time the axial ratio (long axis:short axis) also becomes smaller, becoming 4:1 or less. Therefore, there is a strong need to establish a method for producing goethite powder that has fine particle size, a large axial ratio (long axis: short axis), uniform particle size, and does not contain dendritic particles. has been done. [Means for Solving the Problems] The present inventor has developed a method that has fine grain size, a large axis ratio (major axis: short axis), is uniform in grain size, and has dendritic particles mixed therein. As a result of various studies in order to obtain goethite particles powder that does not have any That is, the present invention involves passing an oxygen-containing gas through an aqueous solution containing FeCO 3 obtained by reacting an aqueous ferrous salt solution with an alkali carbonate to oxidize Fe 2+ in the aqueous solution containing FeCO 3 . In the method for producing goethite particle powder consisting of goethite particles exhibiting a spindle shape, the aqueous solution containing FeCO 3 before performing an oxidation reaction by passing the ferrous salt aqueous solution, the alkali carbonate, and an oxygen-containing gas through the aqueous solution. and 0.1 to 10 atomic % of water-soluble tin salt in terms of Sn is added to either of the aqueous solutions containing FeCO 3 after the start of aeration of oxygen-containing gas and before 20% of Fe 2+ is oxidized. This is a method for producing goethite particle powder consisting of spindle-shaped goethite particles. [Operation] First, the most important point in the present invention is that the ferrous salt aqueous solution obtained by reacting with an alkali carbonate
Oxygen-containing gas is bubbled through an aqueous solution containing FeCO 3 to
In a method for producing goethite particle powder consisting of spindle-shaped goethite particles by oxidizing Fe 2+ in an aqueous solution containing FeCO 3 , the ferrous salt aqueous solution, the alkali carbonate, and an oxygen-containing gas are aerated. The aqueous solution containing FeCO 3 before the oxidation reaction and after the start of aeration of the oxygen-containing gas 20 of Fe 2+
If a water-soluble tin salt is added in advance to any of the aqueous solutions containing FeCO 3 before oxidation, the particle size is fine and the axial ratio (long axis: short axis) is large. The point is that a goethite particle powder having a uniform particle size and no dendritic particles is obtained. In the present invention, the particle size of spindle-shaped goethite particles tends to decrease as the amount of water-soluble tin salt added increases, so by changing the amount of water-soluble tin salt added, It controls the particle size of spindle-shaped goethite particles. Next, various conditions for carrying out the method of the present invention will be described. Examples of the ferrous salt aqueous solution used in the present invention include a ferrous sulfate aqueous solution and a ferrous chloride aqueous solution. As the alkali carbonate used in the present invention, sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, and ammonium carbonate are used alone or in combination with an alkali hydrogen carbonate such as sodium hydrogen carbonate, potassium hydrogen carbonate, and ammonium hydrogen carbonate. be able to. The reaction temperature in the present invention is 40 to 80°C. If the temperature is lower than 40°C, spindle-shaped goethite particles cannot be obtained. If the temperature exceeds 80°C, particulate Fe 3 O 4 will be mixed. The PH in the present invention is 7-11. If it is less than 7 or more than 11, spindle-shaped goethite particles cannot be obtained. The oxidation means in the present invention is carried out by passing an oxygen-containing gas (for example, air) into the liquid. Water-soluble tin salts used in the present invention include tin sulfate, tin chloride, and the like. The water-soluble tin salt in the present invention is involved in the particle size and axis ratio (long axis: short axis) of the spindle-shaped goethite particles to be produced, and therefore,
It is necessary that 20% of Fe 2+ in the FeCO 3 aqueous solution be present before it is oxidized. It can be added to either an aqueous solution containing FeCO 3 or an aqueous solution containing FeCO 3 after the start of aeration of the oxygen-containing gas but before 20% of Fe 2+ is oxidized. The amount of water-soluble tin salt added in the present invention is Fe
It is 0.1 to 10 atomic % in terms of Sn. If it is less than 0.1 atomic %, the object of the present invention cannot be fully achieved. The spindle-shaped goethite particles obtained in the present invention maintain a large axial ratio (long axis: short axis) as the amount of water-soluble tin salt added increases.
The particle size tends to become smaller. If it exceeds 10 atomic %, amorphous particles will be mixed in the powder consisting of spindle-shaped goethite particles, and magnetic oxidation obtained by reducing or further oxidizing the generated goethite particles. This is not preferable because the saturation magnetization of the iron particle powder decreases. When considering the particle size and saturation magnetization of spindle-shaped magnetite particles or maghemite particles,
0.1 to 3.0 at% is preferred. [Example] Next, the present invention will be explained with reference to Examples and Comparative Examples. In addition, the axial ratio (long axis: short axis) and long axis of particles in the following Examples and Comparative Examples are both shown as average values of numerical values measured from electron micrographs. <Generation of spindle-shaped goethite particles> Examples 1 to 12, Comparative Example 1; Example 1 Contains 1.0 atomic % of Fe in terms of Sn

In addition to a 1.00 mol/Na 2 CO 3 aqueous solution 30 prepared in a reactor, FeCO 3 containing Sn was generated at a pH of 9.9 and a temperature of 55°C. The temperature of the aqueous solution containing FeCO3 containing Sn above
Sn-containing goethite particles were produced at 55° C. by blowing air at 130/min for 4.5 hours. The end point of the oxidation reaction was determined by extracting a portion of the reaction solution and acidifying it with hydrochloric acid, and then using a red blood salt solution to determine the presence or absence of a blue coloring reaction of Fe 2+ . The generated particles are separated, washed with water, dried, and
Shattered. As clearly seen from the electron micrograph (×30000) shown in Figure 1, the Sn-containing goethite particles are spindle-shaped with an average long axis of 0.23 μm and an axial ratio (long axis: short axis) of 6.9:1. The particles were uniform in size and did not contain dendritic particles. Examples 2 to 12 Except that the type and concentration of Fe 2+ aqueous solution, the type and concentration of alkali carbonate, the type, amount and timing of addition of water-soluble Sn salt, type and amount of metal ion, and reaction temperature were varied. Goethite particles exhibiting a spindle shape were produced in the same manner as in Example 1. Table 1 shows the main manufacturing conditions and characteristics of the produced goethite particles. FIG. 2 shows an electron micrograph (×30,000) of the spindle-shaped goethite particles obtained in Example 4. Comparative Example 1 Goethite particles were produced in the same manner as in Example 1 except that SnSO 4 was not added. As is clear from the electron micrograph (×30000) shown in Figure 3, the obtained goethite particles have an average long axis of 0.67 μm and an axial ratio (long axis: short axis) of 5.4:1.
