Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は薄い吸収性パンテイライナーに関し、これは装
着者の下着を、月経中の使用ならびに単独または他の月
経用品との関連の双方における月経中の使用に際して、
保護するためのものである。
数種類の製品が現在市場に在つて、使用者に下着の汚染
からの保護を提供しており、一般にこれらは下着の股部
に装着するようにデザインされている。これらの製品
は、体液透過性の身体に対面するサイド、体液を吸収お
よび保持することのできる吸収体、および衣類に対面す
るサイド上の液体不透過性裏地を備え、この裏地は吸収
および保持された液体の下着の股面上への「透過（stri
king through）」を阻止するためのものである。更に、
これらの製品は、一般にそれを衣類の股部に接着させる
ための感圧接着剤から成る層を備えている。
この種の製品は、米国特許出願第423,389号（出願日:19
82年９月24日）中に記載されており、この製品は通気性
の特徴をさらに有している。本願の明細書中に開示され
ているように、説明されているパンテイライナーは、月
経期間中または他の月経用品と関連して使用されたと
き、比較的少ない液体の保持が要求される。しかし、そ
の種の製品であるということは可成り長時間に亘り装着
されることを意味しており、その製品が液体デポジツト
間で乾燥が可能であることが望ましい。上記の出願に記
載されているように、これは製品が、その総体的空気透
過性を少なくとも最小値に保持することと関連して、衣
類対面サイド上に撥水性、空気透過性バリヤーを有する
ようにデザインすることにより達成される。「通気性
（breathable）」バリヤーは知られており、かつ示唆さ
れているが、この製品を総体的通気性を提供するように
最初にデザインし、その点に関し、この性質を有する製
品におけるこのパラメータの重要性が最初に認識された
のは本発明者等によつてであると信じられる。
製品の使用条件が、そのためにデザインされた、すなわ
ち体液の小容量デポジツトを生ずる場合に、上記製品は
有効に機能する。不幸にも時々、装着者はパンテイライ
ナーの幾分狭い領域に集中した、異常に大量の液体の排
出を経験する。これらの場合には、パンテイライナーは
その機能の遂行を、この種の液体デポジツトが吸収性層
を経由して透過性カバーの身体対面サイドから直接通過
し、次いで通気性バリヤーを経由して下着に達するとい
う点で失敗する。
従つて、そこには通気性パンテイライナーの他の所望特
性を犠性にすることなく、異常な大量蓄積条件下での透
過の問題に取り組む必要性が存する。
本発明の教示によれば、パンテイライナーは、通気性の
所望特性を犠性にすることなく、異常に大量の液体蓄積
下での透過を最小とするための手段を備えている。
特に提供されるのは体液吸収用製品であり、これは身体
に最も近い側の第１吸収性層および衣類と対面する側の
第２吸収性層を包含し、前記両層はその間に液体の流れ
阻止手段を備えており、これは身体側吸収性層から衣類
側吸収性層への液体の通過を阻止し、その代わりに液体
を身体側吸収性層内で横方向に向けようとするものであ
る。可成りの量の液体が蓄積され、かつ身体側吸収性層
内で横方向に分布された後にのみ、液体は流れ阻止層を
通過し、かつ衣類側吸収性層内へ流入することになる。
阻止手段は、疎水性繊維から成るウエブの１以上のプラ
イを含んで構成され、このウエブはライジング・カラム
透過（RCST）値（Rising Column Strike Through Valu
e）として、水で少なくも10インチを有している。好ま
しいのはRCST値が水で少なくとも12インチを示すことで
ある。更に、製品を通気可能に保持し、かつ衣類側吸収
性層を利用するために、阻止手段はまた、本明細書中で
説明するフレイジア・エア・パーメオメータ（Frazier
Air Permeometer）で測定したとき、少なくとも20ft3/f
t2/分、そして好ましくは少なくとも約40ft3/ft2/分の
空気透過率を有しなければならない。
本発明は、添付図面と共に下記の記載を考察することに
より最も良く理解されるであろう。
第１図〜第５図は、斜視図、平面図および断面図におい
