2. Description of the Related Art In an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine or a printer, a developing roller of a developing device has a magnet roll fixed or rotating therein and an outer peripheral surface thereof at a constant speed with respect to a rotating direction of an image carrier. It has a cylindrical hollow sleeve that rotates in the forward or reverse direction. A magnetic brush is formed on the sleeve by using a one-component or two-component developer containing a toner and a carrier contained in a developing device. The magnetic brush conveys the toner to the image carrier by a method such as contacting or non-contacting the image carrier.

In such a structure, the developing device using the one-component developer does not use the carrier as compared with the two-component developer, so that the friction contact surface between the developers is reduced. . For this reason, the charging efficiency of the developer is deteriorated, and the time taken for the idle operation at the time of setting up the developing device is extremely long, that is, 30 minutes to 1 hour. Also, when a large number of copies that consume a large amount of developer are copied, the amount of uncharged developer that is replenished becomes larger than the amount that charges the developer, so toner is gradually scattered around the characters and lines. It occurs and the resolution is lowered.

A stirring arm 10 for stirring and supplying the developer 2 is provided in the casing 3. The stirring arm 10 is rotating in the direction of the arrow D about the rotation shaft 11, and stirs the developer 2 along the wall surface 12 formed in the lower part of the casing 3 in an arc shape so as to move in the width direction of the developing roller 6. On the other hand, the developer 2 is being sent.

In front of the doctor blade 9 (on the right side in the figure), a surface member 13 is curved along the width direction of the sleeve 7 so as to face a part of the peripheral surface of the sleeve 7 and to be spaced apart from the peripheral surface. Is fixed to the wall surface of the casing 3, and has an opening 14 bent toward the outside of the sleeve at the inlet of its tip. The developer 2 fed by the stirring arm 10 enters through the opening 14 and moves between the sleeve 7 and the surface member 13 by the rotation of the sleeve 7 and the magnetic force lines of the magnet roll 8. At this time, the developer 2 is conveyed so as to be rubbed by the surface member 13. After that, the developer 2 is conveyed to the photosensitive drum 4 with the thickness of the magnetic brush regulated by the doctor blade 9. The surface member 13 is preferably a non-magnetic stainless member,
Other materials such as aluminum and plastic may be used. The material of the surface member 13 may be any material that can frictionally charge the developer to be used.

In such a structure, the developer 2 stored in the casing 3 is developed by the agitating arm 10 which rotates about the rotating shaft 11 in the direction of the arrow D.
Is conveyed in the direction. Next, the developer 2 is attracted onto the sleeve 7 rotating in the arrow B direction by the magnetic field of the magnet roll 8 rotating in the arrow C direction, and forms a magnetic brush in the casing 3. This magnetic brush has an opening 1 in the face member 13.
4 is contracted between the surface member 13 and the sleeve 7, and the magnetic brush is rubbed between the abdomen of the surface member 13 and the sleeve 7 by the rotation of the sleeve 7. Pass through. By increasing the frictional contact surface with the developer 2 in this way, the charging efficiency due to the friction of the developer 2 is increased, and the developer 2 can be charged in a short time. Next, the magnetic brush is regulated to a constant thickness by a doctor blade and sent to the photosensitive drum 4. After that, a toner image is formed on the photosensitive drum 4 by a well-known electrophotographic process, and an image is formed on the transfer material.

As a result of the above experiment, in the comparative example, that is, in the conventional setting up of the initial installation of the apparatus main body, the developer is sufficiently charged so that the developer is not scattered around the characters or lines on the transfer material. Time to get
Although it took a long time, in both cases of Experimental Examples 1 and 2, the developer was sufficiently charged within 1 to 2 minutes after the power of the apparatus main body was turned on and the idle operation of the developing apparatus was started. An image could be obtained on the transfer material. Further, even when a large number of sheets were copied, the charge on the developer was not reduced, and a copy image with high sharpness was obtained.

The distance between SE of the surface member 13 of Experimental Example 1 and the distance between SI of the surface member 15 of Experimental Example 2 are optimal conditions in the above experimental conditions, but this distance is between SB and the sleeve 7 in the casing 3. The optimum conditions change in relation to the thickness of the magnetic brush formed above. The particularly preferable conditions for the surface members 13 and 15 include, but are not limited to, SE
The distance between SI and SI is larger than the distance between SB and shorter than the thickness of the magnetic brush on the sleeve 7 formed in the casing 3. This is because when SE and SI are shorter than SB, the amount of developer taken in between the sleeve 7 and the surface member 13 or 15 increases, so that frictional resistance increases and torque is generated in the rotation of the sleeve 7 to develop. The device is adversely affected. Further, when the distance between SE and SI is longer than the thickness of the magnetic brush formed in the casing 3, the magnetic brush cannot be taken in so as to contract between the sleeve 7 and the abdomen of the surface member 13 or 15. Therefore, the effect of using the surface member is lost. Also, the surface member 1
The lengths of the surfaces of the sleeves 3 and 15 that face the sleeve circumferential surface need only ensure the minimum opening required for the developer 2 to be conveyed onto the sleeve. The effect of charging the battery becomes smaller. Further, by bending or bending the tip end of the surface member 13 toward the outside of the sleeve, the developer is easily taken in between the sleeve 7 and the surface member 13 and is conveyed onto the sleeve 7.

In the examples, the one-component type developer was used, but the same effect could be obtained by using the two-component type developer. Further, although the one whose surface has been shot blasted is used, an untreated sleeve may be used.

According to the developing device of the present invention, the time required for charging the developer at the time of initial installation of the main body of the device is greatly shortened, and at the same time, even if a large number of sheets are continuously copied, the periphery of characters or lines is There was no toner scattering, and a clear copy image could always be obtained.
