Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔産業上の利用分野〕 この発明は、特に低消費電力で明るいフルカラ
ー表示画面が得られるカラー表示装置に関するも
のである。
〔従来の技術〕
フルカラー表示を行う場合、赤、緑、青の三原
色の光源が必要であり、低消費電力を図る目的で
それらの光源にLED(発光ダイオード)を使用す
るものも多くなつてきている。このLEDを用い
てカラー表示装置を実現する場合、赤色発光の
LEDと緑色発光のLEDと青色発光のLEDを各表
示画素毎にプリント基板上に取り付け、各々の
LEDを画像信号に従つて制御することにより、
所望のフルカラー表示画面が得られるようにして
いる。
〔発明が解決しようとする課題〕
しかしながら、上記のような三原色光源に
LEDを用いたカラー表示装置にあつては、赤色
と緑色のLEDの明るさは十分であるが、青色の
LEDの明るさが同程度には至らず、このため、
明るく鮮明な表示画面が得られないという問題点
があつた。
この発明は、このような問題点に着目してなさ
れたもので、低消費電力で、且つ明るく鮮明なフ
ルカラー表示画面が得られるカラー表示装置を得
ることを目的としている。
〔課題を解決するための手段〕
この発明のカラー表示装置は、青色発光の蛍光
ランプまたは白色蛍光ランプと青色フイルタから
なる青色光源部と、その青色光の透過を各画素毎
に制御する液晶パネルとを備え、各画素毎に設け
たオプテイカルフアイバの一端をそれぞれ上記液
晶パネルを通過した各画素毎の青色信号が入射可
能な位置に固定し、且つこれらのオプテイカルフ
アイバの他端を各画素毎に赤色発光のLEDと緑
色発光のLEDを取り付けたプリント基板の対応
する位置に固定し、各画素毎に上記赤色発光と緑
色発光のLEDと液晶パネルの駆動を制御するこ
とによりフルカラー表示を行うように構成したも
のであり、また、上記オプテイカルフアイバの他
端を、プリント基板の裏面から表面に突出させて
固定し、更に、液晶パネルを各画素毎に光の透過
率が可変なものにしたものである。
〔作用〕
この発明のカラー表示装置においては、青色光
源部に蛍光ランプを用いているので、表示画面が
明るく鮮明になり、また、他の光源はLEDを用
いているので、消費電力は小さい。
〔実施例〕
第1図はこの発明の一実施例によるカラー表示
装置の主要構成を示す分解斜視図であり、第1図
aは表示部Aの構成、第1図bは青色光源部Bの
構成をそれぞれ示している。なお、青色光源部B
は、マトリクス状の表示画素の中で1ライン分の
画素に対応する部分のみを示している。
第1図において、1は棒状の青色発光の蛍光ラ
ンプ、2はその周辺(前面)に配置された強誘電
性液晶の液晶パネルで、蛍光ランプ1からの青色
の透過を各画素毎に制御するための複数のパター
ン電極がドツト状に設けられている。そして、各
ドツト3は外部からの駆動信号により各々独立し
てオン(ON)、オフ(OFF)し、また青色光の
透過率は可変となつている。4は各画素毎のオプ
テイカルフアイバ5を装着した一方のフアイバ基
板で、各オプテイカルフアイバ5の一端はそれぞ
れこのフアイバ基板4を貫通して上記液晶パネル
2を通過した各画素毎の青色信号が入射可能な位
置に固定され、他端は他方のフアイバ基板6を貫
通して設けられている。7は各画素毎に赤色発光
のLED(チツプ)8と緑色発光のLED(チツプ)
9を取り付けたプリント基板で、上記オプテイカ
ルフアイバ5の他端はこのプリント基板7の対応
する位置でその裏面から貫通孔10を通し、表面
に突出して固定されている。11はプリント基板
7の前面に配置された反射枠で、各画素に対応し
た位置にすり鉢状の穴12を有しており、ランプ
ハウスとして形成されている。
なお、青色光源部Bの構成は、上記青色発光の
蛍光ランプ1に代えて、白色蛍光ランプと青色透
明フイルタの組合せとしても良い。
上記のカラー表示装置においては、表示画面の
1ドツト(画素)が1個の赤色のLED8と1個