て、本発明の教示を取り入れたパンテイライナー10を示
している。第２図および第３図中にそれぞれ最も良く示
されるように、パンテイライナーは身体面サイド12およ
び衣類面サイド14を備えている。ライナーの外方の身体
対面サイドは外面カバー18から成つており、これは体液
を吸収および保持可能であつてもよいし、あるいは不可
能であつてもよい。しかし、如何なる場合にも、この種
体液を透過し得るものである。ライナー10の身体対面サ
イドの最外層には、押圧した領域から成る美的な楽しい
パターンが設けられており、これはカバー18を貫通し、
また１以上の芯材料プライ16を貫通していてもよい。
外面カバー18は生理用ナプキンのためのカバーとして用
いられる如何なる典型的液体透過性材料、たとえばガー
ゼあるいは、たとえば不織材料であつて、エム・アール
・フエキラス（M.R.Fechillas）の米国特許3,554,788号
（1971年１月12日）中に記載されるようなものであつて
もよく、この材料はトイレに流すことができるという付
加的な利点、すなわち水洗トイレにおいて分散させ、か
つ水に流してしまうことにより廃棄可能であるという利
点を有している。
外面カバーはまた、低密度高吸収性の熱接着された生地
であつて、吸収性繊維とステーブル長さのポリエステル
／ポリエチレン複合繊維との混合物からなるものであつ
てもよい。吸収性繊維は好ましくは木材のパイプまたは
その他のセルロース系材料であつて、これらは吸収性を
高めるための処理をしてあるものでもよい。複合繊維は
ポリエチレンの鞘により取り囲まれているポリエステル
芯から構成される繊維である。
好ましいのは、複合繊維が高密度ポリエチレン、すなわ
ち線状ポリエチレンを利用していることであり、このポ
リエチレンは密度少なくとも0.94そして、メルトインデ
ツクス（パラメータ190℃および2160グラムを用い、AST
MD−1238E法により測定したとき）１以上、好ましくは
約10以上、そしてより好ましくは約20乃至50を有するも
のである。この繊維は約40乃至60重量％、好ましくは約
45乃至55重量％のポリエステルおよび残部ポリエチレン
から構成されている。この種の繊維は１乃至約６デニー
ルで使用され、かつ約1/2インチ（1.27cm）乃至約３か
ら４インチ（7.62から10.16cm）の長さを有していれば
よい。
好ましいのは、生地が木材パルプと、その間にサンドイ
ツチされた複合繊維との混合物を有する熱溶融性繊維か
ら成る外面層を含んで成ることである。この種外面層は
複合繊維あるいは実際に凡ゆる熱溶融性材料、たとえば
ポリプロピレン繊維から成つていればよい。この生地
は、本質的にゼロ圧力下でこれに対し熱を加えることに
より安定化され、それにより繊維の結着性を破壊するこ
となく加熱接着が生じ、そして生地に関し低密度が維持
される。典型的に、この種生地の嵩密度は約0.15グラム
／立方センチメートルである。
好ましい実施態様において、外面カバー18はヒートシー
ル可能な成分、たとえばポリプロピレンまたはポリエチ
レンの十分な量を含有しているので、外面カバー18を裏
打ち20にシールすることができて製品10を完全に封入す
る。これに関連して、裏打ち20は凡ゆるヒートシール可
能な、比較的開放された生地であればよく、そしてこれ
は外面カバー18と協働してライナーの残りのエレメント
を含有するための主な機能を有している。一つの特に有
用な裏打ち材料は２層からなり、その最初のものはポリ
エステル、他方はカバー材料18と関連して説明された複
合繊維から成るものである。この生地は、ポリエステル
繊維の層を移動スクリーン上に堆積させ、そしてそれを
覆つて複合繊維を置くことにより製造することができ
る。この生地は、エフ・ジエー・エヴアンス（F.J.Evan
s）の米国特許3,485,706号（公告日:1969年12月23日）
に記載されたのと同様な方法を利用してこれらの繊維を
絡み合わせることによりその結着性を得ることができ
る。この方法は、それを貫通する小孔から成る規則的パ
ターンを有する生地であつて、本発明の通気性パンテイ
ライナーにおいて裏打ち材料として使用するのに特に適
切であるものを製造するのに適合している。簡略化のた
め、複合繊維のシール特性を要しない場合には、裏打ち
