Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the crosslinking degree of an olefinic resin in the form of fiber and improve the heat-resistance, abrasion resistance and flexural resistance without deteriorating other characteristics by grafting a silane to an olefinic resin, incorporating the grafted resin with an agent for suppressing the deposition of sticky material and extruding the mixture. CONSTITUTION: A silane compound is grafted to an olefinic resin such as polyethylene or polypropylene in the presence of a radical generator, the grafted resin is blended with a silanol condensation catalyst and 0.5-2.5wt.% of an agent for suppressing the deposition of sticky material and the mixture is extrusion molded to obtain a monofilament. The crosslinking degree (gel fraction) of the monofilament is increased to >=55% by treating with hot steam or in a hot water of >=50 deg.C. The crosslinking degree can be increased without deteriorating the hydrophobicity, the chemical resistance and the surface softness of the olefinic resin and the obtained resin is useful for a washing or polishing brush, a fish shelter, a filtration mesh, etc.

1. We made industrial brushes with monofilaments processed by bristles (heat set into straight lines),
Used for car washing and polishing metal plates with relatively low surface hardness. 2. After bristle processing, it is cut to a length of 5 to 50 mm and flocked to be used as floating fish reefs and algae plates for aquatic growth. 3. The monofilament is woven into a woven fabric with open eyes and used as a mesh.

In order to improve the drawbacks of the conventional monofilament made of an olefin resin, silane is cross-linked between polymer molecules. In that case, the silane cross-linked polyolefin has a large affinity with a metal (wall surface inside the extruder), and a stagnation due to delay of resin flow on the wall surface inside the machine becomes a mess and accumulates at the nozzle exit, causing yarn breakage. Therefore, by blending the eyelid suppressor, a film of the active ingredient is formed on the metal surface (wall surface in the machine), the affinity with the metal is reduced, the fluidity of the resin is improved, and the occurrence of eyelid is suppressed.

[Example] 4 parts of a cross-linking agent (silanol condensation catalyst) was blended with 100 parts of a resin obtained by grafting a silane compound with a radicalizing agent on a medium density polyethylene resin,
1.5% (wt%) of the total amount of the Meany inhibitor was added, and a thickness of 3400 denynyl (caliber 0.7 mm) uncrosslinked polyethylene monofilament was extruded with a molding machine having a temperature distribution of 140 to 155 ° C. It was molded and taken in a fold (about 5 kg) with a diameter of 3 m. It was immersed in hot water at 70 ° C. for 12 hours to obtain a crosslinked polyethylene monofilament having a degree of crosslinking (gel fraction) of 70%.

The crosslinked polyethylene monofilament of the present invention and the conventional medium density polyethylene monofilament having the same shape were produced under the same conditions and their physical properties were compared. As a result, the superior difference as shown in Table 1 was obtained. Regarding bending resistance, there was no whitening due to crazing in the bent portion, and the bending was restored to its original value with time. Despite its improved heat resistance, abrasion resistance, bending resistance, and bending rigidity, it has the flexibility of polyethylene's original surface hardness, making it a brush for cleaning vehicles and polishing copper plates, aluminum plates, etc. Even if used, it does not damage the other party, and is less softened by frictional heat. In addition, when used in fish reefs for aquatic breeding, in addition to the inherent hydrophobicity of olefinic resins, low density and light weight, bending of monofilaments due to wave forces is less likely to occur. Even when used as a filtering mesh, it is non-toxic, has excellent chemical resistance, has high heat resistance, does not relax, and has improved wear resistance, which can withstand long-term use.