の緑色のLED9と1本の青色のオプテイカルフ
アイバ5とで構成され、複数ドツトのマトリクス
表示画面が形成されている。そして、各LED8,
9の明るさと液晶パネル2での透過率を制御する
ことにより、所望のフルカラー表示画面が得られ
る。その際、表示部Aのプリント基板7の前面に
は各画素毎にすり鉢状の穴12が設けた反射枠1
1が配設されているので、各光源からの光が有効
に取り出される。また、青色光を得るのに蛍光ラ
ンプ1を使用し、他の赤色と緑色も自発光素子で
ある単波長のLED8,9を使用しているので、
明るく鮮明なフルカラー表示画面が得られると共
に、低消費電力で、寿命も長い。更に、応答速度
も速いので、ビデオ信号等をリアルタイムで処理
することができる。
第2図は第1図の表示装置の具体的回路構成を
示すブロツク図で、ここではビデオ信号を処理す
るテレビの場合を示している。
NTSC方式のビデオ信号が入力されると、この
信号は信号分離回路20でR(赤)、G(緑)、B
(青)のアナログ輝度信号に分離された後、A/
D(アナログ/デジタル)変換器21〜23によ
りデジタル信号に変換され、各々の表示用メモリ
24〜26に格納される。この1画面分の信号が
格納される間、表示用メモリ27〜29にすでに
格納されている前画面のR、G、Bの各信号の中
で、RとGの信号はそれぞれ階調コントロールレ
ジスタ30,31を通してFETからなるLEDド
ライバ32,33に送られ、Bの信号は直接
LCDドライバ34に送られる。そして、各ドラ
イバ32〜34により、第1図の各LEDチツプ
8,9及び液晶パネル2が駆動され、表示パネル
35に画像が表示される。その際、コントロール
回路36はビデオ信号及び信号分離回路20から
の同期信号に基づき、上記各ドライバ32〜34
及びコモンドライブ回路37にタイミング信号を
出力し、表示パネル35を制御している。そし
て、この画面の表示が完了すると、上記表示用メ
モリ24〜26に格納されたR、G、Bの各信号
がそれぞれ上記のようにして各ドライバ32〜3
4に送られて表示パネル35に画像が表示され、
表示用メモリ27〜29にはその次の画面の信号
が上記のようにして格納される。
なお、第2図の例では表示回路が二つの場合を
示したが、大表示容量の場合はこの表示回路を複
数に分割し、全体を複数画面で構成することも可
能である。
またこの発明は、テレビ、ビデオ装置の他に、
パーソナルコンピユータ等の表示モニタ、テレビ
ゲーム用モニタ、また広告、宣伝用デイスプレイ
装置などに広く適用することができる。
〔発明の効果〕
以上のように、この発明によれば、赤色発光の
LED及び緑色発光のLEDを使用し、青色光には
蛍光ランプを用いているため、低消費電力で、且
つ明るく鮮明なフルカラー表示画面が得られると
いう効果がある。

Claims (1)

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 1 青色発光の蛍光ランプまたは白色蛍光ランプ
    と青色フイルタからなる青色光源部と、その青色
    光の透過を各画素毎に制御する液晶パネルとを備
    え、各画素毎に設けたオプテイカルフアイバの一
    端をそれぞれ上記液晶パネルを透過した各画素毎
    の青色信号が入射可能な位置に固定し、且つこれ
    らのオプテイカルフアイバの他端を各画素毎に赤
    色発光のLEDと緑色発光のLEDを取り付けたプ
    リント基板の対応する位置に固定し、各画素毎に
    上記赤色発光と緑色発光のLEDと液晶パネルの
    駆動を制御することによりフルカラー表示を行う
    ことを特徴とするカラー表示装置。 2 オプテイカルフアイバの他端を、プリント基
    板の裏面から表面に突出させて固定したことを特
    徴とする請求項1記載のカラー表示装置。 3 液晶パネルは、各画素毎に光の透過率が可変
    なことを特徴とする請求項1または2記載のカラ
    ー表示装置。
