Abstract

PURPOSE: To vary the display colors so as to provide a color display type liquid crystal display device, which is excellent in design and fashion, by using a polarizing plate, which is divided into regions having different colors, as a polarizing plate to be used in a liquid crystal display element.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal 10 is sandwitched between upper and lower electrode plates 8 and 9, and a polarizing plate 11 is overlaid upon the upper side whereas polarizing plates 12 and 13 and an optical scattering plate 36 are attached to the lower side. Moreover, a back light is arranged thereby to constitute a display device. The polarizing plates 12 and 13 are made to have different colors. In an alternative, two polarizing plates having the same color may be arranged to have their polarizing axes at a right angle.
