As described the implant has a plurality of ridges 24 with corresponding grooves 26 and has its surface portions 22, 32 roughened by sand blasting. The implant may be substantially rectangular in cross-section and one or more enlarged grooves may be provided in the surface 22 to provide a zone into which the rate of bone and tissue growth is enhanced. The implant has a keyed aperture 18 in which a sleeve 34 is cemented and receives a pin 36 seoured to or formed with a crown 14.
