Abstract

PURPOSE:To fill much more ink by a method wherein the interior gas pressure of a cartridge can be kept negative at all times without using foam-like material by providing a negative pressure generating part in the cartridge. CONSTITUTION:The ink jet cartridge concerned has an tank 1 and a printing head 3, through which ink 4 is delivered from the tank 1 and, at the same time, is equipped with a negative pressure generating part 2 consisting of an A pressure regulating chamber 6 and a B pressure regulating chamber 7. The negative pressure generating part 2 is isolated from the tank 1 by anti-ink permeation wall, which is made of capillary force-generating member so as not for the respective pressure regulating chambers 6 and 7 to be covered with the ink no matter what kind of posture the ink jet cartridge takes. At the bottom face of each of the respective pressure regulating chambers 6 and 7, filter, which is permeable to gas and inpermeable to liquid, such as GORE-TEX or the like mounted. Further, the pressure regulating chamber has an enclosed structure, within which a small amount of liquid 8 such as pure water or the like and a very small amount of air bubble 9 left are sealed.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An ink jet cartridge of the present invention is an ink jet cartridge in which an ink tank and a print head for ejecting ink in the ink tank are integrally attached to a recording apparatus, and the upper surface is in contact with gas inside the ink tank. And a first pressure adjusting chamber in which a liquid is confined inside a small chamber provided with a filter that allows gas to pass through but does not allow liquid to pass through the lower surface in contact with gas outside the ink tank; and outside the ink tank. Second pressure adjustment in which a small amount of gas is left inside a small chamber in which a gas is passed but a liquid is not passed through the upper surface in contact with the gas and the lower surface in contact with the gas inside the ink tank. And a first chamber and an ink tank. The second pressure adjusting chamber and the second pressure adjusting chamber are connected by a member that generates a capillary force. Further, in this configuration, when the ink jet cartridge is placed in a state rotated by 90 degrees from the normal state. Also, one of the gases left inside each of the two pressure adjusting chambers is on the filter surface in contact with the gas inside the ink tank, and the other is on the filter surface in contact with the gas outside the ink tank. The facing surface of the adjustment chamber, excluding the filter surface, has a tapered shape.

FIG. 3 is a diagram for explaining the function of the pressure adjusting chamber 6 by taking the A pressure adjusting chamber 6 as an example. As shown in FIG. 3A, the gas pressure applied around the A pressure adjusting chamber 6 is the internal gas pressure Pt of the ink tank 1, the external gas pressure Pa of the ink tank 1, and the A pressure adjusting chamber 6 inside. If the pressure ρgh (ρ: density of liquid 8, g: gravitational acceleration, h: height of liquid 8) due to the weight of the liquid 8 is set, Pa = Pt + ρgh on the surface of the filter 11. Therefore, when the ink is held, the ink is held in a negative pressure state that satisfies Pt ≧ Pa−ρgh rather than Pa ≦ Pt + ρgh. Here, the ink tank 1
If the volume of the internal pressure of the A pressure adjusting chamber 6 does not change when the pressure of the internal gas becomes greater than the pressure of the external gas of the ink tank 1, the state of FIG. No gas is delivered. Further, when the ink is ejected, the pressure of the gas inside the ink tank 1 decreases due to consumption of the ink 4, and Pa> Pt + ρgh, that is, Pt.
When <Pa-ρgh, the gas is delivered as shown in FIG. 3 (b), and the excessive negative pressure is eliminated.

As described above, the A pressure adjusting chamber 6 functions as a valve that allows gas to flow in only one direction. On the other hand, the B pressure adjusting chamber 7 also operates in the same manner as the A pressure adjusting chamber 6, but the direction in which the A pressure adjusting chamber 6 and the gas pass is opposite.

FIG. 4 shows a negative pressure generating portion 2 when ejecting ink.
It is a figure which shows the state of. When the ink is held, the pressure of the internal gas of the ink tank 1 is maintained at a negative pressure within a value obtained by subtracting the pressure of the liquid 8 in the A pressure adjusting chamber 6 from the pressure of the external gas of the ink tank 1. 4 is retained. As shown in FIG. 4A, when ink is ejected,
The ink 4 in the ink tank 1 is consumed by being ejected from the print head 3, and the pressure of the gas inside the ink tank 1 decreases. That pressure is the ink tank 1
4 becomes smaller than the value obtained by subtracting the pressure due to the weight of the liquid 8 in the A pressure adjustment chamber 6 from the pressure of the external gas of FIG.
As shown in (b), the air bubbles 9 in the A pressure adjusting chamber 6 are sent into the ink tank 1, and at the same time, the A pressure adjusting chamber 6
The amount of the external gas corresponding to the amount of the bubbles 9 sent into the ink tank 1 is sent into the A pressure adjusting chamber 6. By repeating this operation, a constant negative pressure is maintained. At this time, in the B pressure adjusting chamber 7, the state in which the pressure is applied is opposite to that in the A pressure adjusting chamber 6, so that the gas is not delivered.

FIG. 5 is a diagram showing a state of the negative pressure generating portion 2 when the internal gas of the ink tank 1 is expanded. The internal gas of the ink tank 1 expands in volume due to a change in the operating environment such as a change in temperature or an increase in altitude, and the pressure of the internal gas in the ink tank 1 increases. That pressure is the ink tank 1
5 becomes larger than the value obtained by adding the pressure due to the own weight of the liquid 8 in the A pressure adjusting chamber 6 from the pressure of the external gas of FIG.
As shown in (b), the bubbles 9 in the B pressure adjusting chamber 7 are discharged to the outside of the ink tank 1, and at the same time, the amount of the bubbles 9 discharged from the B pressure adjusting chamber 7 to the outside of the ink tank 1 is equal to that of the ink tank 1. The internal gas of B is sent into the B pressure adjusting chamber 7. By repeating this operation, the volume expansion of the internal gas of the ink tank 1 is canceled and the state where the ink is held is restored. At this time, in the A pressure adjusting chamber 6, the state in which the pressure is applied is opposite to that in the B pressure adjusting chamber 7, so that no gas is delivered.

In the case of the sectional shapes of the A pressure adjusting chamber 6 and the B pressure adjusting chamber 7 as shown in FIG. 1, when the cartridge is placed as shown in FIG. Both bubbles 9 in the pressure adjusting chamber 7 are
It may come into contact only with the gas inside. In that case, even if the gas inside the ink tank 1 expands in volume, the gas inside the ink tank 1 is not released to the outside of the ink tank 1 and ink leaks from the print head 3.

Therefore, the A pressure adjusting chamber 16 as shown in FIG.
In the B pressure adjusting chamber 17, the cartridge is set in FIG.
Even when placed as in (b), one of the bubbles 9 in the A pressure adjusting chamber 16 and the B pressure adjusting chamber 17 is always the ink tank 1

As described above, according to the present invention, since the negative pressure generating portion is provided inside the cartridge, the gas inside the cartridge can always be kept at a negative pressure without using the foam-like material. As compared with the method using the material, there is an effect that it is possible to hold more ink in the same volume.