はポリエステル繊維のみからなつてもよい。
外面カバー18および裏打ちはシール可能材料を含んでお
り、そしてヒートシールにより共にシールするのが好ま
しいが、それが本質的なものではないことが理解されよ
う。たとえば、裏打ちおよびカバーはセルロース系繊維
のみから成つていてもよく、そしてこれらは接着剤、け
ん縮またはそれらの組合わせを利用して共にシールして
もよい。
裏打ち層20の外面上１以上の領域を覆つているのは接着
剤層22であり、これはパンテイライナーを装着者の下着
の股部に接着させるための感圧接着剤を含んで成る。第
３図中に最も良く示されているように、この種の領域は
２箇所の縦方向に延びる感圧接着剤の帯を構成してい
る。もつとも、当業者にはこれら接着剤領域の数および
形状に関しては多くの変形の可能であることが理解され
るであろう。感圧接着剤は、たとえば水性感圧接着剤、
たとえばビニルアセテート−２エチルヘキシルアクリレ
ート共重合体であつて、一般に粘着付与剤、たとえばエ
チレンアミンと組み合わせて使用されるものを含む、こ
の目的に適した既に知られた如何なる組成物であつても
よい。或いはこの接着剤はホツトメルト接着剤、たとえ
ばスチレンおよびブタジエン／スチレン共重合体により
例示されるブロツク共重合体からなつていてもよい。接
着剤領域はまた、両面接着剤エレメントからなつていて
もよい。
第１、第４および第５図に最も良く示されているよう
に、接着剤領域22は剥離ストリツプ24に保護されてい
て、使用に先立つ望ましくない接着を回避する。剥離ス
トリツプ24に凡ゆる適切なシート状材料から成つていて
もよく、これは接着剤領域22に対して十分な靭性をもつ
て接着してこれを適所に維持するが、パンテイライナー
10を使用すべきときは容易に除去することができる。特
に有用な材料は半漂白クラフト紙であり、その接着剤接
触側はシリコーン塗布されて使用直前に接着剤からの容
易な除去をもたらす。
本発明の教示によれば、カバー18および裏打ち20間に存
在しているのは、第４および第５図において最も良く示
されているように、芯16である。芯16は、身体側吸収性
層28および衣類側吸収性層30間にサンドイツチされた液
阻止手段26を具備する。身体側吸収性層28、衣類側吸収
性層30および液阻止手段26は、それぞれ添付図面中の具
体的実施態様において、単一プライとして示されている
が、本発明の教示に合致すれば、多数のプライを備える
これらの層を有することも本発明の意図内にあることが
理解されるであろう。
吸収性層28および30はこれら製品の特質を有するものに
おいて、吸収体として知られ、かつ利用される数多くの
材料からなつていてもよく、そしてたとえば、木材パル
プ、レーヨンまたはその他のセルロース系材料から成る
繊維状ウエブ、ならびに合成繊維あるいはフオーム材
料、たとえばポリエステル繊維またはポリウレタンフオ
ームを含んでいてもよい。これらの層はまた、上記の混
合物であつてもよいし、更にまた、当該技術分野におい
て示唆されるように、吸収性強化物質、たとえばヒドロ
コロイド物質（hydrocolloidals）または超吸収性物質
を含んでいてもよい。
層28および30に関して適切な材料は、ジー・ジエー・リ
ロイア他（G.J.Liloia,et al.）の米国特許第3,663,238
号（1972年５月16日）中に列挙されている。その中に記
載されているのは、軟質でカサ高い不織布であるが、こ
れは比較的長い（約2.9cm）レーヨン繊維約25重量％お
よび短い（約0.2cm）木材パルプ繊維約75重量％から成
る混合物からなり、またこれらは乾燥基準で繊維重量の
約１乃至約30重量％の量で存在する水分散性バインダー
を用いて接着により安定化されている。適当なバインダ
ーは、自己硬化性ラテツクスタイプ、ウレタンタイプあ
るいは他の類似バインダーである。
層28および30に関する他の適切な吸収性材料は、カバー
18に関連して上記した同じポリエステル／ポリエチレン
複合繊維および木材パルプ熱接着生地である。
更に他の適切な吸収性材料は、木材パルプ繊維およびバ
インダーから成る単純な接着ウエブである。たとえば、
このように有用な材料は木材パルプ繊維80重量％および
バインダー20重量％を含むウエブであり、そして密度0.
