(1)揺動を検出する検出手段と、該検出手段により検出された揺動による画像の動きを補正するための補正信号を生成する補正信号生成手段と、前記補正信号に応じて補正動作を行う補正手段と、前記補正信号に応じて前記補正信号生成手段の入力信号に制限をかける制限手段とを有し、前記制限手段は、前記補正信号の変化に応じて所定の特性となるように制限量を決定する制限特性決定手段と、前記決定された制限量に応じて前記補正信号の帯域制限を行う帯域制限手段と、前記帯域制限を行うか否かを前記帯域制限手段への入力信号と前記補正信号とに応じて判断する制限動作判断手段とを含むようにした。 (1) The apparatus comprises a detection means for detecting shaking, a correction signal generation means for generating a correction signal for correcting image movement due to shaking detected by the detection means, a correction means for performing a correction operation in accordance with the correction signal, and a limiting means for limiting an input signal to the correction signal generation means in accordance with the correction signal, wherein the limiting means includes a limiting characteristic determination means for determining a limiting amount so that a predetermined characteristic is obtained in accordance with a change in the correction signal, a band limiting means for limiting the band of the correction signal in accordance with the determined limiting amount, and a limiting operation determination means for determining whether or not to limit the band in accordance with the input signal to the band limiting means and the correction signal.
