(57)【要約】 【課題】 使用中に亀裂が発生することなく、しかもガ
スや液体の浸透流出を抑制できる電気融着継手を提供す
る。 【解決手段】 融着接合される樹脂管2の管端部も融着
されるように電熱線(発熱体)3が管端部近傍域に配設
されていることを特徴とする電気融着継手1。

Description

【発明の詳細な説明】
【0001】
【発明の属する技術分野】本発明はポリエチレンやポリ
ブテンなどの熱可塑性樹脂でできた樹脂管同士を接続す
ための電気融着継手に関する。
【0002】
【従来の技術】最近、軽量で、耐食性に優れ、可撓性が
あるため地震に強いなどの特徴を有するポリエチレンや
ポリブテン製の樹脂管がガス管や水道管に大量に用いら
れるようになってきた。
【0003】こうした樹脂管同士を接続する方法の1つ
に、電気融着継手を用いる方法がある。
【0004】図2に、従来のソケットタイプ電気融着継
手の1例の縦断面図を示す。図2で、1は電気融着継手
本体、2は樹脂管、3は電熱線、4は電極、5はストッ
パー、6はコールドゾーンを表す。
【0005】樹脂管2を電気融着継手本体1に、樹脂管
2の先端面が電気融着継手本体1の中央部に設けられた
ストッパー5にあたるまで挿入し、電気融着継手本体1
の内面近傍に設けられた電熱線3に電極4より通電し、
電熱線3近傍にある電気融着継手本体1と樹脂管2の樹
脂を溶融させ電気融着継手本体1と樹脂管2を接合し
て、樹脂管2同士は接続される。このとき電熱線3は電
気融着継手本体1の軸方向全長にわたって配設されてな
いので、電気融着継手本体1の中央部や端部には樹脂管
と融着されてないいわゆるコールドゾーン6が存在す
る。
【0006】電気融着継手で接続された樹脂管に一定圧
力でガスや水を流すと、樹脂管や継手にはクリープが起
こり、継手の中央部に存在するコールドゾーンでは樹脂
管と継手の非接合面が時間とともに開口し、その結果コ
ールドゾーンと融着部の境目に応力集中が起きて亀裂が
生じる場合がある。そのため、JIS K6774には
熱間内圧クリープ試験が電気融着継手の品質管理試験項
目に取り上げられており、高い熱間内圧クリープ強度を
有する電気融着継手が望まれている。
【0007】また、継手の中央部に存在するコールドゾ
ーンでは樹脂管と継手の非接合面の間にガスや液体が浸
入できるので、流通させたガスや液体の種類によっては
この部分から継手に浸透して外部へ流出する場合もあ
る。
【0008】熱間内圧クリープ強度を向上させる方法と
して、実開昭62ー172894号公報には、軸方向全
長にわたり継手外面に形状記憶合金からなる環状体を巻
き付ける方法が提案されている。またDu Pont社
製電気融着継手には、継手と樹脂管の融着部より継手中
央部側の外面上に樹脂を含浸した長繊維からなるFRP
を巻き付けたものも商品化されている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】しかしながら、実開昭
62ー172894号公報に記載の方法やDu Pon
t社製電気融着継手のように、継手を外面側から補強し
ても、剛性の小さい熱可塑性樹脂は内圧によって管軸方
向に伸び肉厚方向に縮まるポアソン効果が大きいので、
継手内面の変形を完全に抑えることができず、コールド
ゾーンと融着部の境目に発生する亀裂を完全には防止で
きない。
【0010】また、いずれの方法も、コールドゾーンに
おける樹脂管と継手の非接合面の間にガスや液体が浸入
できるので、ガスや液体の浸透流出の防止効果はない。
【0011】本発明はこのような問題を解決するために
なされたもので、使用中に亀裂が発生することなく、し
かもガスや液体の浸透流出を抑制できる電気融着継手を
提供することを目的とする。

【課題を解決するための手段】上記課題は、融着接合さ
れる樹脂管の管端部も融着されるように発熱体が管端部
近傍域に配設されていることを特徴とする電気融着継手
により解決される。
【0013】電気融着継手の発熱体を、融着接合される
樹脂管の管端部も融着されるように配設して融着を行え
ば、継手の中央部における樹脂管端部の非融着のコール
ドゾーンがなくなるので、クリープによる亀裂の発生を
防止できる。
【0014】また、樹脂管と継手の融着により継手の中
央部の肉厚を増大できるので、ガスや液体の浸透流出を
抑制できる。
【0015】管端部近傍域とは、発熱体の存在により加
熱溶融接続領域が管端部にまで及ぶ箇所までを意味し、
融着条件等によりその位置が異なる事は言うまでもな
い。
【0016】さらに、発熱体はニクロム線等の電熱線や
炭素繊維等の導電性、誘導加熱発熱体があり、通常は電
熱線が好ましく使われる。

【発明の実施の形態】図1に、本発明の電気融着継手の
1実施の形態の縦断面図を示す。図1の番号は図2の番
号と同じものを表す。
【0018】図2に示す電熱線3の配設を、電気融着継
手本体1のストッパー5まで延長し、さらに樹脂管2の
端面に接触するストッパー5の面近傍にも設けて融着接
合すれば、電気融着継手本体1の中心部における樹脂管
端部の非融着のコールドゾーンは生じない。したがっ
て、樹脂管と継手の非接合面が時間とともに開口して亀
裂が生じこともない。
【0019】また、電気融着継手本体1の中心部の肉厚
は、継手と樹脂管の厚みの和となりガスや液体の浸透流
出に要する時間を長くできる、すなわち浸透流出を抑制
できることになる。

【発明の効果】本発明は以上説明したように構成されて
いるので、使用中に亀裂が発生することなく、しかもガ
スや液体の浸透流出を抑制できる電気融着継手を提供で
きる。
