Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanner printer for detecting the position of a carriage by using a CCD sensor for reading image data. SOLUTION: A carriage 2 reads a white plate becoming a white label at a present position or a platen 3 becoming a black label as initial color data and, when the read initial color data is data near to the white label, the carriage 2 is moved to the right and, when the carriage 2 approaches the black label, a change point is set to the reference position of the carriage 2. When the initial color data is data near the black label, the carriage 2 is moved to the left and, when the carriage 2 approaches the white label, the change point is set to the reference position of the carriage 2. Therefore, the moving direction and distance of the carriage 2 are controlled from the reference position recognized by the above mentioned operation to read the printing or image data to a medium 6.
