Abstract

PURPOSE: To stably detect positions with a simple constitution by receiving the ultrasonic pulses through self-excitation propagating in a magnetostrictive wire and generating the pulses of the width corresponding to the arrival time of the ultrasonic pulses.
CONSTITUTION: The ultrasonic pulses generated by an exciting means 2 according to the oscillation of a self-oscillator OS propagate in a magnetostrictive wire 1 such as of Ni or other and are detected in the receiving means 3 provided to the movable part moving along the wire according to mechanically displacing liquid level displacements, pressures, differential pressures, revolutions, etc. When a flip-flop FF is set by the oscillation output of said oscillator OS and is reset by the receiving detection output of the means 3, the FF outputs the pulses of the width according to the arrival time of the ultrasonic pulses proportional to the displacement positions. Hence, the displacement positions such as by liquid levels, pressures, pressure differences and revolutions are stably detected with the simple constitution without the effect of noise, etc. owing to the mechanical displacements of the movable part.