072g/ccおよび基本重量約2.5オンス／平方ヤードを有し
ている。このバインダーは上に述べたような種類のもの
であればよく、適当なバインダーはポリビニルアセテー
トとポリアクリレートとの混合物である。
本発明によれば、流れ阻止手段、すなわち層26は身体側
吸収性層28と衣類側吸収性層30との間に設けられてい
る。この流れ阻止手段の機能は、製品の比較的狭い領域
に突然に生じた多量の体液が、身体側吸収性層を通して
衣類側吸収性層に妨げられずに流入し、バリヤーシステ
ム（通気性層32,34）に過度な負担を与え、それによつ
て装着者の下着が汚染されるのを妨げるということであ
る。
流れ阻止手段26の存在のために、このような液体の突然
の急増による身体側から衣類側へ流れは妨げられ、そし
てこれは横方向へ向けられ、かつ身体側吸収性層28内に
分散される。他方、流れ阻止手段26はそれを経由する流
体の流れを本質的に許容せねばならず、これよつて蒸気
の形態の流体は製品を通過し、その結果製品は、装着し
ている間に迅速に乾燥可能となる。更に、身体側吸収性
層が過重になつたとすれば、むしろ重要なのは、流れ阻
止手段を経由してこの種液体を移動させ、かつこの種液
体を衣類側吸収性層30内に保持する能力を有することで
ある。
これらの機能は、ライジング・カラム透過値として、水
で少なくとも10インチ、そして好ましくは水で少なくと
も12インチを有する疎水性繊維を含んで成る層のような
流れ阻止手段を提供することにより供し得ることが見出
された。更に、流れ阻止手段として使用される層はフレ
イジア空気透過率少なくとも20ft3/ft2/分、好ましくは
少なくとも約40ft3/ft2/分を有しなければならない。
繊維状層の疎水性特徴というのは、その上では液体が展
延することなく、そしてそれが接触角約50゜以上を有す
ることにより特徴づけられる、当該技術分野において使
用される術語を意味する。接触角というのは、下記２つ
の界面の通常の接合に際して、水／空気界面および水／
固体界面間のなす水滴内の角度である。接触角は、当該
技術分野で知られるいずれの手順によつても、たとえば
エイ・アダムソン（A.Adamson）による「表面の物理化
学（Physical Chemistry of Surfaces）」第２版、1967
年に詳細に記載される手順を利用して測定することがで
きる。疎水性は、固有に疎水性である重合体を使用して
繊維状ウエブ、たとえばポリプロピレン繊維等を形成す
ることにより達成し得ることが理解されよう。或いは親
水性繊維またはそれらから作られたウエブも、それらを
処理して疎水性にしてあれば、たとえば撥水性処理テイ
シユーウエブとしてあれば使用可能である。両タイプの
ウエブとも本発明の製品において、流れ阻止手段として
使用することができる。
使用されるウエブは液体の流れを阻止する能力を有しな
ければならず、そしてこの特徴はウエブがライジング・
カラム透過値として水で少なくとも10インチ、そして好
ましくは水で少なくとも12インチを有することにより定
量化される。ライジング・カラム透過値は、生地または
層の液体の透過に対する抵抗を定量化する試験により得
られる。本明細書中で利用されるように、この試験は内
径２インチを有し、その頂部および底部が開放される垂
直に装架された透明なプラスチツク・チユーブを利用し
て行われる。その底部はフランジおよび試料により取り
囲まれており、試料はそれにより埋められた２インチ直
径の孔を備えるプレート上に支持され、これはフランジ
にクランプされるので、プレート内の孔は円筒の開放端
と同軸となる。用いる試料は四角で各辺は3.5インチの
寸法を有している。装置内への挿入に先立ち、試料を相
対湿度65±２％および70±２゜Fにおいて空気に対し暴
