Abstract

PURPOSE: To expand the memory area of a seat belt attaching position by engaging the threaded portion of a takeup shaft with a ratchet gear and constructing a locking pawl to operate in relation to the attachment of the seat belt to a passenger.
CONSTITUTION: When a seat belt 5 is pulled out against a spiral spring 4, a solenoid 25 is inoperative at this time to cause a locking pawl 23 not to be engaged with a ratchet gear 20 and a restraining piece 24 to engage the lateral movement of the gear 20. Accordingly, the gear 20 is rotated counterclockwise integrally with a shaft 2. When the tong at the end of the belt is coupled with a buckle after pulling out the belt 5 in predetermined length, a switch is closed to operate the solenoid 25. Thus, the pawl 23 is engaged with the gear 20 to store the belt pulled position. Since the threaded portion 19 and gear 20 are formed in counterclockwise threads at this position, the belt 5 can be pulled out.
