In order to reduce the surface electric resistance of the magnetic layer, an undercoat layer in which conductive powder such as carbon black is uniformly dispersed is provided between the magnetic layer and the substrate. (JP-A-55-84040) [Problems to be solved by the invention] However, the carbon black used in the undercoat layer is
Since it originally has a considerable amount of pores, if it is stored for a long time of, for example, 3 months or more, the lubricant in the magnetic layer migrates to the undercoat layer during this period and is stored in the pores of carbon black. However, there is a problem that the lubricant on the surface of the magnetic layer disappears and the durability is lowered.

By providing a magnetic layer containing a fatty acid ester-containing lubricant, the total content of the fatty acid ester-containing lubricant contained in the undercoat layer and the magnetic layer is 30 mg / cm 3 or more Suppresses the migration of the lubricant containing fatty acid ester to the undercoat layer and prevents the lubricant containing the fatty acid ester on the surface of the magnetic layer from disappearing even if it is stored for a long period of time, and has sufficient durability especially for long-term storage. It has been improved to.

When a lubricant containing a sufficient amount of fatty acid ester is contained in the undercoat layer and the magnetic layer,
The lubricant containing the fatty acid ester in the magnetic layer does not migrate to the undercoat layer and is not stored in the pores of the carbon black, and the lubricant containing the fatty acid ester on the surface of the magnetic layer disappears even if it is stored for a long time. In other words, the excellent lubrication effect is maintained and fully exerted for a long period of time, and the durability particularly during long-term storage is sufficiently improved.

If the specific surface area by the BET method is 300 m 2 / g or more, the amount of pores is large, and if a lubricant containing a fatty acid ester is stored in these pores, a lubricant containing a sufficient amount of fatty acid ester will be undercoated. Since it can be retained in the layer, and the migration of the lubricant containing the fatty acid ester from the magnetic layer can be suppressed well, the specific surface area by the BET method is 300 m 2 / g or more. Good The content of such carbon black is in the range of 5 to 20% by weight based on the total solid components in the undercoat layer, and the content of the lubricant containing the fatty acid ester contained together with the carbon black is set in the undercoat layer. The amount of carbon black contained in the undercoat layer is preferably in the range of 50 to 200% by weight. When the amount of this type of carbon black contained in the undercoat layer is too small, a lubricant containing a fatty acid ester is used in the undercoat layer. However, the migration of the lubricant containing the fatty acid ester from the magnetic layer cannot be sufficiently suppressed, and the surface electric resistance of the magnetic layer cannot be sufficiently reduced. On the other hand, if the amount is too large, the adhesiveness of the undercoat layer to the substrate decreases. If the amount of the fatty acid ester-containing lubricant is less than 50% by weight of carbon black, the migration of the fatty acid ester-containing lubricant from the magnetic layer can be sufficiently suppressed to improve the wear resistance of the magnetic layer. On the other hand, if it is more than 200% by weight, the ability to retain a lubricant containing a carbon black fatty acid ester is lowered, and the adhesion of the undercoat layer to the substrate is lowered to lower the durability. Further, the amount of bleed-out on the surface of the magnetic layer becomes too large, and the magnetic head is contaminated.

To prepare a coating material for the undercoat layer, which is coated on a substrate such as polyester film and dried to form a lubricant containing a fatty acid ester, and a suitable solvent such as cyclohexanone or toluene. The coating solution for the undercoat layer excluding the lubricant containing the fatty acid ester is applied to a substrate such as polyester film in advance, and the solution obtained by this dissolution is applied or sprayed on the undercoat layer formed by drying. Or by immersing the undercoat layer in this solution, the lubricant containing the fatty acid ester is later contained in the undercoat layer. It may be formed by.

た。The durability and the lubricant content of the magnetic disks obtained in each example and comparative example were examined. The durability was examined by storing the magnetic disk for 6 months, mounting it on a magnetic disk drive, measuring the time until the magnetic disk was scratched at a relative speed of 3 m / sec and a head pressure of 20 g. The lubricant content was determined from the change in weight of the obtained magnetic disk after the undercoat layer and magnetic layer were washed with n-hexane.

It takes a long time until the magnetic recording medium is obtained, which shows that the magnetic recording medium obtained by the present invention has a sufficiently improved durability, especially during long-term storage.
