According to this, the etching apparatus is provided with a pair of carbon electrodes 2a and 2b which have substantially the same width as the aluminum foil 1 to be etched and are opposed to each other with a predetermined interval. The carbon electrodes 2a and 2b are connected to an AC power source 3 and are arranged in an electrolytic cell (not shown) filled with a suitable electrolytic solution.

By the way, if the carbon electrodes 2a and 2b are placed in the electrolytic solution in the so-called bare state, the electrolytic solution is transmitted and current leakage occurs in all directions, so that the etching efficiency for the aluminum foil is lowered. To do.

However, this still causes the leakage of the etching current from the gap between the side protector 5 and the aluminum foil 1, and if the width of the aluminum foil 1 is 500 mm, for example, 10 mm at both ends thereof is generated. The capacitance in a portion with a certain width is lower than that in the central portion. This is because the electric resistance of the electrolytic solution is smaller than the electric resistance of the aluminum foil 1.

In order to achieve the above object, the invention of claim 1 provides a pair of carbon electrodes connected to a predetermined AC power source at predetermined intervals in an electrolytic cell filled with an electrolytic solution. And the side protectors made of an electric insulating material for preventing current leakage are provided between the end portions of the carbon electrodes, and the aluminum foil is etched while inserting the aluminum foil between the carbon electrodes. The etching apparatus is characterized in that the side protector is provided with a conductor of a guide for guiding the current from the carbon electrode to the end portion side of the aluminum foil.

According to this, the current from the carbon electrode easily flows through the conductor of the guide to the end of the aluminum foil. Therefore, the current leakage from the foil edge is compensated by the current guided through the guide electrode, and the foil edge is also etched in the same manner as the foil central portion.

According to this, also in this etching apparatus, as in the above-described etching apparatus of FIG. 3, a pair of carbon electrodes 2a and 2b are provided, and rear surfaces of the back protectors 4a and 4b made of an electrically insulating material are provided. Are attached respectively, and a side protector 5 made of an electrically insulating material is provided between both side surfaces thereof. In the present invention, on the carbon electrodes 2a, 2b side of the side protector 5, conductors 7, 7 of guides for guiding the current from the carbon electrodes 2a, 2b to the foil end portion of the aluminum foil 1 are provided on the carbon electrodes 2a. Side and the carbon electrode 2b side, respectively. In this case, the conductors 7, 7 of the guide are made of the same material as the carbon electrodes 2a, 2b.

The conductors 7, 7 of this guide are made of a conductive material having an electric resistance smaller than that of the electrolytic solution, and are made of carbon in this embodiment. Further, the conductors 7, 7 of this guide are arranged so as not to be in direct conduction with the carbon electrodes 2a, 2b. By the way, if the conductors 7 and 7 of this guide and the carbon electrodes 2a and 2b are directly conducted, current concentrates too much on the edge of the foil, and rather the capacitance varies in the foil width direction. It is not preferable because the electrostatic capacity is reduced as a whole.
