PURPOSE: Cephems or penams which have partial structures of formula I (where R1 is amino, protected amino, hydroxy or protected hydroxy;R2 is amino, hydroxy or a group which can be converted to amino or hydroxy group; R3 is H, methoxy or a group which can be converted to methoxy group; R8 is H or halogen)are new.
