そして、このような断続手段24は、レンズ22とミラー23の間のレーザ光路に円板ディスク242を配置し、円板ディスク242の回転にともなうレーザ光路へのスリット241の挿脱動作により、プリズム18より全反射面に照射されるレーザ光を断続させ、ディシュ16内側底面でのエバネッセント場励起を断続して発生させるようにしている。つまり、ディシュ16内側底面でのエバネッセント励起光を断続して発生させることにより、単位時間当たりの励起強度を小さくできるようにしている。ちなみに、スリット241により90%の時間をカットし、10%の時間のみレーザ光を通過させれば、連続した場合に比べて、単位時間当たりの励起強度は1/10になる。
