Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.第1の光ファイバ及び第2の光ファイバを含み、各ファイバが主軸と共通溶 融長さとを有するような溶融光学カップラの製造に際して溶融に先立って使用す るために、偏光維持光ファイバのいずれかの主軸を確定する装置において、a. 光を発射する手段と; b.光発射手段に結合し、第1の光ファイバ及び第2の光ファイバのうち選択さ れた一方のファイバの第1の端部に光を集束する手段と;c.共通溶融長さを形 成する剥取り且つ洗浄したファイバに、第1の光ファイバ及び第2の光ファイバ のうち選択された一方のファイバに対するDC変調信号及びAC変調信号から成 る外部ストレスを加える手段と;d.変調中、第1の光ファイバ及び第2の光フ ァイバのうち選択された一方のファイバを共通良さのところで回転させる手段と ;e.選択されたファイバの第2の端部から出射する光をコリメートする手段と f.コリメートされた光を解析する手段と;g.解析手段に精合するパワーを検 出する手段と;h.パワー検出手段からの零出力を検出することにより、選択さ れたファイバの主軸が外部から加わるストレスの方向に整列される時点を確定す る手段とを具備する装置。 2.外部ストレスを加える手段は、 a.直流電流を供給されて、選択されたファイバに当接しているロッドを押すソ レノイドと; b.選択されたファイバの反対側に当接し、電気的に変調されて、ソレノイドと 協動して選択されたファイバにACストレスを加える圧電(PZT)素子とを具 備する請求項1記載の装置。 3.選択されたファイバを回転させる手段は第1及び第2のステッパモータを具 備する晴求項2記載の装置。 4.パワーを検出する手段は光検出器を具備する請求項3記載の装置。 5.ステッパモータはコンピュータの制御の下に動作される請求項4記載の装置 。 6.ソレノイドはコンピュータの制御の下に動作される請求項5記載の装置。 7.光を発射する手段は超放射ダイオード(SRD)を具備する請求項6記載の 装置。 8.それぞれが主軸を有する第1の光ファイバ及び第2の光ファイバを含む溶融 光学カッブラの製造に際して溶融に先立って使用するための光ファイバ偏光維持 方法において、 a.光を発射する過程と; b.第1の光ファイバ及び第2の光ファイバのうち選択された一方のファイバの 第1の端部に集束する過程と; c.節1の光ファイバ及び第2の光ファイバのうち選択された一方のファイバに 、DC変調信号及びAC変調信号から成る外部ストレスを加える過程と;d.変 調中、第1の光ファイバ及び第2の光ファイバのうち選択された一方のファイバ を回転させる過程と; e.選択されたファイバの第2の端部から出射する光をコリメートする過程とf .コリメートされた光を解析する過程と;g.解析手段に辛苦合するパワーを検 出する過程と;h.パワー検出手段からの零出力を検出することにより、選択さ れたファイバの主軸が外部から加わるストレスの方向に整列される時点を確定す る過程とから成る方法。 9.外部ストレスを加える過程は、 a.選択されたファイバに当接するソレノイドを変調することと;b.選択され たファイバの反対側に当接する圧電(PZT)素子を変調して、ソレノイドと協 動して選択されたファイバにACストレスを加えることとをさらに含む請求項8 記載の方法。 10.選択されたファイバを回転させる過程は、第1及び第2のステッパモータ を動作させることをさらに含む請求項9記載の方法。 11.パワーを検出する過程は光検出器を動作させることをさらに含む請求項1 0記載の方法。 12.ステッパモータはコンピュータの制御の下に動作される請求項11記載の 方法。 13.ソレノイドはコンピュータの制御の下に動作される請求項12記載の方法 。 I4.光を発射する過程は、選択されたファイバを通して光を発射するために超 発射ダイオード(SRD)を動作させることを含む請求項13記載の方法。 15.第1の光ファイバ及び第2の光ファイバのうち第2のファイバを第1の選 択されたファイバの処理後に選択し、第2の選択されたファイバを第1の選択さ れた光ファイバに隣接して取付けて、請求項8記載の方法により処理する請求項 8記載の方法。
