Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fix optical fibers without scratching the optical fibers by pressing coated optical fibers by a pressing plate more flexible than glass and easy in plasticification deformation from the upper part thereby pressing them while causing a plasticification deformation. SOLUTION: Respective coated optical fibers 2a, 2b, 2c... of an optical fiber cord 2 are inserted into respective grooves 1a, 1b, 1c... of a V groove substrate 1 and one ends of them are pressed by a pressing plate 3 more flexible than glass and easy in plasticification deformation from the upper part. Next, when the plate 3 is subjected to plasticificationaly deformed by pressurizing the pressing plate 3 along respective fibers, the pressing plate 3 is subjected to the plasticification deformation to be formed into a waved plate shape with respect to upper surface of respective cores of the optical fiber cord 2. Thus, the pressing plate 3 can fix the respective coated optical fibers with a stable structure without being affected by the influence by the habits of optical fibers, without causing floatings of respecting fibers and also without any deformation and scrach to optical fiber.

2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, in order to attach a connector to each core of a multi-core optical fiber cord or to connect a core wire, each core is inserted into a hard V-groove substrate such as ceramic having parallel V-grooves, and an optical fiber is used. The fibers have been fixed and positioned. In the fixing, conventionally, a method of pressing an optical fiber into the V groove by using a pressing plate made of an elastic member such as a polyurethane rubber plate or a hard member such as a ceramic plate has been used.

According to the conventional method as described above, each core of the optical fiber has a "habit" due to the influence of eccentricity or distortion at the manufacturing stage, and the V groove of the substrate. Since a slight variation in accuracy is unavoidable, it is not always easy to fix each core of parallel optical fiber cords in a state where there is no "bend". Therefore, some of the cores of the optical fiber cord are liable to be lifted or misaligned, but in order to prevent this, if a pressing plate made of a hard member such as a ceramic plate is used to strongly press,
The optical fiber may be scratched. Particularly, in the optical connector, since the tip portion of the fiber is a bare fiber, the fiber is particularly likely to be scratched, and there is a possibility that an optical connection loss may occur. On the other hand, when pressing with an elastic member pressing plate such as polyurethane rubber plate, it is good to press lightly like temporary pressing, but if it is required to hold it stably for a long time such as a connector, use an optical fiber. There is a problem that the required optical characteristics cannot be maintained.

The present invention has been made in order to solve the above problems, and as a result of various investigations, a pressing plate which is softer than glass and is easy to be plastically deformed is pressed from the upper side, This has been solved by causing plastic deformation in each core of the fiber and pressing it down.
According to this method, the optical fiber is not temporary like the elastic member, and there is no fear of scratching the optical fiber like the hard member, and the optical fiber can be fixed.

1 is a partially cutaway perspective view for explaining a method of fixing a multi-core optical fiber cord according to the present invention, in which each groove 1a, 1b, 1c of a V-groove substrate 1 is shown. The cores 2a, 2b, 2c of the optical fiber cord 2 are inserted, and one end thereof is pressed from above by a pressing plate 3 which is softer than glass and is easily plastically deformed. In this case, an adhesive is applied between each wire core and the groove, but the illustration is omitted.
Next, when the pressing plate 3 is pressed along each core of the optical fiber to be plastically deformed, the pressing plate 3 is plastically deformed as shown in the end face structure of the pressing portion of FIG. The cores 2a, 2b, 2c have a corrugated plate shape on the upper surface thereof, and the optical fibers are not deformed or damaged without being affected by the "habit" of the optical fibers and without causing the floating of each core. It can be fixed with a stable structure without giving. As in the prior art, each core of the optical fiber is fixed with an adhesive at a portion in contact with each groove 1a, 1b, 1c of the V-groove substrate 1. That is, when the optical connector is constructed, first, the cores 2a, 2b, 2c of the optical fiber cord 2 are connected to the grooves 1a of the V-groove substrate 1,
1b, 1c. In this case, an adhesive is applied to the optical fiber or the V-shaped groove, and the optical fiber or V-groove is bonded and fixed afterwards so as not to lose its shape in the long term, but a pressing member is used to tightly fix both. In the present invention, since the pressing plate 3 which is softer than glass such as aluminum or copper and which is easily plastically deformed, is pressed from the upper part, and this is plastically deformed and pressed along the wire center, the adhesive is hardened and the fiber core is completely V Since a uniform pressing force is applied until the groove is bonded to the groove of the groove substrate, it is possible to manufacture a multi-core connector having excellent characteristics. It goes without saying that this method can also be applied when connecting a multi-fiber optical fiber cord.

According to the present invention, the pressing plate 3 which is softer than glass such as aluminum and copper and which is easily plastically deformed.
With a simple method of pressing from above, the cores of the optical fiber are kept stable against the grooves of the V-groove substrate without any damage to the optical fiber itself. As a result, it is possible to obtain a multi-fiber connector having excellent characteristics and to make an optical fiber connection, which is a special effect.
