That is, the infrared reflectance of the anterior ocular tissue is the sclera (white eye),
The iris and pupil decrease in that order. Therefore, infrared rays are radiated from the infrared irradiator toward the anterior eye tissue, infrared rays reflected from the anterior eye tissue are imaged by an infrared TV camera, and the image is displayed on a monitor TV and processed electronically. The pupil size was being measured. In this case, the image displayed on the monitor TV is a natural image that is not much different from the tissue of the anterior segment of the eye by normal visible light illumination. Since the pupil portion has the lowest infrared reflectance, it is shown dark and black.

However, in the conventional pupillary measurement method, the infrared television camera is opposed immediately before the unaided eye, and infrared rays are irradiated to the anterior ocular tissue from, for example, three obliquely front sides, left and right, respectively. As shown by the chain line in FIG. 2, the bright virtual image G of the infrared irradiator is reflected on the hemispherical cornea and is exactly formed on the pupil and the iris region.
Then, the virtual image of the infrared irradiator makes the outline of the pupil unclear, which makes accurate measurement of the pupil size difficult. Further, in order to exclude the position of the virtual image of the infrared irradiator from the region of the pupil, it is necessary to adjust the positional relationship between the eyeball, the infrared television camera and the infrared irradiator,
In particular, it is difficult to adjust the position because there are individual differences in the shape of the eyeball. Further, when the pupil is in a mydriatic state with a wide open, the virtual image of the infrared irradiator is located in the pupil area in any way, and accurate pupil dimension measurement cannot be performed. Further, since the conventional infrared irradiator is formed by providing a tungsten current as a light source and providing an infrared transmitting glass filter which transmits only infrared rays on the front surface thereof, the heat ray from the light source transmits through the infrared transmitting glass filter and the anterior eye. There are inconveniences that the tissue reaches the partial tissue, the eye feels hot during the measurement, and the cornea dries.

More specifically, an infrared LED 9 as an infrared source for emitting infrared rays toward the eyeball 2 is fixedly provided in the casing 8 of the pupil illumination device 1, and an infrared beam 10 emitted from the infrared LED 9 is emitted to the pupil 3 of the pupil 3. A converging lens 11 is provided that narrows the aperture smaller than the smallest pupil 3 having a diameter of about 2 mm. The pupil illumination device 1 is attached to the front surface of the objective lens 12 of the infrared television camera 7 by an appropriate means. Behind the objective lens 12, an image pickup device 14 having an infrared transmitting glass filter 13 is provided. Further, the optical relationship between the pupil illuminating device 1 and the infrared television camera 7 is such that when the infrared television camera 7 is focused on the pupil 3, the infrared beam 10 emitted from the infrared LED 9 is 0 at substantially the center of the pupil 3. First, a chin stand (not shown) in front of the pupil illuminator 1
Place the chin on the top and adjust the position of the infrared television camera 7 to bring its focus into the pupil 3. As a result, the infrared beam 10 emitted from the infrared LED 9 of the pupil illumination device 1 automatically converges to 0 at the position of the pupil 3.
The infrared beam 10 is focused by a converging lens 11 and converged at the position of the pupil 3 to a substantially zero state, which is smaller than that of the pupil 3, at substantially the center of the pupil 3. The infrared beam 10 thus radiated into the eyeball 2 is reflected by the fundus 15 and diffused. Then, the infrared light reflected by the fundus 15 is emitted from the entire pupil 3 to the outside, and is illuminated as a bright pupil image A (hatched portion in FIG. 2) in which the outline of the entire pupil 3 is brightly and clearly erected by the infrared light. To do. The bright pupil image A is imaged by the image sensor 14 through the objective lens 12 of the infrared television camera 7 and the infrared transmission glass filter 13, and is displayed on a monitor television (not shown). In the image displayed on the monitor television, the pupil 3 is much brighter and clearer than the other iris 4 and the sclera 5, and the pupil illuminating device 1 that reflects on the cornea 6 is displayed.
Virtual image g is assimilated in the bright pupil image A of the pupil 3 and does not hinder the automatic measurement of the pupil size by electronic circuit processing by the television system.

