PURPOSE: To obtain divalent phenols in good yields by oxidizing monovalent phenols with H2O2 in the presence of ketones, characterized by carrying out the said oxidation in the coexistence of at least one compound selected from phosphoric acid, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, etc.