露することにより状態調整する。
このように固着した試料と共に水を、水道水源に接続し
た1/4インチ入口細管を介し、1/4インチ直径を有する入
口孔を経由して円筒内に導入する。底部の孔は円筒の底
部から1.0インチの個所に設ける。水は円筒を満たすの
に十分な速度、11.5±0.5インチ／分の割合で導入す
る。試料の底部を観察し、そして試料を透過した水の第
１滴が観察されたとき、円筒内の水のレベルを水のイン
チにおいて「ライジング・カラム透過値」として記録す
る。
使用されるウエブはまた、製品を通気性とするため、な
らびに身体側吸収性層が液体により過度に充填されたと
き、液体を身体側吸収性層から衣類側吸収性層へ通過さ
せるためにある程度の透過性を有していなければならな
い。従つて、このウエブはメリーランド州、ギヤザース
バーグのフレイジア・プレシジヨン・インストルメント
・カンパニー・インコーポレーテツド（Frazier Precis
ion Instrument Company Inc.）より販売されている
「フレイジア・エア・パーメオメータ」型式No.608によ
り測定されたとき、空気透過率少なくとも20ft3/ft2/
分、そして好ましくは少なくとも約40ft3/ft2/分を有す
るべきである。この装置は、試料領域の１平方フイート
当たり、試料を横切る水の1/2インチの圧力低下を発生
させるのに必要な空気の流量を立方ft/分で測定する。
当業者には、多くの異なつたタイプのウエブまたは層を
調製し得ること、そしてこの種の層を調製して本明細書
中で述べた所定の特性に合致させるとき、それらは本発
明の教示に従つて利用可能であることは理解されるであ
ろう。
流れ阻止手段として使用するのに特に適切な材料は１プ
ライ以上のテイシユーペーパーであつて、これは化学薬
品を適用することにより処理され、これがテイシユー
に、流れに対する所要の抵抗性および疎水性を付与す
る。
好ましいのは、未処理の各プライが水素結合により適所
に保持されるセルロース繊維を備えていることである。
基本重量は約0.2乃至約1.0オンス／平方ヤード、そして
更に好ましいのは約0.5乃至約0.75である。このテイシ
ユーはまた、所要強度を有して製品製造中にその結着性
を維持すべきである。
テイシユーは十分な撥水処理剤で処理して、上記した基
準に合致するようにすべきである。たとえば、ロジン、
或る種の樹脂、たとえばシエラツク、イースト・インデ
イア樹脂（East India resins）、ダナー樹脂（Danner
resins）、シイエン（sien）、シリコーン樹脂、ボルム
アルデヒドとフエノール、尿素とメラミンの縮合生成
物、尿素のエマルジヨン、不溶性脂肪酸（たとえば、ベ
ヘン酸）、アセチル化剤、たとえば不活性溶媒中の無水
酢酸、シアノエチル化剤、またはジケトン（米国特許第
2,627,477号参照）あるいはポリケトンまたはポリケト
ンの共重合体を包含する何種類かのこの種撥水処理剤が
入手可能である。特に有用な処理は、デラウエア州、ウ
イルミントンのハーキユリーズ・インコーポレーテツド
（Hercules Inc.）から得られ、かつ「アクアペル（Aqu
apel）」の名の下で上記会社から販売されている撥水性
物質の使用により達成される。この撥水剤は炭素数16乃
至18のアルキルケトン二量体の混合物から成る。この処
理はテイシユーを、前記撥水剤を含有する水性浴を通過
させることにより行えばよい。助剤もまた浴中に、工程
を容易とし、活性化合物を安定させ、あるいは所望によ
り美的目的に関し、撥水性テイシユーを着色するため
に、助剤を浴中に加えてもよい。この種の助剤には、た
とえばpH安定剤、消泡剤、顔料および着色安定剤等が包
含される。
本発明の流れ阻止層として使用するのに有用な他の材料