As described above, in the present embodiment, the infrared beam 10 that is narrower than the pupil 3 is radiated from the pupil 3 into the eyeball 2, and the reflected infrared rays emitted from the pupil 3 illuminate the pupil 3. Can be regarded as a bright pupil image A having an extremely clear contour, and the subsequent pupil dimension measurement can be performed very easily. In addition, since the virtual image g of the pupil illuminating device 1 reflected on the cornea 6 does not interfere with the measurement of the pupil size, it is not necessary to adjust the setting of the illumination system and the image pickup system, which is required in the related art, and the measurement can be performed very easily. You can In particular, even when the pupil 3 is wide open, the pupil 3 can be accurately illuminated and the pupil size can be reliably measured.

It is also highly safe and does not cause any damage to the eyes. At present, there is no safety standard for infrared eyes, but for example, American standard ANSI, Z13
When the safety standard for laser light defined in No. 6,1-1980 is applied, the permissible limit of direct view of laser light having a wavelength of 820 nm is about 800 μW / cm 2 . on the other hand,
Although the infrared beam in the present invention is not a laser beam, the radiant energy required to obtain a bright pupil image A having sufficient brightness for measuring the pupil size is about 200 μW / cm 2 .
It was 1/4 or less of the allowable limit. Further, in this embodiment, since the infrared LED 9 that does not generate heat rays is used as an infrared ray generation source, the eyes do not become hot and the cornea 6 does not dry even after long-time measurement.

In this embodiment, since only the half mirror 17 is provided in front of the infrared television camera 7, the bright pupil 3
It is possible to measure the pupil size by capturing a brighter and clearer bright pupil image A without reducing the amount of light of the bright pupil image A incident on the infrared television camera 7. Further, the objective lens 12 can be narrowed down to increase the depth of focus for measurement. Further, since the diameter of the converging lens 11 can be increased, the infrared beam 10 can be diffused and irradiated over a wide range of the fundus 15, so that the amount of infrared rays irradiated to the fovea centralis can be reduced. , Eye safety can be increased.

2, a small reflecting mirror 18 is installed in front of the second reflecting mirror 18, and an infrared beam 10 is emitted toward the small reflecting mirror 18 from a pupil illuminating device 1 provided in a direction orthogonal to the optical axis to suppress a light amount loss during imaging. It is a thing. Further, by adjusting the position and angle of the small reflecting mirror 18, the amount of reflected infrared rays on the cornea 6 due to the illumination coaxial with the eyeball 2 can be reduced.

FIG. 5 shows still another embodiment of the present invention, which is formed so that the infrared beam 10 is not directly irradiated on the fovea centralis. That is, a plurality of (two in this embodiment) pupil illuminators 1 are arranged beside the objective lens 12 and the eyeballs 2

It should be noted that when a vidicon-based image pickup tube is used as the image pickup device 14, there is no problem, but when a solid-state image sensor is used, the solid-state image sensor causes blooming due to a reflected bright spot of the pupil illuminating device 1 due to the reflection of the cornea 6. It can occur and sometimes interfere with the measurement of pupil size as vertical smears. In this case, as shown by the chain line in FIG. 1, the converging lens 11 and the infrared transmitting glass filter 1
It is advisable to provide polarizing elements 16a and 16b immediately before 3 and change the relative phases of the polarizing elements 16a and 16b so as to reduce the reflected infrared rays in the cornea 6 so as to be negligible in measurement.

It is known that the infrared reflectance of the fundus of the optic disc is high. This is a circular so-called visual field defect portion (Marriott's blind spot), which is located approximately 15 degrees to the nasal side from the fovea and has a diameter of approximately 5 degrees. Therefore, in the present invention, by irradiating infrared rays so as to be incident on this site, a further better effect can be obtained, and the safety can be made higher than that of macular irradiation.
