2. Description of the Related Art For example, a pad for a disc brake of an automobile is prepared by first stirring and mixing various powdery components with a stirrer to form a well-dispersed mixture of friction material raw materials. The mixture is put into a preforming mold and compression-molded, and then the preformed product is subjected to a thermoforming treatment at a predetermined pressure and temperature to form a predetermined friction material shape. On the other hand, by appropriately performing a post-heat treatment or a polishing treatment, a friction material having a desired shape is manufactured.

[0003] Here, constituent components of the mixture of the friction material raw materials include a fiber material, a binder, and various additives. The fibrous material is used as a reinforcing material, and generally, various heat insulating fibrous materials made of metal fibers, inorganic fibers, organic fibers, or the like are used. In addition, a thermosetting resin powder such as a phenol resin is used as the binder. As various additives, for example, there are a friction modifier, a lubricant, an extender (filler) for increasing mechanical strength, and the like. As the friction modifier, ceramic particles, rubber dust, and the like are used. As the filler, fillers such as calcium carbonate and barium sulfate are used.
In such a mixture of the friction material raw materials, the mixing ratio of the constituent components is adjusted according to the physical performance and the like required as the friction material.

However, the ceramic particles 2 having such a large particle size have a friction material 1 during braking operation.
When it is pressed, it penetrates deeply into the rotor surface, causing linear scratches or linear scratches called scoring on the rotor, possibly damaging the rotor. In addition, ceramic materials generally have poor thermal conductivity, and heat generated by sliding friction between the ceramic material and the rotor during braking operation is stored in the large-diameter ceramic particles 2, and the ceramic particles 2 form heat spots. There is a concern that the overheating portion may be called a local overheating portion, thereby deteriorating the braking performance. Further, the various constituent components of the friction material are usually blended in a predetermined weight ratio. However, the large-diameter ceramic particles 2 are smaller per particle than the case where the fine-particle ceramic particles are employed. , The number of particles at a given blending weight decreases. Therefore, the spacing between the ceramic particles 2 dispersed on the friction material is increased, and considering the number of ceramic particles per unit area on the sliding surface, the area where the ceramic particles are not present increases because
There is a problem that it is difficult to make the friction coefficient on the sliding surface uniform.

Therefore, it has been studied to employ ceramic particles having a fine particle diameter as ceramic particles to be blended as a friction modifier. FIG. 4 shows that the particle size is several tens μm.
Friction material 5 using ceramic particles 4 finely divided to m
3 shows the state of the sliding surface 5a. It has been expected that the inconvenience caused by the large-diameter ceramic particles 2 will be solved by adopting the ceramic particles 4 having a reduced particle diameter as described above. It was found that the braking performance was lower than that of the friction material 1 using the ceramic particles 2 having a diameter.

The following could be inferred for this reason.
That is, during the braking operation, a large frictional force (shearing force) is applied to the ceramic particles that bite into the sliding surface of the rotor,
The ceramic particles must be held by the friction material with a bonding strength stronger than the shear force at the time of braking so that the ceramic particles do not fall off the friction material due to the shear force acting during braking. However, as can be seen from FIGS. 3 and 4, the adhesion strength of the friction material holding the ceramic particles depends on the surface area of the portion of the ceramic particles 2 and 4 buried in the friction materials 1 and 5 (see FIGS. 3 and 4). (Shaded area in FIG. 4). In other words, the ceramic particles 4 having a small particle diameter have a smaller contact area with the friction material than the ceramic particles 2 having a large particle diameter, so that the adhesive force with the friction material is weak, and the shearing force acting upon sliding with the rotor is reduced. It was thought that the ball was lost and fell off the surface of the friction material, and did not contribute to the improvement of the friction coefficient, which is the original purpose.

[0008] The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances,
The friction coefficient of the sliding surface can be improved, and the sliding surface does not hurt the mating member against which the sliding surface is pressed. Also, it is possible to prevent a decrease in the braking performance due to the formation of a heat spot, and it is stable. It is an object of the present invention to provide a friction material containing a grinding material capable of maintaining braking performance for a long period of time.

The ceramic particles have an integrated structure in which the surface of the metal powder is composited, and the holding force of the ceramic particles on the friction material is increased by the friction between the metal powder having a larger particle diameter than the ceramic particles and the friction material. Since it is determined by the contact area, even if ceramic particles having a small particle diameter are used as the ceramic particles, the friction material firmly holds the fine ceramic particles. Accordingly, the ceramic particles receive a large frictional force (shearing force) from the mating member during braking.

In addition, due to the finer ceramic particles, the number of ceramic particles to be compounded is doubled as compared with the case where ceramic particles having a larger particle size are used, even if the compounding weight is the same, and the sliding surface of the friction material is increased. The above-mentioned dispersion of the ceramic particles can be made uniform and dense.

In the friction material 20 having the above-described structure, the zirconium silicate 16 having a small particle size is integrated with the copper powder 15 having a large particle size, and the holding force of the zirconium silicate 16 on the friction material 20 is silicate. Even if zirconium silicate 16 having a small particle size is used, the holding force of the ceramic particles on the friction material 20 can be increased. The present inventor has proposed the friction material 2 of the above-described embodiment.
0 and a conventional friction material 1 obtained by mixing zirconium silicate having a large particle diameter as ceramic particles to be mixed with other components as they are, but using an inertial brake braking tester (Dynamo Tester). ), The same friction performance test was performed. As a result, there was no significant difference in the average friction coefficient between the friction material 1 and the friction material 20. Was few. In the case of the conventional friction material 1, in the latter half of the test,
A phenomenon that the friction coefficient fluctuates greatly due to linear scratches generated on the sliding surface of the mating member due to the ceramic particles has occurred. The coefficient of friction was almost constant and stable until the end of the test.

According to the friction material of the present invention, the ceramic particles are combined with the surface of the metal powder and are integrated with the metal powder, and the holding power of the ceramic particles on the friction material is smaller than that of the ceramic particles. It is determined by the contact area between the metal powder having a large diameter and the friction material, and even if ceramic particles having a small particle diameter are used as the ceramic particles, the holding force of the ceramic particles on the friction material can be increased. That is, even if ceramic particles having a small particle diameter are used as the ceramic particles, it is necessary to ensure a sufficient holding force to withstand a large frictional force received from a mating member against which the sliding surface of the friction material is pressed during braking. Can be
Inconveniences such as the ceramic particles falling off from the friction material due to the frictional force received from the mating member during braking do not occur, and the initial purpose of improving the friction coefficient can be sufficiently achieved.

Further, by making the ceramic particles finer, the number of ceramic particles to be compounded is doubled as compared with the case of using ceramic particles having a larger particle size, even if the blending weight is the same, and the sliding surface of the friction material is increased. The dispersion of the ceramic particles can be made uniform and dense, and the friction coefficient on the sliding surface can be made uniform.

Further, at the time of braking, the ceramic particles protruding from the sliding surface of the friction material improve the friction coefficient by biting into the mating member against which the sliding surface of the friction material is pressed. By employing ceramic particles having a small particle size, the bite into the mating member can be reduced, thereby preventing the mating member from generating linear marks or linear scratches called scoring. .

Further, the heat applied to the ceramic particles during braking is widely and quickly radiated into the friction material components around the ceramic composite powder through the metal powder having excellent heat conductivity, so that minute heat is applied. Heat is not locally stored in the ceramic particles, preventing the formation of locally overheated heat spots, preventing the deterioration of braking performance due to the formation of heat spots, and ensuring stable braking performance. It can be maintained for a long time.
