Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compund of formula I (R=C1-9 alkyl; Y=halogen, alkylthio, arylthio).
EXAMPLE: 3-Bromo-2-undecanone.
USE: Synthetic intermediate of 1,4-diketone which is a precursor of the dihydrojasmone group used for perfumes. It can be easily transformed to 1,4- diketone via a derivative of 3-sulphenylenone.
PROCESS: Alkylmethyl ketone of formula II is halogenated in an aqueous solvent at room temp-100°C in the presence of an accelerator, e.g. KC10, by irradiation to give a compound of formula I' (X=halogen). The compound obtained is then made to react with thiol in a solvent, e.g. methanol, in the presence of a base to give a compound of formula I'' (R2=alkyl, aryl).
