A method called the Carlson method, which is composed of the steps of charging, exposing, developing, transferring, cleaning and discharging, is widely adopted. Further, after transferring the developed image to a sheet, a final image is obtained by a heat roll method or a pressure fixing method. As a transfer means in this case, a corotron is generally used, but when the transfer is performed by a corotron, toner scattering occurs at the time of transfer,
It is difficult to obtain high-quality images. Further, for simplification, it has been proposed to perform transfer and fixing at the same time. As an example of using an amorphous silicon photoconductor, JP-A-55-
Japanese Patent No. 87156 proposes a method in which transfer fixing onto a sheet is simultaneously performed by a heating fixing roll. In this method, since the roller surface is heated to a high temperature of about 180 ° C., it is impossible to constantly contact the photoconductor, and a complicated mechanism such as a cooling device for cooling the photoconductor is required. There is also a problem that it is not suitable for continuous use. In addition, Japanese Patent Publication No. 1-34954 proposes that a conductive one-component toner is used to apply pressure to simultaneously perform transfer and fixing. However, when the pressure is applied to the photoconductor and the transfer and the fixing are simultaneously performed, the photoconductor and the device that applies the pressure to the photoconductor are in direct contact with each other, that is, between the photoconductor and the device that applies the pressure to the photoconductor. When there is no toner image, even if a slight toner image is formed on the photoconductor, the phenomenon in which the toner is transferred and fixed to the device that applies pressure to the photoconductor occurs. This can cause paper jams and show-through on the paper, significantly reducing the reliability of copy operations.

The surface layer should be made thick in order to improve the mechanical strength, but since it is generally an insulator, the residual potential becomes high when it is made thick. As a result, when the residual potential is high, development is easy and so-called fog is likely to occur. Therefore, the surface layer usually has a thickness of 0.1 to
It is common to design so that the residual potential is 1 μm and the residual potential is about 0 to 50 volts.

It can be formed by a method such as a sputtering method, an ion plating method, or a vacuum vapor deposition method. The glow discharge decomposition method will be described below as an example of its manufacturing method. First, as the raw material gas, a mixture of a main raw material gas containing silicon atoms and a raw material gas containing necessary additive elements is used. In this case, if necessary, this mixture may be further mixed with a carrier gas such as hydrogen gas or an inert gas. The film forming conditions are a frequency of 0 to 5 GHz, a reactor internal pressure of 10 -5 to 10 Torr (0.001 to 133 P).
a), discharge power 10-3000 W, and support temperature 3
It is 0 to 300 ° C. The film thickness of each layer can be appropriately set by adjusting the discharge time. Silanes, particularly SiH 4 and / or Si 2 H 6 are preferably used as the main raw material gas containing silicon atoms.

It may also be composed of a plurality of layers (15a, 15b and 15c). Examples of the material forming the surface layer include SiO x , SiN x , SiC x , aC formed by a plasma CVD method, a vapor deposition method, and an ion plating method.
In addition to AlO x and the like, those obtained by dispersing conductive metal oxide fine powder in an organic polymer material or an inorganic polymer material can be used. Further, for example, a silicon hard coating agent which is an inorganic coating material formed by a solvent casting method, an epoxy resin or a urethane resin which is a thermosetting organic polymer material, and the like can be used. These may be used alone or in combination. It is desirable that the surface layer be thick in order to prevent a reduction in life due to abrasion and scratches due to an accident. Further, the surface layer is useful for preventing scratches generated on the surface of the amorphous silicon-based photoconductor during pressure fixing and improving transfer efficiency.

Of these, a curable resin is preferable from the viewpoint of mechanical strength and adhesiveness. When an organic polymer material is used as a binder resin, the dispersion liquid obtained by dissolving and dispersing in a solvent is adjusted in viscosity, and then applied on the photosensitive layer or the intermediate layer by a spray method or a dipping method. The surface layer can be obtained by drying or dry-curing. Various additives may be added to the surface layer in order to improve dispersibility, adhesiveness or smoothness.

When the temperature is kept constant in order to stabilize the charging potential, it is difficult to keep the temperature at 30 ° C. or lower because it easily changes depending on the external environment. On the other hand, when the temperature is 80 ° C. or higher, the dark resistance of the amorphous silicon photoconductor decreases, and it becomes difficult to obtain the electrostatic potential required for development. In FIG. 1, the photoconductor is heated from the inside of the photoconductor, but it can also be heated from the outside. As the heating means, a lamp heater (claw lamp) or a heater in which a nichrome wire is placed in a heat-resistant plastic rubber such as silicone rubber can be used. In addition, a hot air blower type heater, one using radiant heat such as infrared rays,
A device that uses heat of the fixing unit is also applicable. Any means can be used as an energizing means to the heating means of these photoconductors. However, especially when the heating means is provided inside the support of the photoconductor, the photoconductor rotates, so that a slip ring is used. It is preferable that the electric power is supplied through.

The potential applied to the developing device differs depending on the image input method, the image forming method, and the developer. For example, when image rating is used as the input method and conductive toner is used as the developer, in order to develop the exposed area (image), the potential applied to the developing device is the charge at the developing position of the photoconductor. In order to develop the non-exposed area at the same electric potential as the electric potential, it is desirable that the electric potential applied to the developing device be 0 V or the same electric potential as the exposed area (residual potential of the photoconductor: RP).
When backlighting is adopted as the input method and conductive toner is used as the developer, in order to develop the non-exposed area, the potential applied to the developing device is 0 V, or the same potential as the exposed area, or the exposed area. In order to develop the toner, it is desirable that the potential applied to the developing device be the same as the charging potential at the developing position of the photoconductor.