は、融着により互いに保持されている合成疎水性ポリマ
ー繊維から成るウエブである。この種のウエブは、隣接
繊維間の接触点において繊維を溶融するように、この種
繊維の絡み合つた素材を加熱することにより調製しても
よい。或いはウエブは繊維を押し出すときに、繊維を依
然として少なくとも部分的には可塑性としながらウエブ
をランダムに形成することにより生成してもよい。この
種ウエブの製造方法の例は、米国特許第3,595,245号、
第3,704,198号および第3,825,380号に記載されている。
選択される繊維は、疎水性であるか、あるいはポリエチ
レンにより疎水性に処理可能である熱可塑性合成ポリマ
ーであるべきであり、ポリエチレンおよびポリエステル
繊維が選択される材料である。
再び第４図および第５図を参照すると、芯16と裏打ち20
との間に配置されているのは、２プライの通気性バリヤ
ー材料32である。この材料は、1982年９月24日出願の本
出願人による同時係属米国特許出願第423,389号中に記
載されるものと完全に対応し、ここにこれを参考として
引用するものとする。基本的には、この材料32は繊維状
で、蒸気透過性、そしてこれを通して体液を蒸発させな
がら、装着者の下着を体液から保護するための撥液層で
ある。材料32は水の少なくとも3.0cmの撥水度および空
気透過率少なくとも20ft3/ft2/分を有するべきである。
材料32に関する材料選択は、これら教示の範囲内で広く
変動し得るが、流れ阻止手段26と関連して説明した同一
の材料が材料32として使用するのに適している。
実施例１ 以下の実施例は本発明の教示の効果を例示するものであ
る。
第１図乃至第５図に示した一般的形態および形状を有す
るパンテイライナーの第１のシリーズを調製する。製品
は長さ5.5インチ（14.0cm）、幅2.2インチ（5.6cm）、
最小値1.85インチ（4.7cm）、および最大厚さ0.21イン
チ（0.533cm）を有している。この製品は全重量2.47グ
ラムを有する。ライナーの身体面サイドは外面カバーを
備えており、これは熱接着吸収性生地から構成され、こ
のものは全体で木材パルプ24重量％および複合繊維76重
量％から成り、ポリエステル芯および高密度ポリエチレ
ン鞘を備えている。複合繊維はステーブル長さ3.81cmお
よび3.0デニールを有する。これらの材料は、複合繊維
の２枚のベニヤ間にサンドイツチされたパルプ／複合繊
維混合物を提供するように分配され、これらのベニヤは
基本重量0.32オンス／平方ヤードおよび0.37オンス／平
方ヤードを有し、その重い方のベニヤは最終的に製品の
身体面サイド上に用いられる。生地は熱風を繊維に通過
させ、それにより高密度ポリエチレンを溶融し、これが
冷却を伴つてこれら繊維を接着することにより安定化さ
れる。生地全体の基本重量は15.5オンス／平方ヤードで
ある。
ライナーの吸収性芯は、身体側吸収性層および衣類側吸
収性層を含んで成り、その間に流れ阻止手段を取り囲ん
でいる。
身体側吸収性層および衣類側吸収性層の両者は接着ウエ
ブであり、木材パルプ繊維80重量％およびポリビニルア
セテート／ポリアクリレート・バインダー20重量％から
なる。各層は密度0.072g/ccおよび基本重量2.5オンス／
平方ヤードを有している。
流れ阻止手段は単一プライのウエブであり、ポリプロピ
レン繊維から成る。このウエブは米国特許第3,595,245
号、第3,704,198号および第3,825,380号中に記載される
方法に従つて調製される。このウエブはニユージヤージ
ー州、ミルフオードのジエイムズ・リヴアー・コーポレ
ーシヨン（James River Corporation）のリーゲル・デ
イヴイジヨン（Riegel Division）から得られ、基本重
