Abstract

The switch 19 is not closed when the temperature is above a preset level during the heating operation and s shut-off valve 11 is kept open just as during the cooling operation to provide a reduced performance. When the heating load is large, that is, the outdoor temperature is below the preset level, the switch 19 is closed and the shut- off valve 11 is also closed to prevent the refrigerant in a compressor 1 from returning to a suction pipe 8, which allows the device to provide large performance.