The pressure during transfer or transfer / fixing varies depending on the developer. For example, the pressure when using a developer that simultaneously performs transfer and fixing is 100 kgf / cm 2 or more, preferably 1

Weight / cm 2 or more. Further, it is preferable to provide a surface protective layer on the surface of the pressure transfer roll. By providing the surface protection layer, it is possible to reduce the surface wear of the pressure transfer device due to cleaning, and to reduce the damage that occurs during pressure transfer, and as a result, increase the reliability of the pressure transfer roll. Will be possible. The surface protection layer has at least one selected from the group consisting of ceramics, metals, organic polymeric substances and inorganic polymeric substances.
Although it is composed of seeds, it is desirable to select one having a small surface energy so that the toner attached to the pressure transfer roll can be easily removed by cleaning.

For example, the charge remaining on the surface of the photoconductor may be removed using a scorotron, a dicorotron, a charging roll, a charge removal brush, or the like, or after removing the charge with light,
A charger, for example, a corotron, or a charge eliminating brush or a charge eliminating blade may be used to remove the charges remaining on the surface of the photoreceptor. It should be noted that the charge remaining on the surface of the photoconductor cannot be completely removed only by the charge removal by light, so that the film thickness of the surface layer of the photoconductor cannot be increased and the mechanical strength is not sufficient. Therefore, abrasion and scratches due to accidents are likely to occur, and the life of the photoconductor cannot be sufficiently extended. Further, particularly when a developer or developing system which develops at a low potential is used, development due to the electric charge remaining on the surface of the photoconductor is likely to occur. Further, when the potential of the surface layer and the photoconductor changes due to the change in the number of times of charging, the charging potential is difficult to stabilize.

The conductive toner requires a devised transfer method, but the pressure transfer method in the present invention is effective as one of the transfer means of the conductive toner, and the transfer efficiency is 90% or more as compared with other transfer methods. Remarkably high, which is preferable from the viewpoint of resource saving. When the conductive magnetic one-component toner is used, high-speed and low-potential development is possible, which is preferable in view of the characteristics of the amorphous silicon photoconductor. Also in this case, the capsule toner is preferable because fixing can be performed simultaneously with transfer.

That is, the charges remaining on the surface of the photoconductor can be completely removed, and the thickness of the surface layer of the photoconductor can be increased. Therefore, abrasion and scratches due to an accident are unlikely to occur, and the life of the photoconductor can be dramatically lengthened. Also, because of its high mechanical strength,
A metal blade can be used as a cleaning blade,
In addition to being effective in preventing filming and comet, the life of the cleaning system itself can be dramatically improved as compared with the case where a rubber blade is used. After the charge is removed, no charge remains on the surface of the photoconductor, so that it is possible to prevent the developer from adhering to the pressure transfer device even in an electrophotographic device that transfers by pressure. Further, even when the surface layer and the photosensitive member have potentials that fluctuate due to fluctuations in the number of times of charging, the charging potential can be stabilized.
Further, the present invention uses pressure as a transfer method,
There is no scattering of the developer due to discharge during transfer, making it easy to obtain high-quality images. In addition, there is an advantage that a conductive developer that cannot perform electrostatic transfer can be used.

That is, the current value applied to the charging device was fixed so that the charging potential of the photoconductor was 300 V, and the potential applied to the developing device was 300 V. The timing of charging and developing bias was synchronized with the conveyance of the paper. An LED was used as an exposure device to expose the image portion. As the static eliminator 9, a static eliminator of a type that statically neutralizes with light and then statically with a corotron was used. The polarity of the current passed through the corotron at this time was opposite to the polarity of the charging potential of the photoconductor. A steel blade was used for the cleaning device 8 for the photoconductor. When a pressure of 200 kg / cm 2 was applied between the pressure transfer roll and the photoconductor to continuously perform the copying operation for 1000 sheets, no paper jam occurred. Further, when the pressure transfer roll was observed, adhesion of toner was not recognized. Furthermore, when the back surface of the printed image was observed, adhesion of toner was not recognized. When the blade brought into contact with the pressure transfer roll was observed, adhesion of toner was not recognized. The copying operation was continuously carried out up to 100,000 sheets as it was, but scratches by the cleaning device did not occur on the surface of the photoconductor, and image defects such as black streaks did not occur. When the operation of copying 1 million sheets was continuously performed, scratches were generated by the blade for the first time and black streaks were printed out.

It was When the copying operation of 1000 sheets was continuously performed, no paper jam occurred. Further, when the pressure transfer roll was observed, adhesion of toner was not recognized.
Furthermore, when the back surface of the printed image was observed, adhesion of toner was not recognized. However, when the blade brought into contact with the pressure transfer roll was observed, toner adhesion was recognized. In the printed image, fogging was recognized as the number of printed sheets increased. At this time, when the charging potential of the photoconductor was measured, it was found to increase as the number of prints increased.

When an image is transferred to a sheet by applying pressure or simultaneously transferring and fixing, no toner adheres to the back surface of a transfer member such as a pressure transfer roll that presses a photoconductor. Therefore, there is no paper jam due to the toner adhering to the surface of the transfer member, and there is no back printing on the paper, and a copy image can be obtained with high reliability, energy saving, and low cost. Further, the electrophotographic method of the present invention has an advantage that it is possible to use a conductive one-component toner in which electrostatic transfer cannot be performed, for example, a conductive magnetic one-component capsule toner.
