液晶表示装置は、観察方向によって表示の品位が変化する視角依存性を有するため、視野角が狭くなるという欠点を有する。この欠点を改善し、画像品位、画像性能向上などのために、マイクロレンズシートが液晶表示装置の観察面に設けられている。そして、このマイクロレンズシートとして、通常、単位レンズが周期的に配列されているシートが用いられている。しかし、室内照明、日中の屋外等の表示装置周辺の光が観察面で反射することがあり、マイクロレンズシートだけでは、必ずしも高品位の画像が得られるとは言い難い。そこで、周辺光の反射を防止し、より高品位の画像を得るために、マイクロレンズシートと遮光剤としてカーボンブラックを含むマトリックス(以下、ブラックマトリックス)とが組合せて使用されている。

2. Description of the Related Art
Liquid crystal display devices have a drawback of narrow viewing angles due to viewing angle dependency, which means that the display quality changes depending on the viewing direction. To overcome this drawback and improve image quality and image performance , a microlens sheet is provided on the viewing surface of the liquid crystal display device. Typically, this microlens sheet is a sheet in which unit lenses are periodically arranged. However, ambient light from indoor lighting or outdoor sunlight around the display device may be reflected on the viewing surface, and a microlens sheet alone is not necessarily sufficient to obtain a high-quality image. Therefore, to prevent reflection of ambient light and obtain a higher-quality image, a microlens sheet is used in combination with a matrix containing carbon black as a light-blocking agent (hereinafter referred to as a black matrix).