量0.59オンス／平方ヤード、厚さ0.0079インチ、引張強
さ1.32ポンド／インチ／プライ、および破断伸び45.6％
を有している。
この製品は裏打ちとして、全体にポリエステル繊維であ
り、上記した小孔を設け、絡み合わせた生地を利用す
る。流れ阻止手段として利用された２プライの同一材料
から成るものを通気性バリヤーとして使用する。
ライナーの第２シリーズを、流れ阻止手段を省略するこ
とを例外として調製する。製品は30名の婦人について各
２枚のパネルにより試験し、この場合１枚のパネルには
流れ阻止手段を有するライナーを備え、そして第２のパ
ネルは流れ阻止手段を伴わないライナーを備えている。
各ライナーは、パネリストに委ねる前に、その中央上に
0.5立方センチメートルの人造月経液を蓄積させて置
く。パネリストは製品を、通常の昼間装着におけるよう
に４時間装着する。試料を収集し、そして透過を視覚的
に検査する。それらの結果を以下の第１表に示す。

上記表から理解し得るように、本発明の流れ阻止手段は
透過における失敗を顕著に阻止している。
実施例２ 本明細書中に規定する特性を備える流れ阻止手段包含の
重要性を例示するために、下記の手順を遂行した。身体
側吸収性層および衣類側吸収性層を包含し、前述の実施
例と関連して説明した材料を使用し、そしてそれらの間
に流れ阻止手段として各種の材料を備えることにより芯
を集合させる。全成分は４インチ×４インチ角に切断
し、そして各試料は流れ阻止手段のみを変化させること
により他とは変えて試験した。試料１乃至６を調製し
た。試料１において使用した流れ阻止手段は実施例１に
関連して説明したものであり、これは本発明の教示に対
応するものである。試料２において、使用した流れ阻止
手段は実施例１のそれを２プライに構成するものであ
り、そしてこれも本発明の教示に相当するものである。
試料３において、用いられる流れ阻止手段は撥水処理し
たテイシユーの３プライから構成され、その各プライは
基本重量0.63オンス／平方ヤードを有する未処理のクレ
ープしたテイシユーとハーキユリーズ・ケミカル・カン
パニーにより「アクアペル360XC」として販売される撥
水性物質を含む水性浴中で処理されたものとから調製さ
れる。試料３もまた、本発明の教示と一致するものであ
る。試料４において、用いられた流れ阻止手段は溶融ブ
ローしたポリプロピレン・ウエブの１プライから構成さ
れ、これは界面活性剤を用いて親水性としたものであ
る。この材料は本発明の教示とは一致しない。試料５に
おいて、流れ阻止手段は実施例４と同一の材料で24プラ
イから成つており、これも同様に本発明の教示とは一致
しない。最後に、試料６は流れ阻止手段としては凡ゆる
材料を排除している。
試験は、身体側吸収性層の外面上に人造月経液５立方セ
ンチメートルを蓄積することにより行われる。５ポンド
の重量をこの表面上に１分間配置する。
それらの層をほぐし、そして液体の分布を確認するため
視覚的に検査する。それらの結果は以下の第２表中に示
す。
理解し得るように、本発明の教示に対応する全ての流れ
阻止手段（試料１−３）は液体を身体側吸収性層内に保
持し、そして衣類側吸収性層への流れを阻止した。他
方、非対応試料（４−６）は両吸収性層内に液体の略等
量分布を生じた。

  1. 【請求項１】身体側吸収性層と、衣類側吸収性層と、そ
    の間に配置されて液体の流れが前記身体側吸収性層から
    前記衣類側吸収性層へと通過するのを阻止するための流
    れ阻止手段とを備え、前記流れ阻止手段は疎水性繊維か
    ら成るウエブ１プライ以上を備えており、また前記手段
    がライジング・カラム透過値として水で少なくも10イン
    チ、および空気透過率少なくとも20ft3/ft3−分を有す
    る体液を吸収するための製品。
