Detailed description
Binocular depth cue known as stereoscopic vision
ue) medical video endoscopy system that displays images with
To provide an image with a realistic and three-dimensional quality. Stereoscopic is an object to one eye of an observer
Including the presentation of a first image of the object and a second image of the object to the other eye of the observer,
These two images are taken from different perspectives. Therefore, each of the observers
Eyes see a slightly different field of view of the same object, and the observer's mind stands them up.
Integrate into a 3D image of an object with a visual depth.
Referring to FIG. 1, a high resolution three-dimensional image of an object 24 is viewed in accordance with the present invention.
A medical video endoscope system 22 for is shown. The stereoscopic endoscope 26 is a pair
Two optical images of the elephant 24, the first (eg, left) optical image.
An image 54 and a second (eg, right) optical image 56 are created, the two images
The image is converted into signals 58,60. The transmission channel 28 is typically a stereoscopic endoscope.
26, receives signals 58, 60 from 26, processes these signals 58, 60 and processes the left image
Up to the electronic processor module 30 which produces the signal 62 and the right image signal 64
Carry. The module 30 alternately outputs the left and right image signals 62, 64 to the monitor 12
And a viewing device 31 (eg, specially designed glasses).
It is provided to the viewing system 31. The monitor 32 displays images that are alternately provided.
The alternating left and right video images corresponding to signals 62, 64 are displayed. Monitor 32
A properly-equipped observer sees the iterative alternation displayed on the monitor 32.
The three-dimensional video images of the object 24 are perceived by the left and right video images.
(In general, whether the left or right video image is displayed first
It doesn't matter, as well as whether the left or right image signal is presented to the monitor first
Note that what is done is not important. The reason for this is that the shift between left and right is
This is because it occurs repeatedly during the operation of the stem 22. Therefore, here, "left and right
In any case, it means "left and right" or "right and left". )
Instead of the monitor 32 and the viewing device 34, a viewing system
The system 31 receives the signals 62, 64 provided alternately and, for example, responds to them.
A polarized image on a screen for viewing with polarized eyewear
May include a video projector system 35 for projecting onto.
In another embodiment, the transmission channel 28 is a stereoscopic endoscope 26, such as that shown in FIG.
Directly to the viewing device 34, which can be a headset such as
Bypassing the processor module 30 and the monitor 32), or
Two video projectors that project left and right polarized images on the screen
Directly to the video projector system 35 that may be included (and therefore
Bypass the sessa module 30, monitor 32, and viewing device 34.
Pass), can be combined. In this latter example, the polarized image is
Can be viewed with polarized glasses, and can be any such as flat screen
Any type of screen can be used.
In the high resolution medical video endoscope system 22 according to the present invention, the stereoscopic endoscope 2
6 is placed at the distal end 38 of the endoscope 26, and the object 2
And a stereoscopic objective lens system 36 that produces a left optical image 54 and a right optical image 56 of FIG.
The left and right optical images 54, 56 are arranged inside the mirror 26 and close to the objective lens system 36.
Relay that transmits the light toward the distal end portion 42 of the endoscope 26 along the length of the endoscope 26.
A lens system or a fiber optic system 40. Stereoscopic endoscope 26
Also includes an image sensor 45 located substantially at the distal end 42 of the endoscope 26.
A sensing module 44 is included. This sensor 45 (for example, in module 50
Automatically) (eg, to compensate for variations in ambient light, and thus on the monitor 32).
During a time period that can be adjusted to correct the brightness variations of the video image displayed on the
Only the left and right optical images 54, 56 are sensed (typically periodically) and

The viewing device 34 allows the observer to see his first eye on the monitor.
Only the left video image displayed on the right, the second eye on the right displayed on the monitor
On the monitor 32 by allowing only the video images of
