Information is recorded. At this time, in order to accurately record information without causing trouble such as crossing of recording pit rows, the irradiation position of the light beam is controlled in a direction perpendicular to the scanning direction (auto tracking, hereinafter referred to as AT Had to do so). Also,
Focus control (autofocusing, hereinafter referred to as AF) was also performed to accurately focus the light beam on the card. Therefore, the tracking signal from the recording track,
In order to obtain the focusing signal, the modulated light beam was set to have a predetermined power such that writing was not performed on the card even at the minimum level. Further, when the recorded information is reproduced, the above-mentioned recording pit row is scanned with a light beam having a constant power level at which the information is not written on the optical card.

Further, since the recording tracks on the optical card are provided in a plurality of straight lines, the above scanning is performed intermittently, and the light beam is made to stand by in a stationary state when not in operation.

In the reproducing method, an operation step of recording or reproducing information in a recording area of the recording medium while reciprocating the recording medium and the optical head, and stopping the reciprocating movement of the optical head on the medium. In the non-operation stage in which the recording or reproduction is not made to stand by in a stationary state and the non-operation stage,
This is achieved by including a step of retracting the optical head to a non-recording area on the recording medium, and including a retracting step of stopping irradiation of a light beam from the optical head in the non-recording area.
以下、図面を用いて本発明の実施例を説明する。 Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings.

In the figure, reference numeral 1 denotes an optical card, and a recording area 2 is provided in a part surrounded by a broken line.
Is provided. In this recording area, a recording layer is formed in which information is recorded due to unevenness or a change in reflectance due to irradiation with a light beam. Further, 3 is a recording track 4 formed in a plurality of straight lines in the recording area 2, 4 is a data area of a recording area where a light beam is scanned at a predetermined speed, and 5 is a track of a recording area in which a desired track is searched. The selection area 6 is a home position provided outside the recording area. The light beam is initially stationary at home position 6. When recording or reproducing, the light beam first moves in the track selection area 5 in the a direction to find a track to be recorded or reproduced. Then, the light beam scans the track data area 4 in the direction of the arrow b to perform recording or reproduction. When recording or reproduction is completed, the light beam stops in the track selection area 5. Then, by repeating this operation, a predetermined amount of data is recorded or reproduced.

Further, the horizontal axis of the figure shows the position on the track, and the vertical axis shows the optical power P. During recording, the light beam does not form recording pits in the scanning range Ew corresponding to the data area as shown in (A), and always emits light with the minimum power P WL required to obtain the tracking signal and the focusing signal. The card is illuminated. Then, according to the recording signal, it is modulated between the power P WH required for recording,
The recording pits are formed only on the part irradiated with the power P WH . Further, during reproduction, the light beam is emitted at a constant power P R where the recording pits are not formed in the scanning range E R , and the above-mentioned recording pits are read.

Therefore, when the spot of the light beam is scanned from 7 2 to 7 1 at the relative velocity V as shown in FIG. 4, if V is Φ / T or more, V is not recorded if the spot diameter is Φ. However, as described above, when the light beam is standing by in a stationary state, if this state continues for a long time, erroneous recording will occur even if the optical power is P WL or P R as described above. In order to prevent such erroneous recording, the present invention retracts the irradiation position of the light beam on the optical card outside the recording area except when recording or reproducing.

Here, 1 is an optical card as shown in FIG. 2, which is mounted on a mounting table 17 fixed to a belt 20. The belt 24 is stretched over the pulleys 19 and 18, and is moved in the direction of arrow c by the motor 21. Accordingly, the optical card 1 is also moved in the direction of c. Therefore, on the optical card, the light beam 32 emitted from the optical head 16 is scanned in the direction b in FIG. The optical head 16 is composed of a semiconductor laser 11, a collimator lens 12, a beam splitter 13, an objective lens 14, and a photodetector 15. The light beam 32 is emitted from the semiconductor laser 11 and is converged as light spots on the card 1 by the objective lens 14 as light. Also,
The reflected light of the light beam 32 from the optical card passes through the objective lens 14 again, is separated from the incident light by the beam splitter 13, and is detected by the photodetector 15. The signal detected by the photodetector 15 is sent to the signal demodulation circuit 22, the tracking control circuit 32, and the focus control circuit 24, and the focus control circuit 24 and the tracking control circuit 23 cause the objective lens 14 to move in the optical axis direction, respectively. Move in the direction perpendicular to the optical axis to perform AF and AT.

The motor 21 is controlled by a motor drive circuit 25 to move or stop the optical card. Further, the signal demodulation circuit 22, the stepping motor 28, the motor drive circuit 25, and the laser drive circuit 31 are connected to a central processing unit (CPU) 27 via an interface 26, respectively.

At this time, the light beam 32 from the semiconductor laser 11 always has the power P WL or PR shown in FIG. 3 on the optical card, and at the time of recording, the power P WH according to the recording signal inputted from the terminal C 1
Modulation is performed between and. Also, during reproduction, a reproduction signal is output from the terminal C 2 . When the operation is completed, the motor 21 is stopped, and the light beam is stopped in the track selection area with the power P WL or P R. Subsequently, the stepping motor 28 is driven under the control of the CPU 27, the optical head 16 is moved in the direction of arrow d as shown in FIG. 5, the light beam 32 is retracted from the recording area 2 on the optical card 1, and the home position is adjusted. Shion 6
Stand by in a stationary state. When the operation is started again, the above-described operation is repeated, and the light beam 32 moves from the home position 6 to the recording area 2 to perform recording or reproduction.

Further, when the light beam is out of the recording area, the semiconductor laser may be temporarily stopped from oscillation and made to stand by. However, at this time, when the oscillation is started again, it is desirable to perform it outside the recording area. As a result, it is possible to prevent erroneous recording in the recording area due to rare occurrence of laser light intensity overshoot at the start or stop of laser oscillation.
