ランプが示されている。このような小形メタルハライド
ランプはさらに屋外で使用される場合には天井の高さや
天井裏のスペース等の問題からランプを収納する照明器
具にも自ら制約があり、このためランプを水平にして点
灯させることにより、照明器具の小形化あるいは配光性
を向上させることが考えられている。しかしながら、メ
タルハライドランプは水平点灯するとアークの上方への
曲りを生じ、発光管の上部管壁に異状接近したりあるい
は接触し、これが原因でランプ効率や演色性の低下、さ
らには点灯中のランプ電圧の急上昇による立消えや寿命
