Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coupling structure for an optical fiber and a ferrule which effectively prevents optical transmission loss from increasing and has superior operation efficiency. SOLUTION: A metallic ferrule has a core hold part 2 in which a coated optical fiber part 8 is fitted and a coating hold part 3 in which a coating part 7 is fitted. The coated optical fiber part 8 is fitted to the core hold part 2 of the ferrule 1 and the part having the coating part 7 is fitted to the coating hold part 3 of the ferrule 1; and the coated optical fiber part 8 is fused to a tapered peripheral surface 2b on the end part side of the core hold part 2 and caulked 3b at the position of the coating hold part 3. Then an adhesive is charged through an inside/outside penetrating adhesive hole 20 formed in the coating hold part 3 at a position closer to the core hold part 2 than the caulking 3b position.

However, according to the conventional connection structure between the optical fiber cord 6 and the ferrule 1, if the ferrule 1 is left for a long time in a high temperature condition, the end face of the core holding portion 2 of the ferrule 1 will not move. As a result, the optical fiber cord 6 shrinks into a depressed state, which causes a problem that optical transmission loss increases.

On the other hand, the contraction rate of the optical fiber cord 6 can be reduced by increasing the amount of the adhesive 11, but if the amount of the adhesive 11 is increased, the adhesive 11 is moved from the tip of the ferrule 1. The adhesive 11 is likely to remain on the ferrule 1 end surface even after the welding or polishing, and the optical fiber core portion 8 and the adhesive 11 are mixed,
On the contrary, there is a disadvantage that the optical transmission loss increases.

Further, if welding or polishing is performed in a state where the adhesive 11 is not dried, the ferrule 1 is processed with the tip thereof facing downward, so that the adhesive 11 flows out from the tip of the ferrule 1 and optical transmission loss increases. There was also a disadvantage of doing so.

As described above, according to the connecting structure and the connecting method of the present embodiment, the optical fiber core 8 is formed on the tapered peripheral surface 2b on the distal end side of the core holding portion 2 of the ferrule 1.
On the other end side of the coating holding section 3, the inner peripheral surface of the coating holding section 3 and the outer peripheral surface of the coating section 7 are in close contact with each other as shown in FIG. When the adhesive 11 is injected from the adhesive injection hole 20,
The outflow of the adhesive 11 from the end of the ferrule 1 can be effectively prevented, and the injection amount of the adhesive 11 can be efficiently increased without causing the adhesive 11 to flow out. The adhesive 11 can be sufficiently filled also in the optical fiber core portion 8 and the coating portion 7, and the holding power of the optical fiber cord 6 in the ferrule 1 is improved. Even in this case, it is possible to effectively prevent the end face of the optical fiber core portion 8 on the tip face side of the ferrule 1 from contracting due to the contraction of the optical fiber cord 6, and effectively prevent an increase in optical transmission loss.

Further, due to the increase in the filling amount of the adhesive 11,
Since the holding force between the optical fiber cord 6 and the ferrule 1 is improved, the crimping 3b force can be set lower, and from this point, an increase in optical transmission loss can be effectively suppressed.

As described above, according to the connecting structure and the connecting method of the optical fiber cord and the ferrule of the present invention,
An inner and outer penetrating adhesive injection hole is formed in the sheath holding portion of the metal ferrule, closer to the core wire holding portion than the caulking position, and the core wire holding portion and the sheath holding portion of the metal ferrule are respectively provided. A fitting step of fitting the portion having the optical fiber core portion and the covering portion, and after the fitting step, a caulking process of caulking the coating holding portion position, and after the caulking process,
A welding step of welding the optical fiber core portion to the inner peripheral surface side of the optical fiber holding portion at the end portion side of the core holding portion, and a mirror finishing process of processing the optical fiber core end portion into a mirror surface after the welding process. After the mirror finishing step, an adhesive injecting step of injecting an adhesive from the adhesive injecting hole, wherein the optical fiber core portion is welded to the ferrule core tip portion side. The other end side of the coating holding portion is caulked to be in a tight contact state, and when the adhesive is injected from the adhesive injection hole, the adhesive can be effectively prevented from flowing out. Can be increased well,
Since the holding power of the optical fiber cord in the ferrule is improved, it is possible to effectively prevent the end face of the optical fiber core portion at the tip side of the ferrule due to contraction of the optical fiber cord, and to effectively prevent an increase in optical transmission loss. There is an advantage.
