Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the necessity of a communication cable between a mouse and a computer by transmitting information between a computer body and the mouse by an optical signal, forming the shape of the mouse like a rectangular parallelepiped and providing the mouse with an output terminal to be connected to the computer body and a ball for indicating the movement of a cursor. CONSTITUTION: A mouse body is provided with a ball part 1 for moving the position of a cursor on a computer so as to operate the mouse by fingers, switches 2 for inputting various definition signals and an output method changing switch 3 to determine whether an output from the mouse is transmitted by an optical signal or through a wire. A signal is transmitted from a transmitting part 4 to the external at a wide angle based upon the determined method. In order to prevent the interference of plural mouses, one of plural determined frequency bands is selected by a transmission frequency changing switch 5 and a signal is transmitted by the selected frequency. Consequently the necessity of a communication cable between the mouse and the computer can be eliminated and the operation range of an operator can be extremely improved.

2. Description of the Related Art A conventional mouse has a movement amount detecting section for detecting a rotation amount of a ball and transmitting a movement amount of a cursor to a transmitting section,
It has a switch unit for generating a confirmation signal at the time of position determination, and a transmission unit for transmitting the signal determined by these as an optical signal to the outside (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 5-61599).
Reference). Moreover, since the conventional mouse obtains information by rotating the ball on the desk, the mouse is operated on the table.

In the conventional cordless mouse, even when it is used on a desk near the computer body, there is only a method of transmitting information by an optical signal, so that the power supply time is limited, which hinders a long work. Come on. For this reason, there is a problem in that a conventional cord-connected mouse must be used, or a computer setting must be changed to use a device such as a thumbball attached to the computer body. Further, even when using a cordless mouse, the ball was rotated by operating the mouse on the desk, so that the mouse could not be operated unless it was on the table, and the usage environment of the mouse was limited.

According to the cordless mouse of the present invention, information is transmitted by an optical signal between the mouse and the computer main body, and in addition, an output terminal for connecting the computer main body with a rectangular parallelepiped shape is used. In addition, a ball for instructing the movement of the cursor is provided in a portion which can be operated by a finger in front of the mouse.

FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing an embodiment of the present invention. The cordless mouse shown in FIG. 1 is provided with a ball unit 1 for moving the position of a cursor of a computer so that it can be operated with a finger, and a switch 2 for inputting various confirmation signals. The mouse body is provided with an output method change switch 3, and determines whether the output from the mouse is an optical signal or a code. The signal generated by the ball unit 1 and the switch unit 2 is converted into a data format for transmission by the mouse body in the case of an optical signal according to the method determined by the output method changing switch 3, and is converted into an optical signal from the transmitting unit 4 to a wide angle outside. Be sent to.

In order to avoid interference of a plurality of mice, this signal is provided with a transmission frequency changing switch 5 for changing the transmission frequency, and one of a plurality of predetermined frequencies is selected and transmitted. The transmitted signal is received by the receiving unit 7 of the receiving apparatus shown in FIG. The receiving device has a receiving frequency changing switch 8
Is provided, and reception is possible only when the transmission frequency change switch 5 is matched. The signal received by the receiving unit 7 is reconverted into a conventional mouse signal in the receiving device and sent to the mouse terminal of the computer main body through a cable connected to the back surface of the receiving device. When the conventional code method is selected as the output method change switch 3 of the mouse, the same signal as that of the mouse having the conventional code is output. This signal is sent to the mouse terminal of the computer main body through the output terminal 6 of the mouse and the cable. The cable supplies power to the computer, the mouse and the receiving device, and also charges the mouse when connected to the mouse.

As described above, according to the present invention, an optical cable is used to communicate between a mouse and a computer, so that an intermediate cable is not required, and a ball portion for operating a cursor of a mouse is rotated by a finger. Since the operation is performed not by the desk but by the hand, there is an effect that the limitation of the operation range of the person who performs the operation is significantly improved. Also, by providing a cable connection terminal on the mouse body, it can be used in the same way as a mouse with a conventional cord, and when working near a computer on a desk, prepare another mouse with a conventional cord Alternatively, the mouse can be used without changing the setting of the computer to thumbball.
